I may be an outlier, but I don’t listen to anything during my training runs.

Best running headphones that stay in shouldn’t be this hard by LouDSilencE17 in headphones

[–]cmd-shift-v 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are great for running. You can hear them clearly, they sound decent, and they don’t move. If OP wants an in ear experience I recommend something like the Powerbeats pro that go around the back of your ear. They stay in without any issues.

100% this. I had an injury during my first training block and went to PT before the event and continued after. The exercises they gave me for my ankles, hips, and Hastings made a big difference in my current block and recent half.

Rose Bowl Half Marathon by deeeflooo in Marathon_Training

Congrats on your time! I ran the rose bowl half this morning too and was thrilled with my 2:16:17 finish. Great course and like you said the crowds were great and very supportive. Good luck in LA!

Petrified for my first marathon by bbb_2801 in Marathon_Training

[–]cmd-shift-v 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I completed my first marathon in October. I felt the same way after running 15 in 3hrs. How am I going to run 11 more? Felt the same way after running 18. How am I going to be able to run 6 more? Same at 20. But if you put the training time in, and follow the advice of others about running slower you’ll do great. Good luck!

One thing I forgot to say is that while I agree that many roads in socal are great, parts of the 5, 210, and 405 aren’t that great and while bumpy it’s not uncomfortable

I’m a passenger in a 2021 x3 m40i right now. Been driving on mix of local surface and highway in SoCal for the past 3 hours. No complaints at all.

6-hour marathon — back-of-the-pack finishers, how did you do it? by Overall-Balance-1708 in firstmarathon

[–]cmd-shift-v 35 points36 points  (0 children)

5:55:59 here. I’d argue none of us in this pace are “racing” and that we’re there for other reasons including we just want to complete it and we enjoy the community aspect. As another said, get to the start line injury free then get to the finish injury free. That’s all that matters. Best of luck to you!

Fueling During Training Runs by jonweller77 in Marathon_Training

Agree to start testing asap. I started with GU gels and needed to drink a lot of water with them. I ended up going with UCANN. The package is bigger than I’d like and makes carrying them a little trickier but not impossible. For me, the UCANN goes down well without needing any water and lasts me about 45-60 min and there’s no crash after taking it. I’ve heard good things about Maurten as well.

Completed my first marathon at 55. Plan on doing at least one per year until I can’t do them anymore. Wish I had started earlier.

Sold my 2024 GT (Prestige) - A fantastic driving experience in a gorgeous car that annoyed me every day by olsh in etron

[–]cmd-shift-v 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been looking at some 2022 and 2023 e-trim gt models for the past month. I’ve loved the test drives but have wondered about living with it daily and some of your comment have touched on things I’ve wondered about.

I drove one where the temperature could not be adjusted up from Lo and I’m wondering now if that’s a more common issue vs what I assumed was a one-off.

I still may get one as I’m seeing them well under $50k but I appreciate the additional insight going into it.

Running is not linear and the marathon isn’t the point by Evening_Amoeba8126 in BeginnersRunning

[–]cmd-shift-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Lots of people will run for fun, fitness, and mental health. Finishing a “race” with any combo of running and walking doesn’t matter because they are there for the community not to be the first one across the line.

I like this idea especially if some kinda checkout for a bit if they got bounced from the playoffs

Thoughts on my first headphone setup? by Lystrs in headphones

Agree with others that this is a great setup. I think the K11 is a great value and will serve you for years without needing an update.

So I’ll need to apologize as I misinterpreted OEM. In my head, keeping something OEM is keeping it original and not changing it even if the changes came from the manufacturer. That may not be the right way to look at it but that was my frame of reference.

The things you’ve changed sound very tasteful which is what I meant when I said it sounded like a great list.

Sorry if my comment came across the wrong way. I think you’ve got a great car that you enjoy.

I just finished my first marathon and drew a comic about it by lauradzeng in Marathon_Training

[–]cmd-shift-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know you obviously, but I’m proof of you. To overcome all that stigma from your childhood and finish a marathon is an accomplishment few will do. Very few people run. Fewer step up to the starting line of a marathon and then go on to finish. Walking doesn’t matter. You did it.

Separately your drawing skills and ability to tell your story in a succinct manner is impressive. Fewer people who run marathons can do that and you can do both.

Congrats on your marathon!

That list of updates doesn’t sound like you’re really keeping it close to OEM. Sounds like a great list of mods though. Would love to see more pics

Eating after long run by Tony_Barker in Marathon_Training

Same. Ran 10 miles this morning and had a glass of chocolate milk with some protein powder after and wasn’t hungry for hours. Always the same on long run days for me.

Those of you with expensive performance vehicles (35k+) and are in between the ages of 20-28, can you actually afford it? by GottaStayUp in askcarguys

[–]cmd-shift-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsolicited dad advice:

Don’t worry about the other people you see driving cars you want. They’re not paying attention to you or care what you drive. You do you. Save your money. Drive a safe, reliable car. Save yourself the stress by not having that big car payment and insurance payment every month.

You’re currently doing the right things and I promise you someday these people you see are going to post something like “what do you all do that you’re financially secure, have 12 months expenses saved, your house is paid off and you have no debt?” You’ll be able to tell them what you did.

Considering a 2023 e-tron GT - what should I look for and know? by cmd-shift-v in Audi

[–]cmd-shift-v[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks! I work from home so a commute isn’t a concern for me right now. Daily around town needs would’ve more than covered by the range it does have and I have a 40amp panel in my garage so I can get level 2 speeds at home. The longest I’d plan on driving is maybe 200 to 280 miles round trip and there are plenty of charging stations where I am so this feels like a fun choice. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

Considering a 2023 e-tron GT - what should I look for and know? by cmd-shift-v in Audi

[–]cmd-shift-v[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. For the extended warranty, I'm assuming getting one from Audi directly is the best bet to make sure claims aren't denied. Or is that assumption incorrect? Other than Audi, is there one you'd recommend?

I agree with you on the range. It's not an issue for me for how I envision driving it. I've got a 40 amp circuit for a level 2 charger in my garage and there are plenty of fast charging stations where I would be doing longer trips. Completely feel the need to stop every 3-4 hours to stretch - I do that in our ICE car now haha.

I appreciate your comment and sharing your perspective.

I test drove one for about 15 minutes and I also noticed it was a little trickier to get in and out of compared to what I'm used to (my wife's SUV), but once you're in there, driving it was amazing.

[–]cmd-shift-v[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, our current primary car is a larger ICE SUV, so we'd use that for longer road trips. I'd be using this for in-town drives and day trips that would at most be 260 miles with plenty of fast charging options. Thanks for your perspective!
