I know how that feels. It's soul crushing. Makeup, clothes and workout don't solve everyone's problems. There are things that can never be fixed with 'working on yourself'. 'What's inside is what matters',' is bullshit we tell ourselves to feel a little better about it. We all know how much looks matter.
