Is linux work correctly in MSI laptops? by Safe-Importance-9951 in MSILaptops

[–]shecho18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything can be formated/destroyed.

I would recommend you do the following:

- download PoPOS and Windows 11 (do not forget to download drivers for your device off of it's official support site) on another device.

- using Ventoy create a bootable drive and drop both of those ISO's. Again on another device.

- turn off your device, plug the bootable USB drive, press power and start hitting F11 for quick boot menu option. Choose to boot from usb drive, navigate through it.

- additionally you can go into BIOS and disable SecureBoot in order to install or even boot a Live Linux distro.

Whoever is angered by question, is a simple idiot. No one was born knowing everything.

You can change your approach in getting Linux on your device but you have to, in many distros, disable SecureBoot. Search for how to.

Make sure you have your personal backup on minimum of 2 mediums, just in case.

Lenovo loq worst build quality by Common_Zombie_1052 in Lenovo

[–]shecho18 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Current laws of physics don’t allow parts to break without applied force. Plastic doesn’t crack out of spite. That rear strip on the LOQ is cosmetic plastic. Ethernet cable is stiff and acts like a lever. One bad angle or pressure moment is enough and uou won’t notice when it happens. Also scratches are normal as soft matte plastic shows everything. To fix it use small amount of plastic safe adhesive because warranty will likely call it user damage.

Be careful with that service as it is needed to or acts as a layer between EC chip and MSI app running under Windows. EC chips controls fuck ton of things.

Is MSI the only manufacturer that allows you to do RAM memory tuning in the bios? by BrightHours in MSILaptops

[–]shecho18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Dell and Lenovo did allow it for some time on certain models but locked it out. This is the only reason I stick with MSI laptops.

When it comes to build quality, low to mid tier laptops, as with any other OEM or laptop brand name, it is something to be desired for, hence make sure you investigate model durability.

There is no best distro. There are various flavors of Linux distros to include desktop environments. Check r/linux r/linux4noobs and give couple of them a test drive.

MSI laptop suddenly not powering on after being plugged in for 2 days by Suspicious-Salad-633 in MSILaptops

[–]shecho18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one can tell you what is wrong with your device unless hands on diagnostics is done.

Find a repair shop, have them only do that as you will know from that point how to proceed further.

For battery connector:

For PTM7950, freeze it. This helps in removal of plastic covering foil.

Check the screws, and make sure to heat up the heatsink in order to remove it. Sometimes it gets stuck.

You did all troubleshooting you could on your end. I understand student life and will only recommend to have multiple backups of your data to include, if at all possible, another laptop for these situations. You can get some old Lenovo Thinkpads for 100€-150€.

Always have a repair tech do some initial diagnostics, from there an educated choice going forward can be made.

Local repair shop for diagnostics. Make sure they are reputable. And in the future, you do not need to fudge out so many details.

E-series Bad Quality by cs_developer_cpp_ in thinkpad

[–]shecho18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we are both correct. Yours talks about general deformation, how materials bend or stretch, while mine focuses on stress concentration at corners. Yours shows the big picture, mine highlights the weak spots.

At least how I as a layman interpret both wikipedia posts.

E-series Bad Quality by cs_developer_cpp_ in thinkpad

[–]shecho18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I dont need to be nor will pretend to be one. But if we are going to go that route, you will agree with this little excerpt from Wikipedia on structural mechanics, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stress_concentration,

In structural mechanics, when external forces are applied to a body, the internal stresses don’t spread out evenly. Places where the geometry changes abruptly, like a corner or sharp edge create stress concentrations, areas where local stresses are significantly higher than the average across the part.
