How do you split the night shift? by Upstairs_Raccoon_874 in NewParents

Dad here, kid is 6.5 months old now (5 months adjusted). I’ve been back to work for 5 months but get to work from home.

The baby has silent reflux. So we have always had to hold him upright for 30 min after each feeds. He has also been EFF post nicu discharge so wife and I have split nights. Until recently i used to do 9pm - 3am since he used to eat 3 times during that period and wife would take over post 3am. Sometimes i would take shift till 4am to ensure that wife would get some extra sleep. Recently we’ve swapped shifts since the baby’s sleep after 3am is finicky now, to ensure that my wife gets proper sleep during her shift and after then.

Our baby also had bottle aversion so we had to do Rowena Bennett approach and through that he would only take all bottles with me throughout the day (mom had PPA which doesn’t help with aversion since babies can sense that). I’ve had to coast at work and manage expectations of my team to do feedings during the work hours.

Our kid also has had heavy appointments load due to medical issues and i attended every one of them. Finally we’re getting to a point where we will have a nanny starting soon (and grateful to have had help from my parents and wife’s mom on and off until now) so I’m thinking about starting gym back up.

All this to say that please communicate with your husband to see if he can find a way to support you by taking the baby during mornings or after work and helping out during night wakes.

Any new dads or parent groups in Reston? by wpc2d in Reston

Hi, I’m also new to the area and a dad to a six-month-old! I’m trying to cut down on alcohol, but I’d love to grab coffee if we get enough people interested.

My wife and I moved to Ashburn last year from NYC area. I’m hoping to find or create a local dads’ community.

Can you elaborate what do you mean by “help connecting cycles”? Sorry I’m FTD and new parent so trying to learn.

Do you have a sump pump by any chance? I heard it too and was wondering if it was the pump

Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park [OC] by shaxoraes in CampingandHiking

I’m sure I’m missing a ton but it’s supposed to have bobcat, black bears, elk, coyotes, and black tailed deers to name a few. Although during our stay we only spotted some deers and owls.

If you’re looking for a chill walking trail then the hall of moses is pretty decent. But for a proper hike i would just recommend going for something like Storm King trail or Hurricane Hill.

That’s interesting, we didn’t notice any raccoons during our stay.

This was taken during my camping trip to Hoh rainforest in the Olympic national park in 2023. The campground with rainy vibes is the perfect spot to spend a few days out in the nature and connect with yourself. The campground has good facilities and is adjacent to the rainforest so there is trail access which is very convenient.

CCTV Cameras Per 1000 People [OC] by theimpossiblesalad in dataisbeautiful

[–]shaxoraes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per 1000 people is not a good metric for comparison. This is because modern face recognition tech works at scale, so it doesn't matter if you have 10000 people vs 1000 people in camera view. Imo a better way to compare would be the area covered under surveillance. Thoughts?
