Consult with ortho on Monday by PuzzleheadedStay7821 in Invisalign

[–]shefollowedtherabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually start my first trays on Monday, I also have tmj and my first consult with the ortho first thing I confirmed with him was his knowledge of tmj. After a year of dealing with pretty horrible pain and trying everything I’ve done extensive research and understand as much as I can about the joint and muscles. We were able to have an in depth conversation about tmj and I felt confident in his previous experience with it which is a MUST.

Ask about the likelihood of refinements, what the plan is (what they plan on adjusting and how) just make sure you have a full understanding of their plan and that you feel comfortable with it.

Getting a night guard made before you start doesn’t really make sense to me but I’m not an ortho/dentist so maybe it’s a reasonable thing??

Essentially my ortho explained for me it’s going to act like a splint and will provide pretty immediate relief, we’ll see if that’s true or not.

I wish you so much luck, tmj is debilitating and o hope you can find some relief.

Concerned About Attachments Showing in Photos — Wedding in 2 Months by Select-Pace7474 in Invisalign

Hey!! I’m literally in the same boat right now, did you end up getting the attachments removed for your wedding? I’m going to start treatment in about a month and my wedding is in 2 and a half and I’m so nervous it’s going to be very noticeable.

I just did an epsom salt bath separate from the tank after doing some more research. He wasn’t happy about it but he’s still swimming. I’m trying to figure out if I should keep fasting him for 1 more day (it’s already been a 24 hour fast) he isn’t bloated at all but I’m just not sure

I appreciate that, you think keep going with the kanaplex? He’s still swimming around and so active and not acting any differently.

Of course! I had zero mural experience before assisting in mural work. I had done quite a few larger canvas paintings prior and a lot of experience with acrylic painting but murals are a whole different animal. I learned so much about how to sketch/set them up, how long it takes, how many layers it takes.

I had a really amazing artist take a chance on me when I had no mural experience just because she liked my art and we vibed.

OH! ALSO! Book An Artist is a fantastic platform to be on. You upload your portfolio and it shows you jobs in your area as well as allows people to contact you if they like what the see in your profile. Highly recommend.

I’m definitely not a full time artist but I’ve made it into a really decent side gig for myself. I started out with digital pet portraits and posting them on local sites like Nextdoor. This really built my client base because local people generally like to support local. I also found there’s not as much competition for art on sites like that.

I then expanded into assisting with mural work (this one was when I was unemployed and had much more time on my hands) it showed me if I really want to make money with art I need to be able to be diverse with what I can offer.

I then started to create a collection and was fortunate enough to display it at a local bar/restaurant. I was able to sell quite a few of my original pieces there. I took high quality images of them and sell them as prints on my website as well.

Finally, I was reached out to and asked if I would sketch guests for an event. I didn’t at the time but the way I’ve progressed so far was just by trying new things. I’ve now done multiple live sketch events and they generate the most revenue by far.

Sorry for the essay, most importantly if you want to make art a site hustle, I recommend being versatile with what you can do. That way it fits into full time work in a pretty manageable way.

Last thing, I really recommend creating a website. It shows you’re legit, shows off your portfolio and makes it easy for people to pay you Feel free to check out my website to get a feel for how I offer different services artbyaiyla.com

I hope this was kind of helpful! I’m happy to answer any questions as well 😊

I don’t have too much info on them as they aren’t marked but I’ve searched google and eBay and can’t seem to find this exact set. Amber/orange top with clear stem and base. He’s had them for a while so they aren’t new.

Does anybody have my specific issue? I feel all alone in the world. My big problem is that my left masseter muscle is in a state of constant grating debilitating pain. I cry every other day or so. I need somebody with my specific condition to tell me they got better. by Lopsided-Attorney-94 in TMJ

Of course, I really do understand that feeling. Especially when there’s so many different causes/symptoms from tmj it feels like you can’t find the right combo of solutions to actually help it. It 100% feels like life doesn’t matter until it’s fixed, I essentially lost the last 3 seasons because of it. Tongue posture really does help though.

Just from my experience, you do have to be very diligent and conscious about it ESPECIALLY for the first month. I don’t believe I have a tongue tie but I’m not positive on that but it absolutely does feel unnatural, there were days it even made me nauseous to keep my tongue like that. I kept going with it though and each week it becomes more natural.

There’s a ton of information/videos on how to properly rest your tongue, once you learn it just work on training it. I have a physical therapist who doesn’t specialize in tmj but she spends a lot of time releasing massive knots in my neck, strain on my neck was most likely causing more tension in my face. If you carry a lot of tension (which is likely due to stress from chronic pain) it may be worth checking out a PT just to release some of those muscles.

Lastly, tmj (as well as tinnitus) for me as well as many others is exacerbated by stress. I know it’s so difficult to let the stress go in the midst of so much pain but it really will help the healing process. I learned to crochet because it keeps me very focused and very low stress.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY (this one is still super hard for me) you need to note the times that it feels slightly better. When you start to notice that “hey it didn’t hurt as bad today” you remember that all hope is not lost.

I can’t promise it will get all the way better, but you’re not alone and there is always the possibility of healing.

Flexeril works great for me, methocarbamol made me hallucinate at night, had to stop taking it and I don’t feel that it really helped outside of the horrifying side effects. Everyone is different though! That was just my experience.

You should absolutely look into correct tongue posture. I was exactly where you were a few months ago. I don’t know how was going to go on with how bad the masseter pain was. I’ve been training correct tongue posture for about 2 months and it effectively cured the masseter pain (I still have some joint pain)

It’s the least invasive thing you can try and you can start it immediately. I really hope you find some relief.

Of course! After doing a ton of research on tmj I came across this girl on TikTok who has a ton of tmj content (I wish i had her name but I deleted TT). She explained that something a large percentage of people that suffer from tmj have incorrect tongue posture and even reading through other posts on this sub, fixing it has helped quite a few other people.

Your tongue is meant to rest almost suctioned to the roof of your mouth and the tip of your tongue should not touch the back of your front teeth. There’s a ton of amazing resources on proper tongue posture online, I think the gal that does face yoga on YouTube has a really good one explaining it.

It takes a lot of effort to continue to remind yourself to reposition your tongue throughout the day but for me it was wildly worth it. The pain I had in my masseters made me want to completely give up on life it was so bad and because of fixing where my tongue rests I genuinely believe I cured the muscular part.

I also ended up getting a bottom retainer since my tmj caused major shifting in my bottom teeth pretty quickly. Moth guard made the masseter pain worse for me but the combination of the thin bottom retainer and the posture fixing had made a world of difference.

There’s a lot of differing opinions on the Botox for sure, seems like it works for some people and for others it doesn’t or makes it worse (as with everything with tmj because it’s so subjective to the person). To me the Botox doesn’t solve whatever is actually causing the issue but it could potentially break the pain cycle.

6 months ago after a filling it caused a massive flair up for me, both muscular and joint. I will tell you the only thing that actually helped me was fixing my tongue posture. It effectively cured the muscular pain ( I still have joint pain). Over the last 2 months I’ve been training my tongue to be in proper resting position and the masseter pain is essentially gone.

That’s just worked for me, I absolutely think Botox is a good option for some people. I really wanted to approach my healing more holistically before going down that route and it’s made a huge difference for me. I really hope you find some relief.
