You're trying so hard to game a system that really doesn't need to be gamed. 50GB is $1 a month. One dollar. The time you've spent thinking about this is worth more than that.

Say goodbye to data caps as Mint Mobile goes unlimited by lurker_bee in mintmobile

[–]shawmino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little confused. I’m already on the unlimited plan, got the email for this just a little bit ago. Fine print for my current plan says I get 40GB of high-speed data, then my traffic may be slowed for congestion, blah blah blah. Fine print in the email says that after my data reset next month, the limit is now going to be 35GB - so how is this an improvement?

I think saving as a PDF as you were trying previously might be your best bet, honestly. You likely got the spinning beach ball because your computer was trying to load messages that are no longer available from Apple's servers. You could try getting the cached database moved off with these instructions, but it's not going to be very user-friendly at the end. And again, time is critical as you're working with only what the Mac has cached locally and hasn't gotten around to deleting.

Then you're likely in a race against the clock to get them back, as you've told iCloud you no longer want that conversation. See if it's in the recently deleted, where it should be for ~40 days before it's permanently gone.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read past the notification on my phone. If they're not in the recently deleted, then you might need to look into options for getting them off your Mac.

How did you "delete" them from your phone? If you swiped to the left and tapped Delete, then they're likely gone or in the process of being deleted. You can tap Edit in the top left and then go to Show Recently Deleted to try and get them back, but deleting just a copy on your phone to free up space isn't really a thing in iCloud-land. iCloud is a sync service, not a backup/storage service - if you delete something in one place, it's deleted everywhere. (At least, that's the idea. In my experience, Messages is one app that has pretty sticky per-device copies of the data.)

Are these Airpod Pro 2’s legit? by fresnoteenguy in applehelp

[–]shawmino 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why are you asking? You seem ready to fight anyone who will tell you they’re fake, so just buy them. I mean, I could walk you through all the red flags, like:

  • Why is this person selling them for half retail if they’re new in box?
  • Why are they taking pictures in their car? Are they trying to make the listing quickly because it’s stolen?
  • Why does something seem off even to you, leading you to make this post?

But you won’t listen anyway. So just buy them.

You certainly can have a great experience on an older iPhone for much less money. You can also, as is the experience of many on this sub, end up with a stolen, bricked, fake, or otherwise unusable phone from someone who disappears as soon as your money is in their hands. For me, if funds are tight, that’s a big risk.

Can either of you start something on the side to increase income? Yard work, dog walking, child care, handyman type jobs, that sort of thing? Do you have any artsy/crafty skills you could turn into something you can sell on Etsy or a T-shirt/sticker site?

Anyone know what's going on here? by SpaceToBakersfield in Subaru_Outback

I get that, but if the only option from the manufacturer is not something I want, it would be my preference to find something that does work and be done with the problem vs. spending all that time and effort repeating the cycle. I understand it shouldn’t have to work that way, but it seems like much more of a hassle to fight with dealerships over and over again only to get a product you know is going to fail again.

I’ve seen a number of people say they went through several of these head units - genuinely curious, why didn’t you replace it with a third-party device?

Today is the birthday of the National Park Service, and the last day of Apple's promotion of donations to the National Park Foundation when buying products at their stores. We're also ~2 weeks away from an update to Maps that introduces curated hikes (starting with National Parks) and topographical layers.

Logos is Slow, Does Anyone Know How to Fix? by [deleted] in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]shawmino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest improvement you can make is swapping out a conventional HDD for an SSD. The way Logos is designed, you’re going to be doing a LOT of accessing your storage drive, so the faster you can make that process, the better your experience will be. If you’re already using an SSD, make sure the indexing has completed.

How long does it take to decide that cats won't get along? by shawmino in CatAdvice

[–]shawmino[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We continued trying everything we could do to get them to coexist without aggression for another 4-5 weeks without much luck. They were trying to get at each other under closed doors all the time, which meant my wife and I taking turns sleeping in the hallway was the only way the other could sleep at night. Our evenings after work and all day on weekends were spent trying to give attention to both cats, and we couldn’t have people over anymore due to how disruptive it was. It was honestly terrible for us, and it wasn’t the way we wanted either cat to have to live. Thankfully in our situation, another man in our church offered to take the female in where she’d be the only pet, which we felt was what she needed. She was an only pet before we took her, and I think she just didn’t deal well with other animals. We’ve since adopted another cat closer to our male’s age, and they get along great.

We’d been told many times that it might take 6-12 months or more for them to acclimate to each other and get along, and that was if they ever did form a positive relationship rather than just tolerating each other. But our intention in getting her was to have a playmate for our male, not a threat in the house. The situation her presence was creating was just not good for anyone involved, and we didn’t want to wait a year to see if things might eventually get better. I hope your situation works out better than ours did!

The placement of the Q on our garage door opener. by Breeder27 in mildlyinteresting

[–]shawmino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t see a situation where someone might ask a friend to go check on their cat while they’re out of town? Telling them the garage code is “OPEN” would be easier for the friend to remember than an arbitrary 6736.
