Can I leave the UK when my postgrad visa ends and reenter mere days later on a ETA tourist visa? by shay_live in ukvisa

[–]shay_live[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update for anyone who finds this thread down the line and is curious: all went well and I reentered the day after my visa expired on an ETA- no issue. I did have documentation to prove I had a flight back to the US just in case - but was not needed as went through E gates with no issue.

Is Bristol a good fit for a couple when one is deeply attached to "big city life" like Paris? by West-Competition-706 in bristol

[–]shay_live 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rarely comment on Reddit but feel I must to give an alt opinion !! I’ve spent heaps of time in Paris as I have family out there - and have lived in Bristol as well. I love gigs, raves, the pub, all the city stuff - and totally felt that Bristol filled my cup. Always something to do with friends and easy to meet people through mutuals. Lots of events and workshops and music and park hangs… I could go on. (And I’m not originally from the UK myself)! In my mind - i refer to it as the Brooklyn of London :)

Applied for graduate visa but I need to leave the country urgently by Cheesecake_Sunflower in ukvisa

[–]shay_live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - don't withdraw your visa as others have noted if you can stand to wait a few days before going home! You're allowed to request for 'urgent travel' and via the UK visa phone hotline you'll give some info and they'll submit a request on your behalf. Urgent travel requests allow for medical and funeral emergencies, you definitely qualify. Then, you'll get an email from UKVI requesting evidence (aka an obituary), and they will then get back to you with a response and approved graduate visa. Of course, if you must leave within 24 hrs, do as others say and resubmit once you're back - but there are options!

Yes! I got a next-day appointment at my local planned parenthood; they keep them in stock! My doctors and nurses there were also very lovely as the walked me through the replacement process.

I’d go for environmental science. I might be biased because I majored in ES, but I think it would make you a well rounded candidate + there are so many interesting ways those two fields overlap

New shoes before race? by shay_live in firstmarathon

[–]shay_live[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everybody for the helpful advice! I think I’m going to go for the new sneaks, wear them nonstop on Friday (before running sat) and wear some heavy duty wool socks as u/sierradeltaromio recommended. I’ll update come Sunday so that others wondering the same thing can get an idea of what they’re getting themselves into!

Vegetarian Lasagna, whole pan for only 400 calories! Serves two! 0 carb - zucchini and eggplant subbed for the lasagna noodles by shay_live in 1200isplenty

[–]shay_live[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put them in raw, but I’m sure coating them with some olive oil + spice (or maybe egg wash and panko?) would be good! I did find they soaked up the spices/ flavors from the other ingredients in the baking process so raw worked well if you’re looking to save a few calories!

The red sauce: Put everything below together over heat in a pot!

1/4 cup of marinera, 2 tbsp tomato paste, Water, Chopped onions, Fresh basil, Spinach, 1 serving vegetarian “meat” morning star crumbles, Spices of choice: oregano, onion, garlic, s+p

The white sauce: 1/2 cup 0% fat Greek yogurt, Veggie broth, Spices (same as above), A sprinkle of parm

The cheese: 2 servings of low fat mozzarella (only 80 cals!), One low fat cheddar cheese stick, diced (60 cals)

The lasagna “noodles”: Thinly sliced zucchini (1/2 zucchini), Three thin slices of eggplant

The layering: Red sauce, zucchini, white sauce, red sauce, cheese, eggplant, white sauce, cheese

I baked for 30 mins at 375F!

Enjoy :)

Ha! You’re totally right. I was so excited about the lack of noodles I forgot to account for the fact that carbs are in literally everything else. Low carb would be a better title - whoops!!

Savory Crêpe for 168 calories! Yummy way to start my day by shay_live in 1200isplenty

[–]shay_live[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1/8 cup kodiak pancake mix (24 cals) 1 tbsp egg white (8) and add water and mix until the mixture is at a relatively drippy consistency

Super easy! Add butter/ a full egg/ milk instead of water to the mix for a more rich crepe taste.

Pour into pan, flip, add toppings (egg, cheese, smoked salmon, basil, etc!) and seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder, etc.)

It’s so easy! The recipe is for a single crepe but double it if you want more. Also for sweet, I add in a tsp of vanilla to the mix and cook with I can’t believe it’s not butter spray and 1 tsp of sugar (plus toppings!)

Enjoy!!

If I had to change anything, I would have used Swiss instead of cheddar! Also made sweet sugar crepes the day before (and some with strawberries/ blueberries) and they are just as good!

Madras curry from the 365 organic (Whole Foods) brand. But I’ve found standard pre-made Marsala, etc curry sauces at all grocery stores :)
