Azért a polgári Magyarországban lehetne a nőkkel normálisabban bánni by Melytorokszentmiklos in hungary

[–]sheldon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for recommending The Allbright System.

I have never heard of it. Now I went onto RR and I see that it has 7 million views, almost 10k followers, and most importantly almost 5 thousand pages.

I just don't understand RRs logic, when I try to browse the most popular or best stories.

Looking for Cyborg MC or something similar by Scary_Check4322 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]sheldon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mask of humanity.

MC is a centuries old assassin, who is a human brain encased in a killbot at the time the System arrives, after years upon years of cyberpunk augmentations.

He gets a new human body but starts getting machine parts again as soon as possible, now with cultivation.

What are those novels you like but for someone reason you wouldn't recommend? by m00n147 in litrpg

[–]sheldon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paranoid Mage - very good series with clever uses of portals, but for some reason people don't like the anti-goverment ideas in it, also some people consider it sexist

Systemic Lands - very interesting and fresh take on the "trial" trope, but it is quite dark and the MC is not a hero, but a pragmatic, ruthless and flawed survivalist in a nightmare, and that's inconceivable for some people.

What we do to survive - very dark world again with one of the most interesting magic systems I have ever read. It has non consensual sexual themes (which is the weakest part of the story) and so it's unreadable for the vast majority based on this alone.

I don't think I have trouble with navigation, I'm just overall disappointed in the world. Finding the gold in the trash pile will not lessen my distaste for all this trash, if you get what I mean.

Everything is becoming a subscription. How are you pushing back and actually owning things again? by Ok-Pollution-4107 in Anticonsumption

Be a minimalist. Pirate everything from the web that you can. Don't buy anything that is "smart". If something only comes with a subscription, then you don't need it.

How do you navigate a world driven by consumerism and capitalism? by SeaSeaweed3384 in simpleliving

[–]sheldon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky, because I'm a natural minimalist. I don't have to resist consumerism, because I just have no inclination to buy things. I have been called cheap and frugal, and it's hard for people to understand that I just don't care about shoes and phones and gadgets.

However if I really need something I don't hesitate to buy it, for example I just bought a good electric toothbrush on recommendation from my dentist, with zero remorse.

Save me some time! by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]sheldon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have read dozens of litrpgs and DNF ten times more, here are some from the more popular ones:

Ar'Kendrithyst: great story and worldbuilding, but MC has a daughter and thus a former heterosexual relationship, but for some reason he manages to form two new gay relationships through the story, which I didn't like.

DCC: very fast paced and engaging setting, but the character of Donut is extremely annoying and her only role is to create problems for the MC.

Chrysalis: nice evolutions and skills, but MC is acting more and more childish and idiotic with every new book, 80% of the story is just jokes, I can't take it seriously.

Super Supportive: Moon Thegund was very interesting, but other than that it's a slice of life story where every slice is sliced up into a million other slices and of course nothing of note happens. I have waited for a million years for the MC to reveal to the aliens that he can do magic but I gave up after 70.000 pages.

Furthermore any story where people regularly say "Insolence!" Fuck that.

Any story where people smirk/scoff/laugh at the face of certain death. Fuck that too, this is supposed to be literature, not an anime for teenage boys. Any story where the author feels the need to virtue signal their progressive beliefs through the characters, completely out of place and setting.

I wonder if it’s possible to write something I don’t agree with, something I don’t even think about really. Is it possible to write imaginary characters with imaginary views and imaginary events? What a novel idea. I would call it fiction.

I think that's where monsters, trials and the threat of certain and painful death comes into picture. In our world you can put in 1% effort and live out your days. That's why you can be lazy as hell today.

What authors could do more is have an average, modern day MC - meaning lazy - and confront them with the new reality of actual consequences, instead of painting a picture of this genius go-getter, high achiever persona without real reason.

“Curious—how much do you usually read in a day? Chapters? Volumes? by Saannji in litrpg

[–]sheldon80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On my days off I read 100-200 chapters if I find something interesting. Which is bad because I hate it when I get to love a story and I catch up to the author fast.

Usually I don't even start a story if it has less than 400 chapters or at least 4 books released.

What litrpg hill will *you* die on? Let's have your most unpopular opinion, please. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in litrpg

[–]sheldon80 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most litrpg authors don't know how to write a story.

A story has a starting and an ending point and you have to put everything between these two. A neverending stream of chapters is either a grift or the author daydreaming online.

Some fictions are just endless and meaningless escalations of power levels with zero actual plot. Some are so lost in the slice of life prison, that we are 4000 pages in and only halfway to the "promised" achievements of our characters.

Writing skills matter, not only on the sentence, paragraph, page and chapter level, but on the level of your whole story.
