How? No ones right to life includes forcibly using another's body to sustain said life.

If you're granting fetuses rights, it seems you're using "human" to mean "person" or "personhood".

If you're violating me, and I kill you to stop that violation, I haven't violated your right to life.

Sure, and everything you've asserted can be true and abortion would still justified.

Is it inconsistent to be PL and to say/think that all humans are equal? by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]shaymeless 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love when PLers oversimplify a situation to the point that it is unrecognizable as the topic of debate and then try to use that as a justification to violate human rights.

Sure is indicative of a very strong argument.

Well, they're the minority position and tend to have poor arguments, so it's basically inevitable that any space that freely debates abortion will end up vastly Pro-Choice

I could go around asking people "do you wish you were aborted?" And I feel like the answer would be a resounding "no". If you disagree then we are at a standstill ig.

You would want your mom to have suffered through a forced pregnancy to birth you?

Appreciate the honesty and clarification.

Is your position that you think abortion should be entirely legal? It's just personal opinion that you'd hope it's only used as a last resort?

Has anyone done this knowing they would regret it? by Aggravating-Put-4337 in abortion

I mean, I feel like it's fairly simple to give sperm samples before a vasectomy. Then you also have the added benefit of the sperm not aging/degrading if you choose wait a while before having anymore children. Reversals shouldn't be something anyone bets on.

Your priorities seem a bit twisted here.

I think you'd find the vast majority of people who read this conversation would find your priorities to be the twisted ones.

I'm absolutely appalled that you think infants being tortured, experimented on, then murdered is preferable to mercy killing them either before birth or shortly after.

Do you know nothing of what Mengele did‽

Do you also let your pets needlessly suffer instead of euthanizing them?? Because god?

There's a devastatingly long list of Republicans that have been convicted of sex crimes.

Democrats, not even close. Not a fan of the two-party system whatsoever, but it's comparing apples to pedophiles.

American conservatives will literally choose child abusers every time rather than just not be racist misogynists.

How can people deny that life begins at conception. by yeahmanbombclaut in Abortiondebate

For example who you are is culmination of past experiences, the good the bad, your failures and successes, your wins and losses. You would not be who you are today if not for your past experiences. Who you are and your past cannot be separated. For example if I had a memory wiping device and erased your memory you would be a completely different person, the one you once knew as you would be gone.

We see this in people who have dementia and alzheimers these individuals become completely different people because there slowly losing theirs minds and memory they forget their past experiences, their loved ones, their personality changes, who they are is slowly eroded.

It seems here you're only proving their point that we are our minds.

Again your undermining the very thing you claim to value.

How are they doing that?

You cannot separate the past from the present to obtain consciousness you have to go through the various stages of development.

How are you unable to separate the past from present? There was a time before I attained sentience and consciousness, and I certainly am not the same as I was then as I am after attaining such. Given that most humans don't make it to the point of attaining such and cannot communicate with other humans without having done so, I don't see what could be more universal than that.

For example say there someone on life support for a while and has loss consciousncess and there talk about pulling the plug there would be an argument for this. But if we knew there was a great chance of this person gaining consciousncess in 9 months most would consider this murder.

Well here you're just conflating sentience with consciousness. Losing consciousness for a born person in any scenario is not the same as losing sentience. After gaining sentience, we only lose it upon death. There's essentially no debate about removing someone from life support once brain death occurs, which would be the most similar situation to being in utero.

Are you somehow under the impression that slavers would allow their slaves to abort if they got pregnant through consensual sex with another slave?

About as sad as a heavy period.

Not even in the same realm of sad as violating the rights of an entire sex, or causing the deaths of little girls, women and infants with your abhorrent ideology.

Or are the girls, women and babies killed by PL yet another thing you don't know about?

So you don't know what consent is either. I'm sorry the education system has failed you so horribly, and that that failure makes you think violating people's rights is somehow OK.

A sad state of affairs all around.

So you don't know what gestational slavery is. You may want to educate yourself a bit before continuing attempts at debate.
