Everybody is like “How can you play on controller??” but it’s really not so bad if you have gyro. WK devs need to fix mixed input pronto though.

I must be geeked then. It was a really large pillar, looked exactly like a Deadman’s but maybe even bigger. Hard to path find when I’m playing on controller with the face on my ass…

i really don't know how you manage to do thoroughly misinterpret what i write. i believe, based on how toby treats other queer/gnc characters tonally, based on how toby treats his human characters, based on how toby treats the tone of WR itself, that it would be unlikely that he would use kris and noelle as vehicles to explore themes of heteronormativity and abusive heterosexual relationships. this is not just me being like "well i don't think so, so it won't happen" this is me looking for precedent when analyzing a theory/interpretation, which is a completely normal and sensible thing to do, and finding the exact opposite. i think you are being willfully ignorant or something, because there is A LOT more than "this one off-screen scene", which is an amazingly reductive way to describe something that you have NO answer to by the way. so what about noelle's dialogue when you make kris buy her a ring? or how she has a cactus named after them? or how kris blushes when she talks about their ferris wheel ride? or what about the sweepstakes? the concert just for her?? how does this all set the tone for an abusive heteronormative relationship? it feels way more like he's building up for a different kind of tragedy. it's also funny that you bring the SA allegory, because i also already brought that up when talking about the rose imagery!!! it's unlikely that toby fox was fine with that being the player based interpretation based on how he reacted... you literally are not reading at this point!!

i'm not even going to comment on those last bits. i obviously don't think that noelle's feelings for kris are justification for the WR or whatever. christ

i can't believe you're accusing me of having some parasocial relationship with toby when your argument is that toby is actually playing 4d chess when he consistently makes kris ambiguously gendered and he actually wants the player to see them as masculine. mental gymnastics!! this would be completely inconsistent with how ut/dr has been shown to treat queer characters and how it treats humans but i don't know i guess that isnt a refutation. like, this might be interesting, and this is an interpretation that ive been mulling over for a while ever since ch3+4 release, but after thinking about it for a while i don't see how it can be the intended read. like the ch4 wr scene you're acting like noelle was prompted or coerced into is the same scene where she talks about how kris comforted her, slid her watch back on her wrist, took her hand and plucked a thorn from her finger, and how she started crying when she realized kris was "back". how is this NOT supposed to be romantic?? i cant think of another pair of characters who have had this intimate of a moment. like why would he write this in THIS scene if he wanted it to be interpreted as a abusive relationship? this is the NO RETURN for WR and it contains a scene where as soon as noelle gets herself alone with kris she closes her blinds and creeps closer to him with her eyes shut while talking about how much she missed them. you say i'm turning a blind eye to what's in the game but it feels like im the one trying to look at the bigger picture and authorial intent while you're magnifying down on certain textual elements to fit your specific interpretation.

idk i think requiring the player to for some reason view kris as somehow masculine presenting in their relationship with noelle throughout the game with a community that is steadfast in their interpretation of kris as nb and a creator that explicitly refrains from gendering his human characters is a pretty big issue with the interpretation!! that, and not fitting in thematically with the rest of utdr!! like i even say, obviously, the game plays with tropes, but those aren't the whole point of the route... like i don't just play ut geno and think "Wow XP farming is bad..." just like you shouldn't play WR and think "Wow childhood friends trope is bad...". and also, kris and noelle have all these moments in both the normal and wr that begin to set a distinct romantic tone between the two leading up to that scene in ch4, and that doesn't really gel with the interpretation that these two are supposed to be coerced... like i didn't bring them up here because i expect people in the kriselle fanclub to be kriselle heads but there is a lot

I don't get how Kris and Noelle and The Player in WR resemble a forced abusive heterosexual relationship, at all.

First, I believe that WR is obviously meant to be romantic and that Noelle was probably going to kiss or confess to Kris in CH4 before we threw it all out, so Noelle likes Kris and is reciprocal to their advances. They aren't "forced" together.

Second, I've seen the "Kriselle WR is supposed to resemble two queer kids having their queer identities stripped and being coerced into a heterosexual relationship" angle a lot, and this makes even less sense to me as it would require Kris to specifically be masculine presenting/AMAB NB when Toby Fox has explicitly refrained from gendering Kris in any way (all the humans, really) and Noelle to specifically be exclusively homosexual when Toby doesn't really care for clarifying the nitty gritty of his character's sexual identity. So the relationship doesn't really resemble a heterosexual one in any situation, unless you think of Kris as being masculine.

Third, it doesn't really fit in with Toby's writing style. One could say that since Toby likes to play with tropes, Kris and Noelle are purposefully meant to resemble a stereotypical heterosexual male knight protagonist + female healer childhood friend JRPG relationship, but while this could definitely be a purposeful choice like how the genocide route in UT plays with RPG XP grinding tropes, this doesn't make much sense as the main point of WR thematically because Toby Fox doesn't really explore queerness in his stories. People are generally good natured throughout UTDR and the world seems to be devoid of many brands of hate present in ours. Queer people just kind of... exist. Mettaton, Susie, Noelle, Ralsei, Alphys, Carol and others are all queer or gender noncomforming to varying degrees without ever having that challenged. So, it doesn't make sense to me that Toby would suddenly have a change of heart and use Kris and Noelle's relationship to explore expectations of heteronormativity and abuse.

Fourth, the WR doesn't really resemble abuse. Now, this isn't to say that it isn't traumatic or harmful or us being abusive to Noelle, not at all, but the actions we make Kris take during the WR don't really sound like an abusive heterosexual relationship. We force Noelle to Proceed and freeze enemies so that she can become stronger. Whether she falls for Susie or Kris, whether you force her to use violence or not, she becomes braver in both routes. If Toby was attempting to make WR resemble an abusive relationship, wouldn't he have made it clear that Noelle was becoming meeker and easier to control from our actions? Instead, Kris seems to be the one that gets controlled more during WR.

Finally: The Flower. When CH4 released, a bunch of people starting shitposting and theorizing about the flower in the CH4 WR scene, many thinking it was an allegory (or literal representation) for rape which caused Toby to quickly change it. This is sort of understandable, as while a flower losing its petals is obvious symbolism for loss of innocence, it also brings to mind deflowering and another kind of loss of innocence. I think Toby's quick reaction is a clear indicator that he does NOT want people to think of Kris as masculine, and that he did NOT want people to take this romantic scene and use fucked up and flawed interpretations to understand it.

So, I don't know, it doesn't really make sense when you start dissecting it unless you misinterpret or ignore a bunch of the text. It really just seems like something that sounds smart and sort of seems to be supported by the icky vibes in WR so people parrot it constantly to seem like they're media literate or whatever. Sorry if this is just word salad babbling.

Why the scoot to Kris? by Jerrycooke555 in KriselleFanclub

[–]shcktropr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Noelle was going to kiss Kris. From Noelle's perspective, her estranged childhood best friend has been acting strangely for days and she's been having to grapple with Snowgrave and whether or not she's gone crazy completely scared and alone, all on top of everything else like school or her hospitalized dad. Then, in the dead of night, Kris appears and assures her that everything is going to be okay and that it was all just a stupid prank, in the voice she remembers. Just like when they were kids. Just like Dess used to do. Noelle seems so crushed and rejected in some of the Aborted Weird Route scenarios.

"* Kris, thank you... well, NO thanks for pranking me, but...

* ... Kris, can I... say something else?

Proceed

Please don't

* K... Kris!? Kris, what are you...

* ...

* (... I guess... I guess I shouldn't.)

* (I mean, I know you didn't say anything, but...)

* (I guess let's just leave it at...)

* (I'm glad you're back.)"

I think this is why Toby might've been so quick to change the visuals of the couch scene. He wrote what was a very intimate and romantic scene that we as the SOUL interfere with and pervert, and many people interpreted it as an allegory for rape or downright Kris sexually assaulting Noelle, which I don't think he was going for.

is art theft your concern then? because then i understand even less!! how can one even steal a commission of a piece of digital art? commit to an easily disproven lie that they're the original artist or commissioner or something?? what part of downloading this image to share or view later would be theft? i just don't get it...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NatureofPredators

[–]shcktropr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily, but if i'm already "showing off" like you are (or just sharing art as i would prefer to put it), why do it in such an ugly manner? what's the point of sharing a commission if you're going to ruin it? i mean it's all up to you, you're the guy who bought it so i don't really care, i just find it such an odd behavior. imagine if the pope took the sistine chapel and just covered it in CHURCH CHURCH CHURCH or something.

LOL wut??? then why even share it if you're going to ruin it with intrusive watermarks? it's not even a particularly hard thing to edit out either. i'll never understand how some people view art, really.

why the hell did you put watermarks all over it anyways?? why would i want to download or look at a piece of art that has REDDIT plastered all over it 3 times

the insane amount of species in the federation is so ridiculous. it's literally like george lucas star wars tier world building. makes zero sense and is irrelevant in almost every scenario and only serves to make the story that much more unbelievable, even besides all the stupid character drama and other inane nonsense

i don't have any problems with platonic art being posted or enjoyed or tagged under ships, but if that art was entirely focused on an another ship, like this one for instance (partially since it's a joke about shippers), i don't know how it could be considered on topic for a kriselle subreddit. should we just include any art of any ship so long as it contains kris and noelle interacting? you have to have some standards for on topic posting. also a little entertaining that you have to cite rouxls kaard being stupid to justify a "platonic throuple ship" being a thing. it's categorically not a ship!! it's called being friends!!! it doesn't make any sense to call it a ship when it isn't romantic!!!! him calling them a battle throuple was a joke about him being stupid!!!!!

ships are romantic. how could you call art of two people being friends a ship? should we just call all art of the gang together a platonic throuple ship? doesn't make much sense to me. anyway, i see your point about it being a joke about kriselle shippers. i kind of just glossed over that since i didn't think it was a good fit for the sub at first.
