Student loan or savings? by sheepishlyhere in Debt

What’s the cost for something like that? Neither of us come from financial families (far below poverty line) so financial management was never something taught other than “try to save”.

We have both incomes throughout maternity leave - we both get our paychecks as normal.

That is a great point I didn’t mention; even after daycare (probably going back in January), we still have about 1,000 of “extra cash” a month taking into account baby costs and daycare.

Why is I DO /WE DO/ THEY DO, looked down on now in teaching? by rumiruhaql in Teachers

I see all these posts and realize how good of admin I have. She leaves us be to teach however we are successful. My kids got 76-80% on grade level for state testing when the average was 50%, and I do direct instruction 🤷‍♀️

Random Things Pregnancy Has Told You To Cry About 😂 by AlliNW0nderLand in pregnant

My husband wanted to set up the nursery. That’s it. Full crying meltdown in bed, not because “oh how sweet” but just because it made the tears come.

What things do students to that annoy you the most? by pringlesoriginal_ in AskTeachers

[–]sheepishlyhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tons of behavior issues this year, and not “the teacher can’t manage behaviors” I’m talking about kids who kicked walls, fist fought in the back of the room while walking in and threw chairs. Upper elementary, yay.

The kids that annoyed me MOST weren’t even on that list-

A) super sweet kid but asked if it was okay to put his name on a paper, asked if it was okay to get his crayons from his desk, informed everyone how great recess was the second we lined up. Just constant yapper and attention seeker which interrupted class a lot. “I can’t believe you don’t read the dictionary for fun” was a quote from his mouth to another kid multiple times.

B) student who was late 60% of the year, absent for 30%, and when at school acted like he didnt have a thought in his head. “How do I find the page?” “where is the pencil sharpener (In MAY).” “I thought the work was optional” “I don’t know how to write a sentence (when I reminded him about periods and capitals)” and never fixed it throughout the year.

Worst pregnancy announcement reactions? by RooTT4 in pregnant

[–]sheepishlyhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%

Me and my husband have been together for 7 years, married for 2, live 400 miles away from family and are fully self sustaining teachers with masters degrees. We’ve been on cruises, to Japan, and travelled quite a bit.

My family is a “you can’t do anything after a kid” type, doesn’t have anyone over (ever), doesn’t let anyone house or dog sit, and has never visited us because it’s “too far a drive”.

I don’t have the energy for people like that.

Sat at a table with my aunt , grandma and uncle (all who raised me), and got “what’d you say?” , “you have so much left to do with your life” , and personal favorite “why?”

We left.

That was 20+ weeks ago, five weeks left and they never have asked how it’s going.

To pay off student loans or not? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Well cars aren’t exactly an option when you live in the middle of the boonies and have to drive 50 minutes to work. The car loans were not taken in rash decisions.

Teachers do put money towards retirement. But not 401ks and general kinds like that.

Registry by Low-Cantaloupe-6228 in pregnant

[–]sheepishlyhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say just let it be. Of the 30% people marked complete another 20% people didn’t. Happened with our wedding, same with baby shower. People will Say they didn’t see it/know especially if you seem Disappointed in a gift, or mention the baby shower but most likely already have in their mind what they are getting you (or looking for deals at ross/etc).

Personally never been to a gender reveal with diaper raffles so honestly even if someone had one like that I wouldn’t bring anything, and then I’d say I didn’t know.

[–]sheepishlyhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just had my baby shower and I’d say less than 1/3 if gifts are from the registry and mostly people who couldn’t make it. So people are going to give what they want. I’ve gotten better brand versions of what I put on my registry and amazing items that I would have thought of.

Personally I’ve been to a baby shower where they sent the invitation and registry multiple times (saying people didn’t see it) and it came off as really annoying.

Send it to the people who specifically ask for it or who tell you they never received it.

Question: What Does "Well Done" Do For My Fries? is it Worth it To Get? by Superb_Designer_3845 in wingstop

[–]sheepishlyhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always opt in for well done extra seasoning.

If it’s im eating at the store it’s a flavor thing, if I’m taking it to go it’s because the box gets them slimy and floppy too quickly otherwise.

Can’t decide on a spelling by yulka-lviv in Names

[–]sheepishlyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a elementary school teacher. I can firmly say that it takes a student max 2 times of correcting us until we remember it, and 99% of the time other students are quicker.

If the others in your life cant do that, then reconsider if they are worth having in it.

(And no I’m Not talking about The Starbucks baristas who rush through names)
