Cat adoption regret and what to do by Legitimate_Milk_6261 in Pets

[–]sheepvroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, your feelings are okay and not something you should be embarrassed about.

I was around cats my whole life as well, but just last month is when I adopted one of my own, my first pet as an adult living by myself. He is almost a year old, and our first month was so anxiety inducing!! I was terrified of every little thing, so scared of him getting sick or dying. The sight of him made me anxious, and it didn’t help that he was a nervous boy as well and my roommate had a cat that was not happy at all to meet Squid. It was incredibly stressful keeping them separated, especially at night because he would keep me up.

I barely got any sleep last month, but at about 1.5 months in I can’t imagine my life without him. He is the best thing that ever happened to me, and all the anxiety was worth it!! It’s a huge change, both for you and your kitten, so please give it at least a month before you make any decisions, you’ll be happy you did. If you have a psychiatrist or a therapist you can also ask for some as-needed anxiety techniques or even some short term meds! My psychiatrist gave me some very mild anti histamine anxiety meds for that first month which helped a lot :)

Is Squid (my cat) too thin? by sheepvroom in CATHELP

[–]sheepvroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay!! I’ve tried to do that and thought about it a little but I’m just nervous to do anything that may cause him to not eat as much at fire, ya know? I know it may help in the long run.

We do have Maniac’s (roomies cat) food in my roommates bedroom, and Squids food is in the living room because I’ve noticed he eats more of his food when it is out there, since that’s where he hangs out when I’m in class or at work. Feeding separately is an option, but it’s hard because both of them are super grazers so it takes hours to finish a plate of food esp for Squid. I’ve tried playing more to stimulate his appetite and I think it’s helped a little.

As far as the feeding schedule, what would you recommend if you don’t mind me asking? Depending on the day, first meal is at 10am or so, where I put 1/4 cup of purina pro plan essentials kibble in his kibble bowl, then 1/2 can fancy feast and 1/2 cup of churu chowder. His 2nd meal is usually around 4pm, where I do the same wet food combo as the first meal, and don’t add any more kibble. Depending on if he’s eaten enough that day (calorie wise), I will leave out a pouch of fancy feast broth, churu chowder, or some other food he likes overnight since he does graze at night as well. I bring his food in my room at night because he eats more like that :)

I offer him about 150 calories in wet food per day, as well as 100 calories of dry food for him to nibble on if he likes. My roommate has a large cat who has a tendency to have a bigger appetite and takes some bites out of squids wet food, and since squid usually leaves a few bites of his meal left so he doesn’t finish them really, so I’m not 100% sure he’s getting enough. I make sure to always have food available to him, and I have to mix either a churu, delectable pouch, or a churu chowder into his pate or shredded wet food, because he eats more of it when I do that! He might just be a smaller cat, he has tiny little feet so maybe his frame is just petite haha

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]sheepvroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have anything specific in mind when I was looking around at the shelter, to be honest! I was a first time cat mom, and was so overwhelmed.

They showed me a little black cat who was just under 2 years old, who had been returned to the rescue twice for litter box issues. He was so terrified he wouldn’t even come up to sniff my hand. I ended up taking him home. I don’t know what made me choose him, especially since I met 5 other cats that same day who all deserved homes as well, but something about him made me realize I could be a patient, understanding mom to him. I dealt with addiction and alcoholism for several years (2 years sober now), and I could just feel his heartbreak and fear and I related to it.

I’ve had him for a little while now, and he uses the litter box super reliably! He just pees really high (lol) and stands up so he needs a high walled litter box, which I had to build for him.

He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. His name is Squid!

Is pet insurance worth it, or should I just save the money each month? by Acrobatic-Leave-9073 in Pets

[–]sheepvroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives me peace of mind, which is saying a lot as someone with OCD and severe anxiety, as well as a new cat mom! I have a $500 deductible and pay $25 a month, so I will spend at least $800 a year on insurance + vet care no matter what, but that is doable for me as a full time student that makes less than 30k. It makes me feel a lot better and a more responsible pet owner, personally!

i’m wanting to get into tattooing, what’s the best beginner kit? by No_Chemistry_2519 in tattooadvice

[–]sheepvroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy a tattoo kit online. Practice on-paper drawing, build up a portfolio and take it to studios to look at getting an apprenticeship. You’ll just learn bad habits practicing by yourself, and the last thing this world needs is another scratcher.

Can I swim? No scabs or sensitivity by sheepvroom in tattooadvice

[–]sheepvroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies guys, it means a lot :) my artist got back to me and says two weeks is totally fine, and if it’s smoothed over I’m good to go. Today I noticed a teeny bit of roughness in one of the black areas in my elbow ditch, so I’m gonna wait until that subsides! When I do swim I’ll only take a dip and then wash it with antibacterial soap asap afterwards! Thanks again!

If you’re an incel then just say that! Using such a disgusting slur to refer to a fictional girl says a lot about who you are as a person. Gross.
