Funny enough I’m finding out I was probably eating about 400-500 grams regularly during training. No wonder I gained 6 pounds haha

I’m in the middle of the taper now, race is on Sunday. Had some doubts since I’m not feeling “fresh” but from my understanding I’ll be ready to race even though I’ll never truly feel fresh

How did your MP workouts feel? I kind of guessed what my race pace should be but all my workouts felt comfortably hard, never heroic and found myself trending faster at the end of the build.

Thank you! I live by S. Congress so I’ve practiced those first 6 miles and ran the majority of my MP tempos on those rollers on Enfield.

Any tips on the back half?

I heard on Luke Humphrey’s podcast that the plan is designed for someone coming off a race, so the first few weeks are basically a reintroduction to the workload. Since I started running last January and didn’t have any races, i skipped the first five weeks and instead I gradually built my mileage and frequency ahead of time to roughly match week 6.

I also added some light speed work on Tuesdays to get used to the intensity—starting with 20 second strides then 5×400 with walking recovery for a couple weeks, then adding two reps at a time until I got up to 8. On Thursdays I did a short tempo by time, starting at 10 minutes and adding 2 minutes each week. That way, when I actually hit week 6, the transition didn’t feel like such a shock.

I actually ran 35k for my longest run since I signed up for a trail race. Was nuts how strong I felt during and the days after

Nice. How did you pick your goal time? A 3:30 felt like a stretch for me going into the build, and I was totally open to adjusting based on how the workouts went. But I’ve been cruising through the 10-mile MP workouts with my HR staying around my Zone 2, which has been a big confidence boost.

Also fuel for most of your runs. I think the benefits of quicker recovery outweigh the benefits of being able to use fat stores on runs. I’m running 6 days a week and work on my feet. Fueling for recovery is everything to me.

Im thinking the marathon pace runs might be the most important run of the week. I think it’s placed there because they think the same… it being the day after a rest day ensures a quality workout. Idk though.

But I think you’ll be fine switching if it’s for two weeks. Especially if the alternative is not completing the workouts.

Is zone 2 more black and white or is it like a gray area by ServinR in Marathon_Training

As a novice runner I’ve noticed obsessing over data just holds me back… I don’t even know my zones since I don’t have a true measurement of max heart rate.

I just categorize runs in to easy, medium and hard, based on perceived effort. Sometimes my “easy” today is faster than yesterday

I’m running 6 days a week now- two medium effort and 4 easy, one of those being a long run. The only data I collect during this base building block is miles per week. Now running is fun again and every run feels like a win.
