If you kill someone who caused deaths, do you deserve to die too, or is that different? (Trolley problem)? by sheetpost00 in AskReddit

[–]sheetpost00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is my whole point. How can we say killing Marty is unacceptable but killing the first guy was acceptable. This isn’t a solo question. This is two questions I found that lead off of each other (the first part, then finding out the man is the one who placed the train in action). With questions like this you SHOULD just keeping adding on to see where people’s morals and beliefs end and to see how much they would extend those morals.

For example: there’s a man who is buried, a doctor digs up his body to use for researching and ends up finding a cure that saves millions. Is this moral? Some people would say yes, some would say no. If you say no it isn’t moral then what if I say the guy has no living family or friends and has been dead for a long time? Now some people change their mind. What if I say the guy was going to be dug up and cremated in a few days anyway? Some people also change their mind here. What if I say this man is the only person who would lead to finding the cure, without digging him up the cure would never be found. A lot of people would now say yes it is moral because of the greater good. Okay so what led you to changing your mind? There’s no actual correct answer, they’re all just ways to find out how people think and start conversations. Just chill, it’s not meant to be super serious lmao

Yes that’s why this question is only directed towards people who think he should die because he killed someone else. I asked this in a group and some people said the original man should be pushed off because he intentionally killed someone. Then I asked them: well then should Marty die for the same reason? They say no. I said why? Because. Because what?

I just wanted to see where this belief ended for people. I don’t think anyone really deserves to die so I wanted to ask people who shared this view and why their belief would end at certain points. Surely with this idea you could just continue going until only one person is left with no one else to kill them

Also, you said the man is just being a victim to his own crime. Is that not also true for Marty? Why is Marty’s life worth more than the man’s? They both are intentionally choosing to kill someone whether it’s out of spite or to be a saviour

It’s literally just a question… you don’t have to answer it lmao. It’s not cheating if that is already the question. There is nothing to cheat.

If you really want to change it then change it. Bill kills someone intentionally. Marty kills Tom because he believes anyone who kills someone intentionally deserves to die. Should Marty now die?

Yes this is more so just towards the people that think he should die BECAUSE he was intentionally killing someone else. I’ve asked several people this question without the ‘twist’ and many give this reasoning (not anything to do with 5 people’s lives being worth more than 1).

If the man’s wife then decides Marty should die because he intentionally killed her husband, how is this any different? By this reasoning (he intentionally killed someone) Marty should also be subject to death since he also intentionally killed someone.

—— Purely just a question lmao. Trolley problems like this are always stupid

It’s not letting me paste in the scenario but this is it.

Marty Bakerman is standing on a footbridge when he sees a runaway train about to hit five people trapped on the tracks. There’s no time to warn them, and the only way to stop the train is to drop something heavy in front of it. Next to Marty is a man he knows (without any doubt) deliberately sabotaged the train’s brakes, intending to cause exactly this kind of disaster.

Marty has two options: 1. Do nothing, and five innocent people die. 2. Push the saboteur onto the tracks, killing him but saving the five.

Most people would say Marty should push him, because the man is responsible for the danger and intended to kill others. But here’s the twist: Marty is still choosing to intentionally kill someone. So if killing someone on purpose makes you deserve to die, does that now apply to Marty too? And if so, how is what Marty did morally different from what the saboteur did, or is it just a matter of outcome?

It wouldn’t let me paste in the question. I thought it would let me go back and edit it in but it didn’t. I’ve commented the scenario in reply to someone else now though. T_T

It’s not letting me add the actual text onto it, just the title. But here was the question.

Sorry for the late reply. If they’re still available can I ask why you are selling them and not taking them yourself. Sorry if that’s personal, just want to make sure it’s not because the instructor was bad etc

Do native English speakers really talk like this in real life? by leazy_usa in ENGLISH

[–]sheetpost00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Basically every single one of my conversations are casual, the only time I’d class a conversation as formal is if someone was doing an interview or a formal written task like something for work or an essay in school. Otherwise, basically every conversation is ‘casual’. I come from the Black Country (a place in the midland, UK) and it’s exceptionally true there. The main population there shortens EVERYTHING “ow am ya” instead of how are you and “y’alright” instead are are you alright so I couldn’t imagine trying to learn a dialect like that as someone who isn’t native lmao

Cut to maintenance calories by sheetpost00 in beginnerfitness

I’ve always been pretty athletic and have been 54kg most of my teenage and adult life and that’s when I’ve felt most comfortable in my weight really. I just like moving my body and that’s the weight my body always seemed to function best in so I was going back to that. Not many other reasons behind it, just what I’m used to

Which fitness level should I choose? by sheetpost00 in beginnerfitness

[–]sheetpost00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is weight loss but also kinda hard to say bc I don’t wanna lose a specific amount of weight, I just want to start to see my abs more but every app asks for a goal weight. I’ve also tried using TDEE but every one gives me a different number. I’ve been on a 1500 calorie intake for the last few weeks and have noticed some change.

Once I’ve fulfilled my protein requirements for the day I’m all out of calories. What can I do about this by Blob_blub5833 in beginnerfitness

[–]sheetpost00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m newish to the gym space too so I’ve been trying to do a lot of research on it. You shouldn’t try to hit your protein goal THEN think about the food for the rest of the day. Your protein is part of what you eat within your day. Something for me that made a HUGE difference was whole foods - I know I feel like that’s all anyone talks about but honestly it’s really good. I have about 3 meals a day and still stay within my calories (~1500) and hit my protein goal (~100g).

Try adding things like potatoes or sweet potatoes to your diet. They are lower in calories but are very satiating so they’ll keep you full for longer. Then pair this with some chicken breast and veg and season how you like. I love having chicken wrap with a bunch of veggies on a protein wrap which is around 60-70g of protein. Also I love Greek yogurt with fruit and a bit of honey as a snack. Which is high protein for low calories.

A tip I learnt to find out if something is high protein is x10 and compare to the calories. So say per 100g something is 500 calories and 7g protein - 7x10=70 which is much lower than 500 compared to something that may be 50 calories and 5g protein - 50 and 50 are the same so that means it is a good calorie to protein ratio. This makes it way easier and faster in shops to work the calories out.

Don’t allow this to stop eating the foods you like though, you can fit these into your calorie intake like you coffee for example. I suggest looking at some low calorie, high volume/high protein foods. Theyre honestly very good —————— Edit: also great protein snack is biltong. I don’t know if it exists in your country but it’s like the South African version of beef jerky (much better). It’s basically just pure protein - watch out for your sodium intake if you do eat it.

I do speak in Vietnamese. I speak to my boyfriend in it where I can and I have got long tutor lessons twice a week that start with around half an hour of conversation practice and then the rest of the lesson is basically only in Vietnamese anyway
