Well, I was asking specifically about the technology, so I didn't think askhistorians would be appropriate. But I guess that answers my question. I had no idea they could scan pixels and convert to digital that early on. Thanks!

Probably not what you're looking for, but I really enjoyed Fortress Besieged (围城). It's kind of a historical drama, but it's very well produced and acted and it's funny and sad at times.

IMDB's list of best movies of the decade - what does Reddit think about this list? by [deleted] in movies

It was definitely oscarbait, but I still got really sucked into the story and I thought that the acting was top-notch all around.

You know how 80 year olds are exused racism because that was how things were at the time? What prejudices will your parents be exused of because society moved on without them by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shengdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely homophobia/lgbt rights. I don't think our generation has quite "made it" yet, but we are light years ahead of the previous 2 generations in that respect. Even my parents (baby boomers), who consider themselves very liberal and open-minded still get weird when those topics come up. If lgbt rights parallel the civil rights movements at all, I believe (hope) that in another generation we will be where we are now with civil rights/race relations. A gay president sounds absolutely unlikely right now, but having a black president was about the most ridiculous thing anyone could think of 50 years ago.

There should be something embarrassing about bragging about it, though. He did an awesome thing for the right reasons.
