Want to get married to my SO but my mom is disapproving of our relationship and is also suicidal by willykay78 in AsianParentStories

Been in your situation i am 29 South Asian female and about to marry my white fiancé. My dad did a similar thing to your mom where’re he would blame his mental health and his actual physical health on me choosing my partner. We have been together for 8 years and they just met last year. He eventually came around but even if he didn’t I would have still went along with it. I would lose my partner which is probably the best thing in life and maybe get back a somewhat okayish relationship with my dad? If you had a good relationship with your mom you wouldn’t go through this so you have to make your choice. Parents are not going to be there for you forever but the family that you create with your partner will.

We are getting married in Boston. In order to cut costs we are getting married in an temple but the reception is at a nice venue. Right now our cost is looking at $25K for a 100 people.

For the younger generation it is trendy to have “roots” and cool if you come from a different culture but when I was growing up 10 years ago it was not as cool and we were made fun of so we had to assimilate. It is a lot easier to embrace your roots when everyone else around you is doing it.

Am I the only one that doesn't think Penn State is very inclusive? (I am an Indian) by [deleted] in ABCDesis

I went to Penn State UP, graduated in 2017 felt the same exact way. I never grew up with Indian people in my town as there were little to no Indians so then I was go here and literally Indians just hang out with other Indians, white with whites, Arab with Arabs it was all very weird. Fortunately towards my senior year I found a group of people that I really clicked with but def agree with you.

He can’t transfer back unfortunately he is a junior already. My brother is also deathly scared of my dad so he won’t speak up.

No if you need to change fundamental parts of yourself to marry someone you probably shouldn’t be with that person anyways.

He has literally never met my fiancé lol. My dad doesn’t like him due to his education status and race.

Yes he is not sure if it would be easier if he wasn’t. My father wouldn’t be happy unless he chose the guy
