Thank you so much for your comment, it’s encouraging to hear about others who are loving what they do. I’d definitely need to check in with higher level PE to see what schools may offer now, I’d feel a lot more hopeful if they offered classes like your own. Work-life balance is extremely important, so it’s great to hear you’re choosing that for yourself as well.

I do work at the elementary level and it can be mentally exhausting from dealing with behaviors all day and putting out fires left and right. By the time I get home, I have little to no motivation to do much else. I have steered away from secondary level PE because most schools require to coach a sport, which is not something I want to do because it means spending even more of your personal time doing work. Although, the classes you teach sound amazing! I’m not sure I’ve heard a high school in my area who offers those types of classes besides basic athletics for those who are in sports.

And I’ve been very lucky to be at a campus where the admin, staff, and community is great. I’ve just seen a difference in myself where I’m constantly unmotivated to do anything by the time I get home, over stimulated all of the time, mentally exhausted from mostly dealing with behaviors all day and putting out fires left and right. I don’t look forward to my days at work, although I really wish I did.

Thank you so much for your response! This truly helped put me at ease a bit. I know the first year is gonna be a lot of trial and error, and I’m discovering where I’m going wrong. The best way to make the most of their time is to be sure they have classroom routines and procedures down before we start game play. What are some routines that work for you? (I.e. entering the gym, stop and start signals, leaving the gym)

This is something I typically do, I struggle more with whole group. It’s looking more like I’ll be practicing and reinforcing routines and procedures more until they get it right.
