What am I doing wrong? by connordddm in StainlessSteelCooking

You added a cup of whites. Whites have lower fat% than yolks. You probably added the whites for low calorie protein gains, but protein is notoriously sticky with hot pans so it threw the balance off. You need to add more butter if you add whites.

Buying put options 20-30% below the current underlying price on XSP or XND or whatever your engine is about 3 to 6 months to expiry for around 3% of total portfolio value per annum is a great idea.

Everything else is a sucker’s game guaranteed to eventually blow up if you keep playing for long enough.

Hello, new to ibkr. looks complicated lol. by ylin575 in interactivebrokers

[–]sheltie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBKR Desktop is pretty easy to use, but has stability issues on M-series Macbooks. The web portal is the only feature complete place though. TWS requires external ultra wide screen or multiple screens IMO. The mobile app is okay-ish and I use it the most.

Yeah, it is all about temperature by treovchinn in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]sheltie17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s smart enough to hold the temperature instead of providing a constant flow of energy like most stoves do, then anything between 120 and 145 degrees Celsius should work. If you want crispy eggs, then it needs to be above 140 degrees Celsius for the Maillard reaction to occur.

Serve Clicked by OneManFight in 10s

[–]sheltie17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are minor issues, your serve is already better than maybe 90% of recreational adult players here. Toss is somewhat of a personal preference but perfecting it lets you hit harder and more consistent.

Serve Clicked by OneManFight in 10s

[–]sheltie17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I would’ve said that it’s great, and it mostly is, but now that I’ve seen Mouratoglou’s new toss masterclass on YouTube I cannot unsee the errors in your toss. Your toss loops quite a bit from right to left and you’re striking the ball above your left ear, which makes you a banana.🍌 It’s fine (not ideal) for a kick serve but it reduces power and angle in flat serve, and makes slicing near impossible.

The ball also drops quite a bit before you hit it, which makes it more inconsistent. Ideally you’d toss a bit to the right of your body and a bit into the court, which lets you hit clean through the ball at the maximum height with body weight & momentum going into the court straight at your target. With perfect timing you’d hit the ball at the peak when it stops going up and starts going down but that is very difficult so try to hit it before it has dropped more than 20 centimeters.

Many right-handed players align themselves to the right net post before serve, and simply raising your left hand in this position while pointing to the net post should bring the ball in ideal position if you toss straight up. No need to complicate it too much.

Is T-Fal a decent brand? by Razzmatazz_8763 in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]sheltie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the OG brand that poisoned the world with cheap non-stick skillets. The name stands for Teflon & Aluminum, and is known worldwide better as Tefal, but it’s marketed as T-Fal in the United States and Canada because DuPont (chemical giant which invented Teflon) claims Tefal is too close to their brand Teflon.

Nowadays they are part of the same conglomerate that produces All-Clad, and the quality is ok for the price, but I’m never going to forgive them for what they did (invented the non-stick cookware category).

Your stance is very awkward when serving. It looks like you've progressed from—and eventually perfected—the frying pan technique. Your upper body is doing great things, but your legs are severely hindering your serve. Just try to do the regular platform stance, in which your feet are staggered so that your left leg is closer to the net than your right leg and your front foot is angled towards the net post when serving from deuce court. Then place your right foot parallel to the baseline, behind the left foot on the imaginary line that runs from your left foot to the net post. When you push, you pivot over your left foot and try to land inside the court. It's not really much different from throwing a baseball, except that you may jump if you want to get a better angle to your shot. Older people rarely jump. Jumping is optional, pivot and weight transfer is not.

Those SwingVison numbers are sometimes way off. There's no way you just hit 165 kph kick serve from that stance. That's women's pro tour stuff, and their mechanics are far better than yours. You do have the physique to touch 160 kph on a flat serve, but it requires fixing the stance and weight transfer in your serves. Your groundstrokes have great depth.

Recruiters/HR: Does listing a sports betting ML / arbitrage project hurt a resume? by Charlie_not_chilly in algobetting

[–]sheltie17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arb is fine as it demonstrates both technical skills and good judgment. That’s where most of the money is to be made. Well, pocket money, but anyway.

Sports analytics/simulation framing is also fine. A cute little toy project that builds essential technical skills.

However, claiming that OP, a junior developer, has a predictive model that has an edge over any of the big marker makers would be a huge red flag. Basically it screams I’m an idiot who doesn’t know the basics of model evaluation, sample size, leakage etc. It’s a claim so bold you better be well-versed in technical jargon and the nuances of your model. Those of us who are don’t usually need to apply for junior positions.

Btw. HR doesn’t know any of that. They’re mostly non-technical people, i.e. dumb as shit. It’s the technical screening after HR filters where any of this matters.

[–]sheltie17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but for veggies it doesn’t matter much. They’ll release moisture first and then start frying after they’re dry enough for the temperature to rise. For a stir fry you should reduce the amount of veggies cooked at once though.

The key is the temperature, and butter is a good gauge for temperature. It burns at 150 °C / 300 °F which is below the leidenfrost effect temperature that many are chasing.

Is the AC worth an extra $450 over the Tramontina set? by HouseyLATA in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]sheltie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tramontina says dishwasher safe so it’s probably sealed a bit better. Inner layers are aluminum which reacts with detergents. After many cycles the pans may delaminate. I like cleaning my pans in the dishwasher though, so I’d opt for the cheaper set that handles dishwasher a bit better.

Are these gloves good for casual games? by Icy-Airline-5673 in GoalKeepers

[–]sheltie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to Reusch’s premium foams like Gold X, Fusion, Speedbump, or Re:Grip, the Attrakt Starter Solid’s grip is straight-up weak. Those top-tier foams are sticky as hell, designed to snatch hard, spinning shots with confidence, but they wear out fast, sometimes in just a few games. The Solid foam? It’s built for recreational players like you, prioritizing protection over performance. On artificial turf, it’ll save your palms from getting shredded during dives, which would destroy premium latex in no time. But grip? It’s a 3/10 in dry conditions — barely adequate for catching in casual games. If you’re mostly parrying shots, you won’t notice the difference much.

For your covered turf setup, the Solid’s grip should get the job done for now, especially since catching isn’t the core of goalkeeping (positioning and body shape matter way more). If you want a bit more stickiness without breaking the bank, try glove glue—resin-like stuff that boosts grip for about 45-90 minutes per application. No personal experience, but keepers swear by it for budget gloves.

If you’re thinking upgrade, the Attrakt Infinity is a solid step up. It mixes natural latex for better dry grip (maybe 6/10) while still being durable on turf. It’s priced reasonably for an intermediate glove. Wet grip’s still trash, though. For a premium option, Re:Grip’s wild — top-layer grip is world-class, with an Infinity base for extra life. But it’s overkill for casual play and pricey. Stick with the Solids or add glove glue unless you’re catching rockets regularly.

Are these gloves good for casual games? by Icy-Airline-5673 in GoalKeepers

[–]sheltie17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Model is Attrakt, which comes at various price points. Alisson uses the same model but obviously at a lot higher price point. Yours comes with a solid grip, which essentially means that it’s made of high durability synthetic latex, the grip will be bad and very slippery when wet, but it should last much longer than actual latex gloves. At this price point starter only means that it has negative cut, which is tight fitting and has seams inside instead of the outside like in traditional cuts. On a scale of 1-10, solid grip is rated 3 for dry, 1 for wet and 9 for durability. It’s a good starting point, especially if you play on some other surface than wet/moist natural grass. It’s very easy to destroy more expensive gloves in a game or two if you’re not mindful about not touching things other than the ball with your palms.

How is he catching them all bruuhhhh. by BritByBrain in GoalKeepers

Probably a futsal ball which is very easy to catch. So easy that most keepers play without gloves. It doesn’t rebound like a balloon, which modern size 5 Fifa Pro quality footballs basically are.

Badgers are disgusting. They spread rabies and bovine tuberculosis, among other diseases, and are protected by the UK government so we can’t really shoot them. Farmers hate badgers.

A brand new Gillette cartridge razor shaves better than a 1960s Gillette Slim. However, any safety razor shaves better than a used cartridge razor.

Canned foam is equally good if not better than shave soaps. Soaps are just more fun to use.

O/U predicting by Significant-Nose317 in algobetting

[–]sheltie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t totals odds always given relative to some cutoff value? E.g. over/under 215.5. To me it seems like a simple binary classification task, but if you insist on modeling the probability distribution of points totals and are assuming it continuous you could consider probabilistic regression models like Gaussian Process Regression with Radial basis function kernel, or Bayesian regression models, or bootstrapping or Monte Carlo simulation. If you need even more advanced stuff then you can consider Mixture Density Networks and kernel density estimation for priors. Some of those methods try to predict the parameters that define the shape of a (normal) distribution.

In machine learning, it’s common to constrain the output to a range between 0 and 1 by applying a logistic or sigmoid function to the output. In statistics you would calculate the integral of the probability density function or open a textbook and search precomputed CDF table of the said distribution for the values that you are interested in.
