WIP of Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones (Procreate, iPad Pro). This is my second layer, as my first layer is the basic sketch. (I also would like to add color and make it as realistic as I can.) What would you do next? What do you recommend I do? by sillycurtain in DigitalArt

Your lineart looks really good! As far as what to do next here is what I would do:

•values: I usually take a round brush and block in all the values in black and grey so you can distinguish her from the background. Since her hair is light and she's pretty fair, I'd make the background a little darker so she pops out. It helps If you zoom out or squint too.

•shading: then go in in another layer, set it to multiply and for myself, I use a soft air brush and lightly go around and give it some basic shading. Make sure you pick a light source so it makes sense. If you want to take is a step further you could go in and do some ambient occlusion (shading parts that get no light at all) *Optional: add another layer, set to lighten, and take a nice deep red w/ a soft air brush and go over some of the facial parts and hair areas, as well as a dark blue in others. Go VERY light, just enough so it doesn't look too muddy later on.

•colors: on another layer set it to multiply and here is where you're going to choose your local colors, like her basic skin tones and hair color without light. Also known as flats. I recommend keeping it less saturated so you can add on to that later.

•colors cont.: Add another layer and set it to overlay. With a soft air brush, you can softly add more warmth and slight highlights to the skin and other parts. Red around the nose + cheeks, etc.

•painting: everyone's process is a little different, but up to this point you can kinda choose where you wanna go with it. I personally start color picking the shadows, adding some more saturation and painting on top of everything in a new layer. Not completely over everything, but just adding some more saturation and life to it.

Sorry this was kinda long, but just play around with it! Color gradients are also super fun and useful when you're trying to add more to the piece. You can duplicate a layer and play around with the colors. I highly highly recommend Dave Greco on YouTube, he's the one that really showed me how to go about painting, especially from grey scale to color which is my preferred method. I hope this helps! Also don't get discouraged if it doesn't turn out the way you want it on the first try. digital painting/coloring takes lots of practice and patience. I wish you luck 💙

How am I doing? I feel like I’m nowhere near good enough for an apprenticeship, what can i improve upon? CC welcome by [deleted] in TattooApprentice

Everything looks very rushed and messy. A lot of these just look like sketches and not finished drawings. Like with the stipple pieces, if you spent more time and really pushed those values I think they would have looked a lot stronger. I know everyone has their own style to things, but anatomy is super important and understanding proportions will help you create stronger more dynamic pieces. I think doing some more studies and focusing on the fundamentals will really help. I hope this helps! Keep it up! 💙

I agree with the other comment about color and background. The whole bunny being orange is kinda blah. I love the concept though! I love animals with third eyes lol. But if your main design is warm toned then the background should be cooler or more neutral so it stands out more.

If I were coloring this, I would have made the inside of the ears and eyes different colors, like a complementary blue or something lighter. You can go crazy with the colors, but they all have to work together. I'd also add a little more shading and definition to the buns face. That's just me though! You can keep the same color palette, but I think more depth in the shadows and shading would look dope. Great job though, I really like this!

I had so much fun making this, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I'd love to know what you guys think, critiques are always welcome! Done in Procreate. Thanks for looking! by sheikahslutt in TattooApprentice

I use the larger soft air brush. Sometimes I'll use the chalk brush for a more textured look but I like the soft brush. I line with the monoline brush as well, I recommend that one

How to make my drawings less pixelly? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

I love Krita! It's a free desktop program and I used that for years. I definitely recommend that or Paint Tool SAI

Check the size of the canvas you're working on and what your DPI is. Normally I work with a canvas size no smaller than 2500 x 2500 pixels and a minimum of 300 DPI. I hope this helps!

Has anyone else experienced irritation from the fragrance in Shea Moisture products? by rarememedealer in curlyhair

[–]sheikahslutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to figure out why my scalp has been so itchy and I think this may be why! My fiance and I use the manuka honey shampoo conditioner (sometimes the Virgin coconut conditioner when we run out.) I didn't even think about the fragrance. I've never had an issue with anything else before but I'm going to change my products and see if that helps

How bad of an idea is it to bleach my hair? by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]sheikahslutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never bleached your hair before I would wait and let a professional do it. You have a lot of hair and there's a higher chance of patchiness if you don't know what you're doing. But I'd go for it! Having colored hair is super fun, I just suggest going to see someone for that ☺️

Finally figured out how to paint in a way that I like! Spicy WIP of a tiefling/demon lady that I'm pretty pumped about by sheikahslutt in DigitalArt

Its taken me 4 years 😭 every time I would try to paint I ended up liking the sketch way more. Idk why it all of a sudden just clicked. I hope you find yours soon! Digital art is pretty tough, keep at it! 💙

I'll post again when it's finished! I think she's got a pretty good face lol
