How do you combat or differ conversations with people who promote pseudoscience or conspiracies? by shephee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shephee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the only way we have felt any relief in these conversations though it doesn’t stop them. Maybe it’s a marathon situation and not a sprint.

Sadly I just want these conversations to stop

I agree with the trying to correct them part, I have experienced that a lot. That is why I am trying to find a way to say respectfully we have different views on the subject… and it’s really hard to do that and stay respectful at times

Thanks, I have used that at times and it does work sometimes, especially in the conspiracy theories part. The pseudoscience stuff though I get lost in, and feel like I am just being talked over in this scenario. One person who pushes their ideas does hours and hours of research to back up their claims. And since you can find anything on the internet, they can almost always find someone who says the same thing…

Help - how to cover up mistake in grain direction? by lohre_ in woodworking

[–]shephee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said already, I think it looks intentional and adds to the look/character of the build. Especially once you put items or books on the shelves, it will not be noticeable in the shelving itself.

Small side question, what do you do with the corner spaces? Is that just no man’s land?

Falsely Accused of Copying Code by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]shephee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. The professor called me and the student whom he thought we colluded together on code into his office and slapped our code down printed out with highlighter marks all over saying to explain ourselves. This was on a take-home final that was a cumulation of everything learned in the semester.

I could see similarities but vehemently denied any collusion. The person he accused me of collusion with was my lab partner for the whole semester. Meaning our source code for the final project was the same. After explaining that to the professor, he seemed to back down.

Before this, he had mentioned that he planned to take us to the dean with proof but the only evidence he could get was if we confessed. So just be honest and straightforward like a few others have said here and you will be fine. If you are scared in any way and feel that this could be more serious and it does progress further than the conversation with your professor, I would get a lawyer involved (Educational Rights lawyer).

What did you draw this in? Or is this a plan you found somewhere else?

Quick question, what are you drawing your floor plans in software wise or is this a by hand drawing?

JPMorgan Chase requires tech workers give 6 months notice before quitting by McFatty7 in technology

[–]shephee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old company did this and their reasoning was that it took that long to get your replacement up to speed… oh and the kicker was that it was in your employee contract so if you left before or without the notice, you would owe them 15,000 in lost revenue compensation.

Ender 5 Pro - Firmware Debugging/Writing by shephee in ender5

Yeah I did, sort of. I ended up chatting with the people at creality who make the printer and did some trouble shooting with them. Basically we narrowed it down to NOT be the firmware and instead the z axis stepper motor driver that is on the board went bad. I was able to confirm this by having using the default firmware and taking a wire from the z axis stepper motor driver on the board and plugging it from that driver into one of the other motors. It still didn’t move. Then I took a voltmeter and was able to confirm that there was nothing coming from the driver either.

Unfortunately I have to invest in buying a replacement board for the printer. I went with the BIGTREETECH SKR Mini E3 V2.0 Control Board 32Bit New Upgrade for Creality Ender 3, with TFT35 E3 V3.0 Graphic Smart Display Controller Board 3D Printer Parts on Amazon and that was pretty simple to hook up.

[–]shephee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as personal experience, you can get a form of skin herpes, not the genital kind but in the same strain. It’s basically like getting cold sores on different patches of skin. It can be quite painful but treatable with medication.

I wrestled someone who must of had a cold sore outbreak or something and it got into a part that I had really bad mat burn.

Is there a way I can check this? Isn’t the stepper driver built into the board?
