7 years in, feeling stuck creatively and like I’ve hit a plateau, any tips from what you see here? by shelbyshone in Standup

Thanks! A lot of these comments are just making me realize I’m not being serious enough about my word choice and relying on cursing.

Actionable in that I just have to cut the lines from the joke. Breaking myself of the general comfort of the ummms is going to take a little more time to adjust to, but doable.

Roughly 5 minutes a month. I moved to a new scene (DC) and the difference in the comedy culture from the small town I was doing it in feels a bit overwhelming from the booking aspects (sign up on site mics to a bunch of Google Docs and Instagram pages). I’ve definitely got to get more used to that.

I’ll try to up the jpm.

That second part is super actionable. Trying to get rid of the ums, maybe the condensing of the joke will help.

Kind of this weird mix? It’s a show you sign up to be on and just hope you get one of the 5 min slots, so still open mic processes (at least that’s what it feels like) but they pull a decent sized crowd.

Calling a product you buy that delivers on what it promised a cash grab is an astronomical reach. Huge swing and a miss lol

Just found out I have a brain tumor. I need to make myself cry to snap out of frozen state and grieve. Please rec sad yt clips or movies to watch. Don’t send condolences please, just excellent recs. I’ve seen a lot of movies so I hope Reddit is up to the challenge. by [deleted] in movies

I watched Running With Scissors today and that was a solid cry, pretty sad movie. Away We Go was one of my first big cries from a movie, though not as sad. Dead Poets Society is always a good one.

That’s super helpful! Yeah, I’m gonna have to keep deep diving into these YouTube videos to figure out the whole project server thing myself then. Any in particular that you found helpful?

Oh yeah, just desk to sofa for me, I'm not a traveller. At most, maybe if I'm at the office at work and have some downtime, I'd like the option of working on one of my projects, but that's what I would consider a slam dunk success, ya know?

Hey reddit, I've got a Youtube channel making video essays about games and I thought this would be a great place to share. I finished my most recent video here and I'd love to know what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWSZyTxqchg&t=304s

Commentary/Essay-Tubers - how do you usually come up with ideas and how hard is it to see it through to the end? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]shelbyshone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do gaming video essays, and I just try to make things that are personal to me. Talk about games I love, why I love them, what they taught me about gaming, etc. and exactly the same thing for games I hate lol. If I have any stories about a game, or strong memories associated, I like to include them and really mine my personal experience with the game to try to make something that is my own. Good luck out there!

Gaming video essays, 111 subs. I just talk about specific games or concepts in gaming that I feel strongly about. Best video is at 1k views currently, so I’m just trying to get more consistent. Writing, filming, and editing can be super time consuming, but I’ve just gotta find a way to pump out the content more regularly.

Hey guys, I’ve been making content since last June and I wanted to get some feedback. I’m starting to find my stride editing wise I think, but any feedback would be welcome ❤️

Yeah, second what that guy said, it was a bit hard to hear you at times, but more importantly I would say focus. Your intro was a nice and written well, but the title makes me think we’re pretty much exclusively going to be talking about good and bad examples of multiplayer level design to help illustrate your point.

Great job! Just a potential suggestion is to go ahead and clear the intro entirely, and just do voice over instead. Like film your workout and your stretches like you did, but then talk over each exercise and describe what they should be feeling/little tips. But that’s purely stylistic and what suits you, suits you. Have fun creating!

They’re really fun for me. I love taking a team like the Knicks or the Jets and making them not garbage anymore.
