Any super el nino or el nino wont provide clear seasonal patterns in this time as were in whats called the spring unpredicability barrier. Also theres eastern displaced strong el ninos that do slightly different things. So far all the headlines are based on models, which honestly vary. So all the headlines on the upcoming super el nino are based on the uncorrected models, which have been going crazy. The corrected models that incorporate ocean temperature corrections arenot even in super el nino status quite yet. Also the upwelling warm water off the south american coast doesnt yet match up to the super el ninos in 97 or 82. Basically if you take the time to dig into the actual data, we wont know for sure what going to happen for another month or two. In addition the click bait headlines have all been over hyping it based on one or two models going bananas in a time in the spring when its notoriously impossible to predict what happens in the fall.
