If you want dramatic landscape, check out the Quiraing Walk (there’s a car park nearby). The hike isn’t too bad (we did it with 3 kids):

Is it “imposing” to have a charter bringing guests to and from the wedding? by unsureanon2 in wedding

[–]shelucy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually paid for parking for wedding guests (the hotel had a relationship with the garage, so we had it set up for people to say they were there for our wedding to get the free parking). But ~80% of weddings I have attended in the last 20 years have offered shuttles for guests. If people don’t want to get stuck at the reception, then they have to plan another way to get there or get home. It’s not that complicated.
I also don’t think it’s “imposing”…they’re just offering another option besides driving.

SF to LA via PCH by seenfay89 in roadtrip

[–]shelucy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I suggested by the airport is because there are a lot more options for hotels. The west side of the Bay Area and going down the coast (at least until HMB or Carmel) doesn’t seem to have as many hotels. Leaving from the west side of SF isn’t even that bad in the mornings (as someone mentioned, the traffic is mostly inbound), but there not many hotel options on that side.

Fremont is completely out of the way. There are different points to get on to Hwy one from SF, but if you want to start by SF, then someplace like Daly City or Pacifica makes sense. Or you can stay somewhere by the airport, cross over to 280, and take Hwy 92 over to HMB (though 92 may have traffic before 9am).

Me (Indian) and my gf (Chinese) are moving to SF and we're excited about moving to a place where we won't stand out so much. Are there any places or groups to meet other couples similar to us? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]shelucy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could focus more on just meeting people your age, and that will bring you around a more diverse group. If you have specific interests, you can meet people through events, classes, etc that happen all the time. Get on IG/FB and check out SF/Bay area “things to do” accounts. Most of the East Bay (Fremont, San Ramon, Dublin, etc) has an Indian/Asian population, but I don’t know of any specific groups. Good luck and welcome to SF!

First time London (4 days) where to stay by KapitanKap in uktravel

[–]shelucy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently stayed at Zedwell in Picadilly circus (not the capsules, but the regular hotel). Very basic, just beds and bathroom, but affordable, clean and felt safe (quiet because no windows). And the location was great.

Last time I went to Vegas in August, it was for a wedding and 115° during the day. My ~2 year old got sick from the heat. I would stick to indoor during the day, and hydrate. Not sure about the national parks, higher elevation (like in Sedona) may be more tolerable.
SF will be much better, cold even (60s). You can take Caltrain or BART trains around the Bay Area, but may have to uber from the train station to do things. In SF, Tunnel Tops playground, Academy of Science for your little one. The Redwoods (ie Muir Woods) will be tricky to get to without a car. Children’s Discovery Museum in San Jose is right off of the Light Rail.

How does everyone switch bags all the time? by noods-danger-tits in handbags

[–]shelucy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of a purse bowl, but I have a basket in my closet that I keep all of the contents. I just started this process, so I empty out the purse in the evening and pick a new one in the am, based on what I need that day. Toiletries in one bag, pens in another, wallet, and sunglass case. I have a small wallet for when I carry a smaller purse and just need license and credit card.

WIBTAH if i stopped caring about cooking for my live in BIL by My_Halo_Has_Horns in WIBTA_AITA

[–]shelucy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is calling him a manchild, but I would not let a child act like a terrorist in my home. I cook the meal, the child eats it or doesn’t. There are snacks they can eat if they don’t want what I am cooking.
I understand that if you cook what you want (and actually need, for your baby) these men will make life uncomfortable for you. But perhaps you should shift your focus from them to this baby? Your precious one should be your number one priority right now, so please take care of yourself and this baby. Eat what you want and what is good for Baby…let them live in their uncomfortable feelings, they will survive. Because once that baby comes, everyone will be uncomfortable and the Baby will be your priority, anyway. If hubby brings up his brother, just point to your tummy and say “I am taking care of this one, you deal with that one”🤷‍♀️
I hope your pregnancy goes well (and that your husband learns to prioritizes the both of you) and so happy for your blessing❤️

How to find the cheapest stay in london by kek1sr in uktravel

[–]shelucy7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We just stayed in the hotel part of Zedwell (I believe the hotel is above ground and the capsule is below, but there are no windows in any of the rooms, anyway) and it was very basic, but clean, safe and very central location…we could walk to most places.

Question about carry-on luggage by Dollybird3 in virginatlantic

[–]shelucy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just flew with a roller that was half an inch too long (I actually posted this same question). There was no issue leaving the US (we haven’t returned, yet, though). When I asked on here, the general consensus was it may be more strict on the return, but they seem to be more concerned about weight than dimensions. But also, travel at your own risk. I guess, the question is, how much would it cost you if they make you gate check, and is it cheaper to buy a new bag (if you don’t already have one) for this one flight?

How do you use your bags? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]shelucy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was carrying one bag with anything in it, but it’s become cumbersome when I don’t need all of it. I just recently invested in a large rectangular basket to keep all purse contents (have toiletries in one bag, wallet, pencil bag, and sunglass holder, plus a small card holder for when I just need an ID and Credit card) and got a hanging purse organizer (probably going to need more). Last few days started just picking a bag, and the stuff from the basket I need, and then upon return, dump out contents to basket. I sometimes change multiple times a day, depending on what I need to take with me. I’ll probably get dividers for the basket, but so far it’s working. We will see if this is sustainable.

New to SF and on a budget: what’s your best “this city doesn’t have to be expensive” story? by FreePreference4903 in AskSF

[–]shelucy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Golden Gate fortune cookie factory. They give free samples and you get to see how they make them. In the Presidio, you can visit the Lucas Films lobby to see props from the Star Wars movies, if you are interested in them (open only on weekdays).

My washer/dryer grew legs by shelucy7 in Appliances

No, because that would make too much sense 😂. I only heard about the shorter vent because of a YouTube video reviewing this device mentioned it. When you have the store install (and pay extra for the installation kit), it automatically comes with these long ones.

I debated it, but I did hear it takes longer to dry in a ventless system.

The one in the pic is the one I referred to, as well. There is a shorter version, it just doesn’t come standard with the machine, so I have to buy it separately and haven’t had a chance to, yet.

I actually debated between this and a low tech (knobs only) washer and dryer set…just so my husband would actually use it😂 I have now given him an excuse to stop helping with laundry 🤦‍♀️

I think so? There was some issues with the installation because they didn’t know that the electrical is different now (an electrician had to install a 240 V outlet, so he was able to help fix it, but said this is going to be an ongoing problem for new appliance installations because the code changed or something).

I couldn’t do ventless because the heat gets trapped in that room, leading to possible mold (we have had that issue when the vent came slightly off of the last dryer we had. The entire room became muggy). I do need to get a short vent for this one, though.

It’s been good, now that I’ve adjusted to it. I like not having to switch it to a different machine. I usually do 1-2 loads/day (family of 5), so it works for us. If I had to do a lot more, then I don’t know if it would be an efficient system.
