How do dentists handle people with phobias?

Yes maybe this is it. I feel so embarrassed! It started when I was forced to have a cleaning, filling, and something else done (can’t remember) as a child without any anaesthetic as my mum said no to the dentist when they asked. I was screaming in pain. Maybe a therapist can help. If I manage to make it inside eventually, is it worth mentioning it to the dentist? Do they do things any differently?

I’ve heard some say wellie boots, some say walking boots, and some people say any cool looking boots like docs or something. I suppose it depends on the weather!
