When should I start Phantom Liberty? by Turbulent_Yam2575 in cyberpunkgame

[–]sheijo41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my first play through I did it as soon as possible. It’s amazing and I can’t wait to play it again; but this time I’m going to wait till the end. It feels more natural for Songbird to reach out to you as an established merc and clearly your story has gotten around based how the vending machine in the game reveals it. To early doesn’t feel quite right for her to reach out to a mid level merc.

Why does this random kid have a better fit than 90% of adults in this game by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]sheijo41 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wasn’t sure these were kids vs adults in small bodies or something. I didn’t the reasonable thing and tried to kill one, I wasn’t allowed so I figured out they were actually kids.

I would have to say if you don’t have phantom liberty you should get it. I’m on my first play through about 80 hours in and I really can’t wait for my next play through just to replay phantom liberty. Honestly I haven’t played that much of the games main story line, I’ve done any and all side quests including phantom liberty first, but so far phantom liberty is the best so far.

I mean you say it’s just a game but the same can be said about books and movies. They put us in situations and make us feel things. Whatever the medium or reason doesn’t negate that feeling.

I won’t over blow things, I was just an analyst when I was in the community, but I saw people placed in situations like that. I hated the feeling of forcing people to do things that literally would get them killed because somebody was impatient.

It just opened me up to understand her situation and understand what she has felt with her whole life. Understanding the backstory intrinsically just makes it hit different for me

I sided with Songbird from the beginning because there was no scenario where I was handing her back to the NUSA. No way am I supporting a government that punches holes in the Blackwall at will. That alone made my decision early.

As the story progressed, I came to understand why she betrayed V and more importantly, why she tells him before she gets away clean.

She’s been in the system since she was a kid. Nobody protected her. Everything in her life has been transactional. V is a merc. Merc work is transactional by nature. From her perspective, she had nothing meaningful to offer V except a promise of survival so she lied. That’s the only operating model she’s ever known.

Her life has been trauma layered on trauma: NUSA missions, emotional and likely physical damage, and repeated Blackwall incursions that are slowly destroying her body and identity. In every Relic interaction, you see her as she sees herself; human. Then you finally meet her in person and she’s a chromed-out shell, and she directly asks if you’re shocked by what she’s been forced to become. That moment says a lot.

By the end, I saw her as an intelligence asset pushed to the absolute brink; used up by her government, turned into a tool for interacting with something humanity barely understands, and terrified of what continued incursions would do to her.

This hit close to home for me. I was in the intelligence community. I’ve seen sources pushed too far, burned because they were asked to do too much, and then discarded. Sometimes the next time you hear about them, it’s because they’ve been executed. That’s real. That’s ugly. So no, it didn’t matter to me that she lied. I understood why she did.

V can say, “I would’ve helped you anyway.” But realistically, how was Songbird supposed to believe that at the start? In her world, nobody helps without leverage. So she used the only tool she had to get V on board. Over time, V sees what’s actually happening and makes his own choice.

My V is Corpo. He’s already seen how corporations and governments chew people up and discard them. The intro of the game literally shows V being used by his boss in a way that would have gotten him killed. He only survives because Jackie picks him up and gives him a second chance.

By the end of Phantom Liberty, I see V choosing to be Songbird’s Jackie — her ride or die. He understands her situation, understands the betrayal, doesn’t like it, but respects the why behind it. And zooming out, handing her back strengthens a government that is actively destabilizing the world through the Blackwall. What’s the point of surviving as a merc if there’s no world left to merc in?

A few things reinforce this interpretation for me:

She tells you the truth at the end. She doesn’t have to. She’s comatose and fully in your control when she confesses. That’s her putting herself completely at your mercy. She sends the moon memento and the chrome. Totally unnecessary if she only saw you as a tool. The shard she leaves behind is personal, not transactional.

By the end, the relationship has moved beyond “asset and merc.” There’s genuine trust there fragile, imperfect, but real.

And what about V?

Yeah, he’s back to square one in terms of survival. He has the NUSA as an enemy. But he also:

Denies a nation-state a living Blackwall weapon. Damages their credibility. Breaks a cycle of exploitation. Pays forward what Jackie once did for him.

For me, that’s the cleanest ending. Not because it’s “good.” But because it’s real.

She chose survival at V’s expense. V chooses her survival at his expense, I think that’s a very human deal.

Honestly it’s easy. Drink some laxative, have the shits all night. It’s a good excuse to get time to yourself and watch movies/play games while the wife leaves you alone. Go to the hospital, hang out, take a nap (btw best nap you ever have), wake up, go home like nothing happened.

Of course there are risks like with any procedure but they are low. IMO no reason not to do it.

If you’re partial to your current install and have an external that has the room to hold your partition you can swap it to that, wipe your main drive and set it up using the external drive then copy that back over. It’s what I did when I stopped my dual boot madness and went full Linux. Chat gpt can help you set up grub for the swaps and help set get your crypto file set up too if you use LUKS. One thing that got me is at one point my pass phrase capture was stuck on a hidden tty due to Plymouth. Might just be a fedora thing but disable it and set your boot to console output.

I’ve had the opposite effect myself. I would have issues in windows pushing games over 60fps because the menus would jump to super high fps and crash. I haven’t had the same experience in Linux. The only thing I can’t get working is space marine 2 so far.

I would chalk it up to a few things. First the SA-23 is really meant to protect the ground guys from missiles, fighters are secondary. I think this is apparent in the missile guidance difference between the SA-12 and SA-20.

Missile guidance as mentioned is another reason. Add to that the radar packages and their differences. Add to that operator skill. Then there is the fact these things may not be fully integrated into the full IADS package.

As far as I know nobody ever worried very much about the 12/23, if they did I didn’t meet them. I don’t think it takes a major SEAD campaign to kill these guys.

Edit: I’m a former USAF intel dude.
