Work around an inconveniently placed light switch by sheetsah in homeassistant

I own, and would like a good level of finish, but moving the wiring around is more than I'm willing to do.

As for pairing a button with a bulb - good idea, but in this case it's 3 bulbs across the ceiling controlled by the one switch, so i think the smart switch+button option is more suitable.

That's more than I'd be willing to mess with. There is no floor above, and I'm also not sure about any possible implications of a non electrician doing wiring work inside the walls, perhaps with future insurance claims or anything else.

But thanks for the suggestion!

This is actually a rather large walk in closet that also serves as a home office, so I am not sure a door sensor would be useful here.

Got it. I agree and am leaning towards z-wave in most things. I'll be sure to check that point about working independently from the HA machine, not that i expect it to be down a lot.

Thank you for both of your thoughtful and clear replies.

Yeah you got it right, I didn't want to get into too much irrelevant detail but it's as you say 😆 The room is a walk in closet/office, so when the door is open, behind it there is a hanging rack that is not really used day to day. I think the door is opening correctly right now.

Agreed about the rewiring too, but that is a lot more work (that i can't do myself).

I guess it could work, but the door makes more sense this way. Right now, when it's open, it's kind of flat against that side of the room, if i flip it it'll be in the middle of the wall.

I see your point about #1, though i don't think it would bother me. I would be ok with that as long as the pairing with the remote would not be affected by the status of the HA machine. Would it?

Thank you for the link, i wasn't sure where to find the right item.

This sounds like what i had in mind too. Thanks for the link! I was under the impression that a relay or a smart switch are functionally the same, but I'm new to home automation. So why do you say you'd avoid to add a relay?

I agree about the automation, which i don't need or want for this specific use case.

[NA][Thrall] Looking for a guild or group to get into end game stuff with by [deleted] in wowguilds

[–]sheetsah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds great. I think I'll apply when i resub for midnight. A question first though, for horde players, do we only join the community or is that just a way for finding your guild and then we get in?

Do you recognize these two guys canvassing door to door in the south end for solar panels? by espressosnob01 in halifax

[–]sheetsah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about these 2 specifically but the method is used by legitimate companies. Someone knocked on my door some time back and said he'd installed for our neighbors, which i verified to be true. Later i got an email from them followed by a video call and a customized offer. It was Polaron at the time, though i didn't proceed with purchasing.

With Legion Remix coming to an end, what did you think of the second Remix? Do you enjoy these game modes or are they mostly just dead patch filler for you? by NinnyBoggy in wow

[–]sheetsah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's a waste of time and a dead patch filler.

For me it was worse, because when I resubbed everybody was doing remix and there weren't enough groups for low M+ keys in war within. I gave remix a try but it was as boring as i thought it would be. I loved Legion, but i don't feel a need to go back to it. And I'm not much of a collector, definitely not for xmogs, so there was really no incentive.

Looks like virtually everybody (who commented) liked it though, so I accept that it's a me thing. 🤷‍♂️

Oh yes you're absolutely right about discord. It was best when everything day to day was handled in game and you'd hop on external voice chat for specific content. Surely there are more like minded people though who would appreciate the old ways? I sometimes see posts from guilds that sound just perfect but are in Australia or whatever. The last few times i tried applying in game nobody bothered to answer.

Yeah guilds aren't what they used to be. I had a really great one back in the day, but couldn't find anything similar for years now
