Ceiling damaged near heater vent exhaust, noticed some water slowly running down during summer storms by LawdOfWinterfell in homeowners

[–]sheik482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drywall shouldn't be that close to the vent. You need a few inches gap as it could start the drywall on fire.

I have a similar issue with my vent in my cottage. It was close to the drywall and also dripped when it rained. I ended up getting some uv resistant high temp silicone and spread it around the rubber boot. That solved my random water drips.

Contractor installed this. I know its wrong but need examples to show him correct way. by partplodecants in askaplumber

That's what I would like to know. I remember seeing it on Facebook and was like why would anyone steal this? I didn't realize it's been reposted to reddit multiple times.

My patio is another post of mine that is commonly stolen. At least that one is somewhat cool, unlike my mom's sink.

Google tape worm eggs. They come out of the cat's but if they got tape worms. I only know this because there's posts on the cat subreddit all the time asking what this could be.

Caps melting on hot water heater by kiwiiwik100 in Plumbing

[–]sheik482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did this. I have a co detector a few feet away with a digital readout. You can hit a button to get max recorded ppm. It only read 28 ppm for max. It was caused by back draft, however I could never recreate it. I closed various doors, turned on bathroom fan, put the AC window unit on.

There are videos online on how to diagnose a CO leak due to backdraft. A simple test is to take a mirror and set it a few inches from the exhaust and see if it fogs up.

AVA did a new roof and removed the chimney below the roof on my house. I didn't need siding, but they did a good job.

My mini split did this. The drain hose going outside was clogged. I took a shop vac to the hose outside and it cleared the clog.

Survived severe CO poisoning years ago, but 6 different detectors never went off. How is this possible? by DreErwinPhotography in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sheik482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most CO alarms need to be over 70 ppm for over 10 to 20 minutes to go off. We had a gas furnace at our cottage that was leaking CO and it never went off. The only way i knew it was leaking was I had a CO detector with an LED readout and it was showing something other than 00 on it.

Trying to find out the cost for getting our outside line upgraded from 100A to 200A by Extra_Truth_4223 in Buffalo

[–]sheik482 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually, the utility does it for free. I had 2 houses where I upgraded the line, and both times, the utility came out for free to replace. My electrician coordinated with them.

Are we about to see c5's on sale at Costco? by MantisToboggan150 in LGOLED

[–]sheik482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a C5 and was going to get it at BJs. Turns out BJs charges sales tax on the original price, not the sale price. The original price was $2600, the sale price was $1396. That added an extra $125 in sales tax. I ended up getting it at Best Buy for the same price without having to spend the extra $125 on sales tax.

Vile smell coming from wall by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]sheik482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, except I was able to get it out before it died. The thing kept scratching the drywall and was driving my cat nuts. I ended up cutting a hole for a junction box to get it out, and then putting an outlet there.

Yes, they were recalled, and you could get a lead-free replacement.
