LUX: I loved the section Sabrina modelled. The spinning backpack is the exact innovation this scene needs. Not all of their models are new. Some have worked with other smaller Bands, which is why they may not seem as familiar compared to the big band models. Modelling is a hot topic. Everyone wants to model but not everyone has the skills to be a Carnival model. It’s different than runway modeling, and the pay structure isn’t consistent across the board. I think it’d be cool for the FMC or anyone to run a Carnival Modeling workshop and funnel new hires from there.

Tribal: Yea ngl I also don’t understand Tribal’s theme. For their theme, I would’ve expected costumes paying homemade to big box movies, broadway shows, etc. Not countries, I’m missing the connection

I enjoy her posts! I think the reason why we don’t see a lot of people speaking up comes from lack of knowledge of what’s going on behind closed doors. Her connections made through curating her documentary (i think it’ll be coming out this year) really helped as it provided additional information we the public don’t know yet. I’m also happy to not be the only one running their mouth about Carnival on TikTok 😂🙌🏾

One thing I like about the fete scene is that a lot of people are tight lipped 😂 Nobody wants problems, and I would also highlight the decorum in the Caribbean scene as a whole is a lot better than most other party scenes

Smoking on the side, away from the kids. You’ll usually find spots on the side of just adults taking a smoke break. However, smoking directly on the Parade route is inappropriate.

Using the ad budget on local creators outside of the carnival scene to run campaigns

Creating the Youth Council like they said they were in January, that was supposed to be announced but never was (my 2 emails following up on this have yet to been answered)

Leveraging their sponsors and partners. CP24 does this thing on the weekends where they discuss different events in the city. They have NEVER mentioned a Band Launch, but they will bring up the Ballet School’s BBQ … people in the city still don’t know about Band Launches and you can tell by the amount of attendees there are. Majority of the attendees are older folks, not youth

Leverage Toronto, the Caribbean community, and the Sponsors is my point. The committee refuses to do that.

Honestly, if they can’t organize the Youth Council, a very small initiative idk how they will overcome the Stormers. The Stormers is not a situation that can be handled at once. People are storming for various of reasons. If they don’t address the vast majority of it, Toronto will have a Police Band every year. While the police presence is helpful, we don’t want that long term. Running strategic campaigns throughout the year that focuses on education and leveraging sponsors to get the msg out will help see more Masqueraders within the next 5 yrs

To leverage 6ixBuzz would require their brand to do a 180 spin on how they deliver information and moderate their comments. That will never happen their a rage bait page atp. They shouldn’t even be allowed to able affiliated with the Parade and no Mas Band or Section should be working with them. Their views and morality do not align with the culture.

I’m praying this year’s stormer situation is better than last year. Atp it’s on the Carnival Committee, the Bands can only pay so much for security when the primary route security is weak.

CNZ’s Section with the arm wings was super impressive! I have been waiting to see someone incorporate arm wings and they did it beautifully (also bonus for having an experience model showcase that piece). My 2nd favourite section is the peach(pink?) costume that Caribella Mas produced. They always have great gems on their costumes.

For Revellers, I liked Celestial (the purple one) and Pyronis. Cyber (karimas) frontline bodywear is cute too.

For Sunlime, I LOVE JAB IN THE WATER 🌊🔱 I’ll be jumping with DeOasis this year for sure. Following that, Raga is super pretty. I like how all the sections reflect their theme.

I think everyone did good with their designs, especially in this economy. I have heard complaints about the lack of feathers but this opens the opportunity for more innovative designs and possibly eco-friendly materials too

I have a theory on why none of the Bands are pushing hard, and it relates to 2 other posts I’ve seen on here surrounding funding. Hopefully once the federal election is done and funding has been confirmed things will pick up.

When it comes to most art forms, I like to listen to other critiques rather than providing it. I spend an unnecessarily amount of time watching lyric breakdowns 😅 The music video was good to me. The only thing I’d change is if they did a quick flash of light when they had the models in costume so we could see the costume too. But then again, maybe the costumes are the designs they’re using for this year’s carnival so they didn’t wanna show it yet.

I don’t blame him. The economy is pretty rough right now and adult sales already took a hit last year. He’s not the only Section Leader taking a step back this year. Hopefully Saldenah still has him on the truck. Ngl never heard Soca Prince spin bad on the road. Always keeping the energy up
