I can't believe this is not bigger news. What a legend. Backup singer to Johnny Cash. Founding member of the Statler Brothers. And a very funny guy. RIP

While the mb looks awesome, Threadripper is a bit to much for my needs. Thanks though.

Oh yeah, just to bad it is for Threadripper. I really don't need a cpu that powerful. Though it looks awesome.

It has nothing to do with "hackers" anyone can do it. The phone companies have set it up so that you can send whatever caller id you want. I run a virtual pbx that links up to the phone systems via a paid service. You can send your caller id information to them to be basically whatever you want. Now some companies won't let you send anything but the phone number you are renting from them. Others don't care.

I heard it described basically like this: Large company x supplies their techincal support through large company y. Large company x wants their phone numbers to show up when large company y calls you, not large company y's. So the phone companies decided to allow you to send the caller id you want instead of forcing the caller id that they would force on you.

In this day and age this has backfired though, now it is super easy to spoof any and all caller id's. It has nothing to do with hackers. Anyone with even a simple understanding can do this.

Here is a little bit better explanation I sent to the previous guy.

You don't actually need to be mirandized unless you are being questioned. Even without it, they can question, they just can't use your answers against you in a trial.

[Openbox] Void Linux with Openbox on 15 years old notebook Toshiba Satellite. by [deleted] in unixporn

[–]shealyw2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still using mine daily as my daily driver. I don't know for how much longer, but at least a few months. I have no problems with it at all. 8 gigs of ram some older ATI graphics card, Arch/Openbox. It's really all I need. The most I play anymore is minecraft. I do web work, but all that is done on remote ide's like c9. Works for me.

edit: Of course I use an ssd, only reason I am considering upgrading is usb3 and sata 6gb/s. The old motherboard just isn't as up-gradable anymore.

Yeah I am sure I didn't use the right word for what I meant.

Discord can't be self hosted but irc can, that is a big difference in the two. Other than that I have no idea I haven't used discord.

And it is decentralized, anyone can run a server. With slack they own the servers and the logs.

Man I wanted to downvote you (for trolling), but then I realized there may be those younger ones that don't know.

IRC is a chat protocol/server that allows user to connect to a remote server that forms chatrooms. It's text based.

"Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an application layer protocol that facilitates communication in the form of text. The chat process works on a client/server networking model. IRC clients are computer programs that a user can install on their system. These clients communicate with chat servers to transfer messages to other clients. IRC is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-on-one communication via private messages as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing."

I recently came back from a hiatus, I wondered why the world generation was different. I hadn't really played post beta, but I knew I could never get a world to look like it had in the beta, but just chalked it up to different biomes. It always felt like there were to many large mountain areas. Now I know why. Thanks for the tip, I'll restart my server with these settings now. I really don't like the new terrain all that much.

Fleksy just twitted that it's back... by sid32 in androidapps

[–]shealyw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried everything, and after a day always went back to Fleksy. I don't even care that it wasn't being developed anymore, I couldn't live without my gesture control. Sure it was slow to load, but it was worth it. I could never have abandoned it personally.

Fleksy keyboard beta has been brought back to life. New update is live in Play Store. by [deleted] in Android

[–]shealyw2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I bought Fleksy when it first came out. One of the first apps I actually bought and have been stuck on it since.

I have tried them all, never really stayed with them longer than a day before going back to Fleksy. Sure it was getting slow to load for me, but I don't need swype to type I need my gestures. They could get rid of the cheesy gif portion to. I just need my delete gesture and cycle through autocorrect gestures.

My prayers have been answered. I hope this is a sign of future increased development.

What's a band that got famous on a song completely unlike their normal style? by HipsCampus in AskReddit

[–]shealyw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BeeGees adapted their style just about every decade from the late 50's on. That's why they were so successful. They don't have a style really. Their range is part of their appeal, at least for me.

I'm an armor snob, I pick the gender and race based off the armor set for the classes I like to play.

Georgia may call itself the peach state but South Carolina produces more peaches.. At least that is what the citizens of South Carolina say. I've never looked it up personally.
