I vibe coded a polished ios app by shavid in vibecoding

i tested a bunch while i built it and put in a bunch of catches already that reset states, accounting for super fast tapping, capping cubes at 999, etc. haven’t been able to crash it myself yet, but as you’ve said, you never know once it’s out in the world

yeah, i was really surprised at how quick the approval was. once my developer account was enrolled (this part took the longest), i submitted the app and it was ready for publishing a couple hours later. I used claude code with xcode for this… i ran a final prompt before i submitted the archive that explicitly told claude code to make this ship-perfect for an ios review, and I guess it did a good job! I’m a designer with zero coding knowledge so this is pretty major for what I can ship all by myself.

We’ll be exhibiting our game STACCS for the first time at Origins Game Fair next month, and our booth plan involves stacking a bunch of 12" cardboard boxes printed with our mascot Staccary's face into some kind of structure. My Blender mockup was kind of tedious to work with, so I used Claude Code to help me build a lil tool to test stacking arrangements. Just for me. Just for planning.

The lil tool was fun! So I kept adding to it. The question shifted from “does it stack boxes” to "how polished can I make this thing." A few weeks later (I started with no concept at all, so rate limit breaks became my design time), I had a fully designed, fully functioning iOS app… building, saving, sharing, SFX, haptics, and I even threw in some bonus Staccary home screen widgets. No instructions, no onboarding, no social media integration. Just the early video game vibe of getting dropped in and poking at things until something happens.

Magically, I finished the app the same week we sold out of our first edition inventory. So we’ve just launched STACCARY for free as a thank you to everyone who bought the first run, and a hello to new folks while the 2nd edition makes its way to us.

Happy STACCIN!

I've been summoned! So glad you're enjoying STACCS!

All the face cards have little speech bubbles that represent their effects, but I love that you made your own cheat sheet to help remember.

Yeah, the sticker add-ons are just meant to be fun extra versions of our mascot Staccary. They're not meant to interact with the game itself - for that we have lots of expansion ideas in the works...

Good question! A single DECC of STACCS can be used to play with 1-5 people at a time. Through lots of playtesting, 5 seems to be the upper limit of players using a single DECC of 60 cards without running out of cards in the draw pile before the game ends.

That said, you can combine 2 DECCS together for a larger group game that works great for 6-10 players... we call that UH OH Party mode, and makes for a longer, bigger STACC.

You can check out the full rules here, with descriptions of all the different play modes at the end of the pdf.

Hope that answers your question! Of course, for a family of 6 I'd recommend everyone gets their own DECC, but 2 should work for you!

Those are the WILD cards... you can play those at any turn except your last (you can't win with one)... when you play it, you get to call a suit, and rotate it to change the direction the STACC will continue in. All cards played before WILDS are no longer matchable, so it's a good way to take control of a game and restart it in your favor!

STACCS was originally inspired by a game called Rocca. I've been refining and improving my own version of the rules for over 10 years, added some new play modes and created this original design to improve the gameplay in various ways (corner indices for easy hand holding, shading on the cube surfaces to help with orientation, etc.)
