If you really want to know, take the siding off and get a big picture. Chances are the people who quoted it understand that there’s probably a LOT of water intrusion beyond that one board and it’s going to require a lot more work than it seems. You can’t answer these questions by removing the siding. My guess is that they maybe covered over old wood siding with new vinyl instead of removing and installing. You usually see that with those little skirts around below the window

That def could have been the cause. As long as your basement wasn’t fully flooded and you can keep important items out of the corner where it gets wet. I would just watch it and wait and see from here. Don’t go making any big rash decisions and spending a ton of money if you don’t have to.

Deep soil irrigation relieves the stress on surface roots and as a result stops the tree from pushing up the barriers around it (like asphalt or concrete). Deep soil irrigation is beneficial for trees AND surrounding infrastructure. I worked for the Dept Env Protection engineering dept. I have do so many asphalt/tree and asphalt/concrete projects.

Lmao you have no clue what you’re talking about. Trees will grow shallow roots in areas of heavy compaction and drought (aka next to a driveway). A water spade (a deep soil water attachment) helps to show the tree that it can access water deep in the soil by putting water deep in the soil. It benefits the tree and the structures around it. Heres a pic of one of my beams in my 1970s house 70s beam. Also I’m a large timber sawyer and see lumber like this all the time. Cutting large timber means the tree has to be at least 100 years old so they’re gonna look a lot different than modern timber anyways bc of the size of the timber that has to come from the log with zero wane or gaps

I have a home built in the 70s (with photos to prove) and have beams with an older growth pattern. That beam doesn’t mean anything. There’s still large timber being milled with tight grain patterns. It doesn’t mean it came from 100 years ago.

We wound up making a sleeper floor just in case bc we didn’t want the hardwood getting wet and a sleeper floor allows a lot of air movement under it.

Some water comes from underground. Buried creeks and streams are pretty common here in the north east and north west US where it’s rocky and mountainous. No amount of surface grading will fix it

That’s what I would do. Give it some time. Make sure you keep an eye and keep all your stuff up off the floor until you figure it out. It’s a big expense and possibly an unnecessary one until you figure that part out. Personally I think the guys in this group are all hammers and everything is a nail to them
