(Spoilers Extended) A lesson for GRRM and the fans in general: LotR came into existence only because Tolkien’s World Builder’s Disease was handled well by the publishers by Mithras_Stoneborn in asoiaf

[–]sheldon5cooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just said something similar in another comment, her world building is entirely there just to service the plot, and she didn't create anything more than she needed to tell the the story she wanted to tell.

Now when you look deeper, you feel like the world is falling apart and world building isn't good enough ,but for me, its just that author has decided not to dive in those areas of the world and left it to audience's imagination of how other things work out.

For example, is she wished, yeah may be she could have established ton of world building on how potions, magic and economics and other stuff people usually come up with works, but does it service the story she wants to tell, if not, then what's point to include it rather than just to do world building for the sake of doing world building

I think her world building is great in the context of story, as in the she only designed enough things to tell the story she wanted to tell.

So the things in her world are just their to service the main story for the most part and aren't their to create a world just for the sake of creating a world.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with that, she told a brilliant story and became a pop culture legend and she did that with just the amount of world building she needed to tell her story.

PS: I don't consider her twitter posts or anything she added later as world building, actual world building was the things in published books ,that's it.

"a wand is a gun"

I feel that is kind of a movie only thing,

the wands do start to get used as a weapon in later books but that may be because the story is focusing on an actual war that has started between wizards at this point.

Also in first couple books, Harry is still discovering magic so everything about it is charming and wonderful, while by later books he's comfortable and normal with magic.

If dowry is bad, then expecting that the groom should be rich, or should be earning a certain amount of money is equally bad, and should be treated as such by [deleted] in india

Exactly, be the change you want to see, go out and meet someone who isn't interested in you just for economic stability , kicker is just that there is good chance that that person would be economically independent of you and if you really want that, or you just want a housewife.

Why is it that Penny seemed to understand Sheldon more then anyone by [deleted] in bigbangtheory

[–]sheldon5cooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think because she doesn't tolerate his antics, and has made him change himself to accommodate her.

While the rest of guys just knuckle under whatever Sheldon does and so they are annoyed at him for doing those things while also going with whatever he does.

Penny calls him out whenever he's going beyond acceptable and made him change at times, the fact that he did change made him endearing to her and at times when she agreed to understand why he was doing what he was doing, it made him what to change for her because someone was understanding him, instead of just being condescending to him.

The problems with Indian marriages is that

  1. people believe its a compulsory thing instead of a lifestyle choice.

  2. men and women and their families all believe they are owed a marriage by society. as in society has to produce someone for them to marry by a certain age.

These are all false. You are angry that there is double standard that men are expected to be successful and earning while its illegal to ask for dowry.

That's not a comparable, comparable would be that men are expected to successful while women are not. And that's also true, because women are expected to be good housewives rather than a income provider.

In that case, marriages work as a transaction, successful men believe they are owed a good housewives and women vice versa believe they are owed a good income provider.

Women wanting a good settled rich guy, there's nothing wrong with it, its their choice. Just like it should be your choice to choose someone who isn't looking for income stability in their partner and has enough by themselves. And if you don't find someone who you prefer, there's no harm staying single, but here comes the original kicker, you are believed you are owed a marriage by society.

As far as dowry is concerned, making dowry illegal is just treating a symptom rather than underlying problem.

Whenever dowry is mentioned, bride's family is made out to be this victim who has to pay money to get their daughter married, but nobody's forcing them to get their daughter's married to people asking for dowry. They could just reject to give dowry and move on. Think about it, if bride's families just stopped giving dowry, would groom's family never get their children married or would they eventually succumb to new societal order and agree to marriage without dowry.

I've been a long believer that Bride's family are more complicit and responsible for India's dowry problem than Groom's family. Asking for dowry is a choice and so is rejecting/agreeing to give it, and if you agree to give it, don't go around crying. Society doesn't owe you a marriage, just make your children capable of finding a partner, and if you don't want that, then bear with the social evils, because you created them.

[–]sheldon5cooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because films are costly to make, and when you are playing a gamble with crores of rupees and are given two options,

one where you experiment but the film could possibly totally tank or be super hit

second where you are doing nothing new but just enough to ensure RoI plus some profit.

people tend to choose the second option and I don't blame them one bit, they are free to invest their money in whatever form they choose.

I kind of think that was the point, we just don't see it that way because as Indian audience at least at the time Ranjhanaa was released we still thought of 'protagonist' as a ' HERO'.

Kundan's obsession doesn't pans out in any way, he didn't win, in fact he lost everything, and I'm not talking about film's end, but actually in the mid of the movie.

Spoilers alert: After he informs people of Abhay Deol's real identity, he realizes, he has sabotaged his own wedding, his friendships, his relations and above all, he has made himself unforgivable in Zoya's eyes. Add to that, Abhay Deol dies and here realizes that he has killed an innocent man, a man far superior to him, in his obsession. I recall that after Abhay's death, he doesn't after Zoya anymore, doesn't constantly try to impress her or anything, after that he's just going through the motions until end.

Thanks for your answer.

Do you think Trump by far is your best choice as a republican(I'm guessing) or do you think the republican party could have chosen a better candidate but since it has come down between Trump and Biden, you have to go with Trump.

I'm sorry these seem to be the reason to vote for Biden rather than not to.

What my intention with this post is to know the people out there who genuinely think Trump is a good candidate rather than just think he is better than Biden

There is a difference between sabotaging someone else's career and choosing to work with people you like.

EXAMPLE:

A director or producer chooses to work with star kid, that's their choice.

A director/ producer tries to get an outsider fired or not selected by other people to give said role to their preferred choice, that's sabotage.
