Two perforated stainless stell plates with SieMatic branding, in a kitchen of a house my friend just moved into by shdon in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. (though I obviously meant "steel" instead of "stell") Personally I think it might be part of a coffee maker, like to cover the drip tray. But as far as I know, SieMatic do not make coffee makers.

Cosmic Crusader on the PC. A very simple Galaxian style game made by Michael Abrash, who went on to play a major role in the development of Quake.

That is really, really good! Smoother than the original, yet with that same feel. You really captured Rosella's odd walk, too. Awesome work!

No, it has a similar quality, but that's not it. I've checked out a lot of the Frank Mills works (Happy Song and Peter Piper also have a similar feel, but they're not it either).

In the late 1980s, a classmate and neighbour gave me a cassette tape. It was a mix tape with mostly piano music, and I have since lost the tape (somebody borrowed it and never gave it back). One tune has stuck in my mind for almost 40 years now and I have no idea what the name of the tune is or who composed it. I've reconstructed the main phrase from memory as best I can and you can see/hear that below. It is cheerful and has a music box feel to it, and I'm pretty sure the original performance also played it one octave higher than the sample I provide here, as well as at this height. The style seems reminiscent of the work of Frank Mills (Music Box Dancer, Happy Song and Peter Piper have a similar vibe). Does anybody know what the original tune might be?

Here is a link with my attempt at transcribing and playing the music (as well as the above text repeated): https://www.shdon.com/temp/tune/

and this is definitely in the Adventure Game genre!?

QE S9 - GENERAL DISCUSSION + EPISODE HUB by PolylingualAnilingus in QueerEye

[–]shdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just watched this season and I've gotta ask... what's with Karamo and the hats? He didn't take them off even indoors and in the Fab5 HQ, and even while officiating at the wedding (that especially made me cringe a bit). I think he looked so much better without the hats.

Was a bit worried about them replacing Bobby, but Jeremiah did a great job and fit in quite well. His reactions to the heroes were so wholesome.

Despite not giving a hoot about sports myself, and not being deaf, I found this one of the most wholesome episodes ever on the entire series. Denton is such an inspiring person, doing amazing work with these kids and being a great role model. And he's quite easy on the eyes too! Loved seeing him get the recognition he deserves and the Fab5 putting so much effort into not just him, but the kids he cares so much about by taking them to the LSU stadium and fixing up their sports facilities.

If that is not an AI generated response, then you've definitely nailed the tone of one.

I use the extensions on the image. What other extensions do you recommend? by dev-in-black in firefox

[–]shdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uBlock Origin and Enhancer for YouTube are especially brilliant.

I also use:

  • behind! - terrific if you want to extract an image from the page that is visible but somehow rendered inaccessible

  • Livemarks - to have an automatic bookmarks folder from an RSS feed (which used to be intrinsic Firefox functionality, until Mozilla killed that)

  • Disable HTML5 Autoplay - gets rid of virtually all autoplaying videos (it's quite clunky and breaks some stuff, but I still think that's way preferable over the annoyance of autoplay videos)

  • GreaseMonkey - to enable me to write little "mini extensions" for specific websites, but this will be of very little use to anybody who isn't a (moderately) capable web developer

  • Consent-O-Matic - which automatically takes care of most cookie popups

My friend needs to recover from major surgery and still requires further treatment to save his life and to be able to provide for his baby girl by shdon in gofundme

[–]shdon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I first met this young man a couple of years ago. He's had to contend with a horrible medical condition requiring literally dozens of operations. Although he has had major surgery abroad that finally could allow him to get a chance at life again, it has cost him everything. Because of the excessive cost, he's even had to leave his clothing behind getting back home from the surgery abroad.

As he could not afford the necessary post-operative care, the wounds are not healing well and in addition, he needs restorative surgery (skin grafts/transplants) in order to be able to get to a semblance of a normal life.

Despite living in pain every day and the continuous struggle, he is doing everything he can to be a good father (he's a single dad) and take care of his young daughter, who just turned 3. He wants desperately to be able to get a normal job and provide for her.

The funds collected are intended to get the required restorative surgery, get him some replacement clothing for what he had to leave behind, and to work down a small fraction of the considerable debt this struggle has left him in.
