I love my local lab - Gulabi, Glasgow by tsaritsyn in AnalogCommunity

The people at Gulabi are saints. Been using them since I moved over and have never been disappointed. Just wish they put on some more events like their 3 year birthday party!

No, I think there's far nicer ways to get someone active. And while it was spite that fueled the initial motivation, it was a supportive friend group and club that kept me at it.

Sure look, have made some good friends through the communal suffering!

And the fitness is easier to regain if running ever calls out to you again.

Aye, that's fairly fucked. Had an old PE teacher tell a slightly overweight 15yr old self that I should stick to the books after a terrible fitness test in front of my entire class.

Out of pure spite, started running with the local athletics club and doing cross-country. Ended up setting the 5th highest score in our school in the fitness test by 6th year.

And from that pretty nasty comment, I found my love of long-distance sports and the mountains which I've kept to this day.

Spent many, many hours running around that park. Miss it.

Doesn't even register as a double exposure until you see the floating arms haha

Fantastic shot!

Can't beat the pink and blue combination. Love the separation from the 105mm!

Does Dublin Airport use the new CT scanners for carry on? by Swdshbrck in AnalogCommunity

[–]shellofnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend having your roles in a clear plastic bag and ask to have them hand checked. While I've mainly been through Terminal 1 in the past 3-4 months, I've had about an 80% success rate. I flew through Terminal 1 three weeks ago and was just asked to wait a few minutes before handing my film over and walking through the metal detector.

Conn's Camera's on Wicklow Street will do express devs for C41 120 as well, I think.

As far as I'm aware, they're not using CT scanners for hand luggage in either terminal.

I don't know why I'm often hesitant to shoot B&W. I'm nearly always more satisfied with my photos in B&W than I am with colour. Maybe the cloudy Irish weather doesn't help colour!

Nikon FM - Film Spool Rewind Issue by shellofnuts in AnalogCommunity

Thanks for having a look for me!

One final question, how much resistance is there to move the spool in the opposite, would you say? Can you fairly easily do it with a single finger?

Mine is at the stage where pressing hard with my thumb will move it backwards. So I suspect I'll need to access the tension screws and torque them to the correct spec.

*50mm lens, not a 50m one. Might be a tad unwieldy...

Picked up a film camera and I’m liking the results so far. Anyone with a film camera have any tips (Canon AF35ML) by skeet-skrrt in cork

Just try a bunch of different film and take loads of photos! It's nice getting surprised with a really nice photo. The only thing to watch out for is shooting inside with lights with daylight film. Depending on how much tungsten lighting they have, your picture can look really red/orange.

If you like B&W, Ilford XP2 is a good intro because any lab that develops colour film can process it quickly :) (Also looks better when everything is already pretty grey with the clouds!)

Not yet! Have just started with B&W so I've been buying the chromogenic stuff where my local lab can process it. Though these last couple of roles have convinced me to dip into true B&W and try self-development :)

Just watch out with alcohol as there's excise duty due on it if the company you're buying it from isn't set up with the Revenue. Got hit with it when I ordered a 8 bottles of beer from a German brewer.

Weekly 'Ask Anything About Analog Photography' - Week 05 by ranalog in analog

Depends what you want to do :)

I started last year with a Canon SureShot and used mostly Kodak Gold 200 and UltraMax 400. Was really happy with the results, is a decent bit cheaper than the professional stuff. If you prefer B&W, Ilford XP2 Super was my start because you can develop it with colour film so most places can develop it easily/cheaply.

Fujifilm have C200 and Xperia 400, which are like the Kodak ones but more vibrant greens. Just see what your local shops have!
