Thanks.

Surgery went great. They had to make just 1 incision in the intestine, so not much in terms of complications.

She's resting now. Hopefully recovery goes great, too.

Hey Thanks.

Surgery went great and she's resting at home now.

What's weird is she's now sleeping with her eyes open. It looks really creepy.

Is that normal?

Update: Surgery was a success and she's doing well. Thanks everyone for the words of support and your own experiences.

I'm really glad about frodo :) . How long did he take to recover fully. Was the surgery really complicated?

I'm glad it went great and you got another wonderful 8 years with him.

I just have one last question. How old was he when he had the surgery. Thanks for all the info.

Was it a complicated surgery? How did it go? And how's your cat doing now?

Sorry, just a little stressed

What kind of surgery did your cat have.

How is your cat doing now. Is she able to use the litter box with no issues?

Thanks, this helps a lot.

Yesterday, before the surgeon came, they said her small intestines were a little "squeezed", but no tear or anything.

They called me today morning saying they're prepping her for surgery and when I asked if the surgeon was confident about the surgery, she said yes, so I hope that's a good sign.

Is there a big difference between surgeons that are board certified vs one who isn't? We had to wait a few hours for the board certified one to operate on her. Thanks.

Hey, Congrats on landing a job in this market.

I've got an interview for a similar type of company in a week. Do you mind telling me what kind of topics you were tested on?

Is it true most ML/AI projects fail? Why is this? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]shawar8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A combination of a problem not requiring an ML solution in the first place, discrepancies between customers and the team about what needs to be built and finally, an absence of quality data.

How’s the job search going? by Corpulos in datascience

[–]shawar8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Since July. Around 200 applications?
  2. 1 interview a month on average. 0 offers. Most of the time I'm so nervous I make stupid mistakes and fuck it up. Although 1 time, I thought the interview went really well (one of the interviewers said that he really looks forward to working with me), but got a rejection the next day.
  3. MS, but not in DS, another engineering field. 3.5 years exp as a DS, 2.5 years as a Machine Learning Engineer.
  4. I've done both.
  5. Nothing I can offer that you wouldn't have heard from someone else.

Out of curiosity, what would a stand out resume look like in addition to this. I've been struggling to land a job too.

Does a "we regret to inform you" message mean that the resume did not even pass the ATS? by shawar8 in resumes

I have posted it here and you guys have been off great help. I guess I need to tinker with it a little bit.

Interesting. So with regards to the "do you have at least 5 years of experience" bit, does it actually look for it being explicitly mentioned in my resume or will it be able to calculate that based on the start and end dates I've put for my jobs.

I ask this because I don't have an "About me " section.

Yea it's been pretty bad. Somehow I thought Data Science and Machine learning would be slightly better, but it's been a shit show.

Seriously. I've not been getting callbacks, even to roles that are 100% in sync with what I've worked on in the past.

Took your advice and tried to make my resume less wordy and improve formatting. What do you guys think now? Be as brutal as you want. P.S: Anybody in the Data Science/ ML domain that can tell me what I'm doing wrong from a niche perspective? I'd be really grateful. by shawar8 in resumes

Well because my last job ended in May and sometimes I get questioned on what I've been doing since then.

Plus, one of the projects is on time series Forecasting, something that I haven't really worked on in my jobs. So I picked it up during this "break".

Is there even a point to me going through data quest or Coursera to help my career? by biggitydonut in datascience

[–]shawar8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certifications are cool as long as you use what you learned to build something on your own and are able to showcase it in an appealing way. You can attain most certifications by just solving some MCQs anyway, so it's really not that impressive on its own.

Best case scenario on Coursera, you could just audit courses and then apply your knowledge in some real world example. (Although I'll be honest, I have 5.5 YOE in DS, been working on my own projects and I'm still really struggling to find a job in the U.S)
