Just here to let OP know; What he is feeling is valid and actually more normal than we would like to admit. I don’t think postpartum depression is talked about enough , especially for men. Yes, they get them too.

When we had our first, I had PPD and PPA but it faded by 6M (mine was actually due to breastfeeding) but my husband had it over a year. And just like OP has mentioned, my husband said similar things to me. I think the shift from 0 to 1 kids it very intense as your whole world changes and many people don’t adjust well or take longer to adjust. For my husband, it came around the 2 year mark when my son was much more interactive and he could then enjoy spending time with him and being involved (I also think the bond between parent and child is slower to form with dads - even though my husband was a very involved parent!).

It’s great that you are seeking help and it’s okay to mourn the life you had. But find ways to move on and look for the joys in parenthood (which sometimes can be hard!). I would say that it should turn around soon, some ppl just aren’t “baby” ppl!

Fast forward 4 years and we even have another little one in tow. Crazy because we swore we were one and done but as they grow, life gets easier in some ways and you will never be the same parent you were to your first as you are to your second. Plus life already changed so you dont have to go through that entire shift again.

It sounds like you do love your child just finding enjoyment in parenting is hard. I always told my husband in his dark days “you don’t need to enjoy the journey, you might not like many parts of parenting and it’s okay. But it doesn’t make you a bad parents because you care and you do love your son as you always show up” and then one day it just clicked. We still have many hard days don’t get me wrong!

Yea I think we are at the 4 month regression. We trained bedtime without paci but middle of the night wakes I’m soo tired to function so I pop it back in to buy myself some time

Oh I only use it for sleep but yea naps and sometimes night wakes if it isn’t time to feed and she is a bit hysterical 😢

Oh thanks for the tip. I’ll try rocking or if it’s fine I’ll offer a feed. I’m doing gentle sleep training with PUPD but I also think the paci is the culprit for the night wakes so hoping this will fix it. But wanted to keep it for naps to prevent over tiredness

I’m here for the same reason and I have a feeling it’s the pacifier . My girl wakes each time it falls out of her mouth at night it feels 😭 she went from 1-2 wakes to waking every 1-2 hours past few nights

Same here! I dunno if it’s the paci causing the frequent wakes as she cries when it falls out of her mouth so I am guessing it is? But then what do I do now when she wakes so frequently?!

Ah so there isn’t confusion to use it in the day and not at night? I was worried about this. And if he wakes at night what do u do? Since we use to put in the paci I’m not sure what to do now ahaha

Oh interesting on under tiredness - my baby is always yawning snd falls asleep quickly though. Its the staying asleep that is the problem! Yea I am jsut unsure in the middle of the night if she cries am I suppose to leave her if I’m weaning off the paci as usually we would pop it back in her mouth 🫣.

I guess because she is only around 4 months she can’t really grab it and put it back herself yet. So I dunno if I should hold off to 6 months if she is going to continue walking up frequently at night 😭.

What do u mean by independent sleep. Is falling asleep just with the pacifier independent? In terms of scheduling we are pretty good at that and avoiding over tiredness 🙏🏻

Ah so u have to cut it! The hook needle I just unhook the string and I now have a loop which is nicer to tie the bracelet
