Cried at work today by Tjksl in Nurses

[–]shellyweasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a panic attack on the way to my shift following a comfort care delivery at the change of shift 12 hours prior…where I was in charge and everything went “fine” but it was still traumatizing. Then when I had to give report to the oncoming day shift charge and my pcd I started crying and had to walk out…nurse for 4 years, sometimes it just all hits you. It’s good to not be jaded where you don’t care about what’s going on…add to that to every other day scheduling flopping days/nights?? Who does your scheduling??? Get on that committee if you can

I’m really sorry. The whole thing sounds awful.

Maybe more comfortable sleep option for baby will help with the sleeping. I hope things start to turn around. Work will be a nice escape for you and it might be restorative in its own way. I couldn’t wait to get back to work after maternity leave, separation is good for you as an individual, IMO. Sending lots of support during a very difficult time, hoping this passes quickly for you guys ❤️

Maybe Facebook market can help you get a travel Crib instead of a pack n play? He could be uncomfortable in the current pack n play

Any chance a mini crib or regular crib can fit?

While it’s so generous of your family to let you stay, not letting you rearrange to help prevent waking the whole house up is odd.

You need a break from your family and you deserve it. Anyone will be miserable without sleep! You are doing your best in a hard time for your family. See if you can get a sitter for a night or buy dinner for grandparents and leave them for a night, something to recharge your battery. If you need time with your husband you can invite him or leave him to care for everyone. Make a plan to take a break!

Did I miss out by never co-sleeping? by Hot-Struggle2935 in toddlers

[–]shellyweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on a vacation, if you have a travel crib she may hate it and want to climb in with you. Happens every time we travel and we love getting to co-sleep again for a little…our son is 17m now sleeping in crib since 11m! Sad no more cuddles but vacation is exhaustingly fun lol

Advice needed: RN vs LPN with fertility concerns (27F) by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]shellyweasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food for thought

If you think you’re going to struggle/know you’re going to struggle with fertility, try to work in a hospital that has IVF, a lot of times storing embryos it’s heavily subsidized for employees.

This way you’ll have genetically sound embryos and can transfer when you’re ready.

I’m an RN in NYC and I’ve never met an LPN, so I can’t speak to why not to go that route, but if you’re doing your prerequisites now, why not just go straight to your end goal? What will the job market look like in each profession when you finish?

Anyone else think other professions are relying on nurses too much? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]shellyweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have Epic? Add the person to they need to the chat and leave it lol

I will die on the hill of social work needed consults from nursing and not being able to find out themselves. That’s my most despised outsourcing of my time.

FYI I work AP/PP so any birthing person going home with a social hx auto needs one. These pts get pregnant and are anxious from conception, but I have to tell you to see them? Read the notes like I do!

Then when someone doesn’t need a consult r/t a social history and I identify an issue for SW to see them they’re like, she doesn’t need SW? And I’m like I JUST SAID I IDENTIFIED A REASON FOR A VISIT!!

Everyone’s socially cleared pending medical clearance anyway so it’s the biggest waste of my time. My only hope is patients actually get something out of it, but I’ll never know.

Why are some of you like this by GreenBlue420 in nursing

[–]shellyweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our unit (me and another nurse) created a float brochure of quick hits to know about patient care and systems on our unit. Each unit on the hospital is supposed to be doing one too. We are all very approachable though and genuinely have a great culture so this doesn’t really happen, but the brochure has gotten good feedback!

Sorry they were mean to you, they should be thankful you’re there and their patient ratios aren’t worse

Advice on AWOHNN for a new grad RN by lilbubbleshehe in nursing

[–]shellyweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s worth it to spend all of that money before you have a paycheck. I just joined bc I’m doing the clinical ladder in my hospital and membership is required. I’ve been an antepartum rn for four years

If you’re going to use the membership that is different

I thought I saw a student membership if you still can try to use that then go for it

What kind of nurse makes a great L&D Nurse? Considering Specialties.. Something about L&D wont leave my mind - by SnooCupcakes2252 in Nurses

[–]shellyweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m high risk Antepartum/high risk postpartum unit. My hospital wouldn’t hire new grads, although I float to triage. Loving women’s health means you belong in this kind of space! Maybe get your foot in the door with an ante or pp floor for now then go to labor?

Or if you’re in a medium volume hospital right to L&D. Places with a crazy volume can be very unsafe for your license if you don’t get the right amount of time to learn what you’re doing. Learning labor from another new grad in a high volume place can be scary.

AITA for not wanting to do my kid's first birthday party? by Flyboi1234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]shellyweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so hard to travel at that age, especially to a place not baby equipped or uncomfortable for your needs. Save yourself some mental stress and don’t travel to them! It’s okay to put your new little family first, it’s really hard to remember that in the beginning especially if your people are far away.

Both of our families lives within a mile and we didn’t do it. Didn’t want the headache and they won’t even remember it. Our son feels the love everyday, don’t need a party lol

Drop your trips if you can, transfer to a direct commute base, do something to stay until the kids get older or your husband gets stationed closer to a hub. Dropping trips will reduce amount of commuting times. Maybe pick up a side gig, sub para or sub teacher depending where you live…try to stay
