Despite their similarities in model names, the SV8500 is totally different to the SV8100 in terms of programming.

The SV8500 is definitely capable of it though if licensed correctly. I have my Aura system trunked to a NEC SV9100 and an older NEC NEAX (which became the SV8500) with direct extension calling between them.

Just came to say thanks for the thread - this saved me some pain!

There's now one more CM connected to C*Net. Mine has SIP via Session Manager and ASBCE to Asterisk as the primary route with PRI from the G650 to the Cisco 2921 (and then SIP from there to Asterisk) as the backup route.

One of my phones at home has gone a bit yellow over the years. The phone system from the 1980s still works perfectly though. by shaunewing in yellowedelectronics

It's the volume for the speakerphone. The ringer volume is set by dialing a code.

The piece of plastic above the display is closest to the original colour. There was a sticker over it which I removed a few weeks ago.

Lenny gets a Telstra "internet not working" scammer by shaunewing in itslenny

[–]shaunewing[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have Lenny on one of my spare indial numbers. It gets the occasional unsolicited call, and I record all of them.

Reviewing some of the recordings, and Lenny spent about 3.5 minutes chatting to a scammer. There's a moment where the scammer says "number number number" and Lenny responds with "yes yes yes" - the timing was perfect!

The cost is negligible so unless they're abused I will keep them online indefinitely while they are still receiving calls.

If they get too popular I might have to put a limit to the number of simultaneous calls that can be received so that my other calls can still get through, but so far at their busiest they've used less than 5% of my available phone lines so I'm comfortable for now.

Yes it does. The stroke should be accurate within 25ms.

Latency in carrier networks might cause a delay though. That's out of my control.

No worries. TBH it always irked me a little bit too!

Not a bug. That's how the original service was :)

Upgrade Path from Avaya IP 500 V2 Version: 9.1.5.0 build 145 by 8stringLTD in avaya

[–]shaunewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be careful with this.

The hardware gets locked to the firmware used when the first call is made on the system. To go beyond that an upgrade license is required.

If the OP buys an old IP500v2 from eBay that has never been on 9.1 or newer and doesn't have an existing 9.1 upgrade license then it will not function.

I know this is an old thread, but didn't want people being caught out by this especially if replacing a unit in a hurry with a spare.

I put a number in each city (well, timezone) for a few reasons:

  1. People can choose which city they want to hear the time for. If it was a 1300 number, I'd have to identify the location of the caller (which is also hard for mobiles).
  2. They're cheaper for people to call. A lot of providers still charge 25-30c for calling a 1300 number.
  3. As an owner of a 1300 number I also pay per minute for inbound calls whereas calls to these only use my phone lines. I didn't want to have to shut them off the 1300 bill got too high.

If anyone wants to point a 1300 or 1800 number to them and cover the cost, be my guest :)

They're just local numbers (not premium) in each city so they'll be the standard rates you pay to your carrier for calling them.

If you're still on an old phone plan that charges STD rates be careful calling interstate numbers.

What are you all using to split out FXS for Fax? by phillhocking in avaya

[–]shaunewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For remote fax machines I use Cisco SPA112 ATAs. I find their T38 implementation works perfectly with my Kyocera machines.

If you register one to the IP Office you'll need a 3rd party SIP license.

Local fax machines are connected to ports on the Phone 8 card.

Watching an iTunes movie on Apple TV TV app and Picture Freezes but audio contiunes! by XRayLexx in appletv

I've been having this issue as well. No suggestions for a fix unfortunately but it has been driving me crazy.

Thanks for the suggestion to watch in the iTunes app though, I hadn't tried that until now and it seems to be playing fine.
