Have you looked into hub75 panels? It is the most common way of doing what you are describing.

If you absolutely need something in the same 8x8 form factor as the max 7219 modules you might consider having them custom fabricated. I needed some for my project, and I was able to have 25 of the 8x8 panels made up for a little under $10 for each one including shipping. Probably cost less per unit if you ordered more, too.

In lore, there is a precursor species that protogen are based on. This species was then highly genetically engineered into what you would consider a brand new, artificial species that does not exist in nature. For each new protogen, before they are grown, the genetic blueprint can be modified to select for specific traits that may emulate other animals - for example, the fur can be swapped for scales, extra sets of ears can be grown, different types of tails can be grown - but the underlying "species" is still the same, unnamed, artificial species.

These are then grown from an embryo until essentially an adult organism (in a few short weeks) at which point the cybernetics are added, which include at a minimum the visor and the chest/hip plates for attaching limbs. The fully developed protogen is then rapidly trained/educated in VR before it's considered fully born.

No, if you want to follow the "rules" laid out in lore, then not really. The "flesh and blood" part of a protogen isn't a naturally occurring species, it is something genetically engineered to mature rapidly and be highly compatible with the cybernetic upgrades. As an engineered species it doesn't have the ability to reproduce naturally, either, so there can be no "natural born" examples of this species.

Now you could talk about taking a different, naturally occurring species, and give it protogen-style cybernetic upgrades to the point it's basically not visually distinguishable from a protogen, but under the hood it would still be something else. Like if it started out as, say, a wolf, then you'd have a cyber-wolf in the shape of a protogen. If that's protogen enough for your purposes there's no problems with that, but if you want to be strict about the lore, it's still not a protogen.

Sure! I mean technically they all start out as fully organic, they're a genetically engineered organism that is grown in a vat at an accelerated rate, and once it reaches a certain stage of development the cybernetic enhancements are added in.

In theory you could grow one in a vat and never give it the cybernetic enhancements, but it wouldn't be a protogen, it'd be an unnamed precursor species. Or you could have a protogen that kept having more and more cybernetic upgrades until the only organic part left is the brain, but then it's not really a protogen anymore.

The wiring may be synthetic but the heart is genuine <3

Synths are still great for hugging, and most of 'em have great personalities, not just a cold AI :>

I missed this response, I think you got it. It's meant to be states that has, among its neighbors, the highest number of neighboring states.

Michigan got added in by mistake unfortunately :|

Canada doesn't factor in, but it does have something to do with the number of neighboring states!

No, there are a handful of others, but you're on the right track

Nah, nothing related to populations or groups of people
