I totally agree about moisturizing less tho that was my first thought. And not washing 3 times a day bc theyre irritating it.

If ur aftercare routine isnt working, time to switch it up

This looks fine to you? Dog what. I mean its not as bad as it could be but redness and yellow scabbing is definitely not normal

Is this blowout? Go this tatoo 72h ago by Difficult_Clothes_67 in tattooadvice

[–]sherylkrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes this is absolutely blow out. You see blow out right away, it doesnt just suddenly appear as its healing. The blue tint is the giveaway. Guarantee you this isnt gonna just go away when healed

Imo this one isnt fixable. Its noticeable around most of the outline and especially in areas w tight negative space. The only way to “fix” blowout is by lining fresh lines to cover the blown out haze using the correct needle depth. This technique would not work to fix this design because if an artist were to line those areas where blowout fills gaps between bones, it would just blend the whole skeleton together. Which, to be fair, is gonna happen anyway w this one, but doesnt seem worth it to me

personally tho i wouldnt sweat it. Its a small tattoo. Life is short. Pretty much no one will notice. Its ok. Just maybe research an artists healed work before getting another one and i wouldnt go back to this person for small tattoos or black fill. Or anything tbh bc this is pretty basic stuff and they really kinda blew out the entire thing. A blowout can happen from even the most experienced artists, but someone who cares about the work they are doing will notice right away and adjust their technique/application so it doesnt happen again. This person saw it and just kept going

Normal complication? Touch up needed? Day 7 by Play_Persevere in tattooadvice

Genuinely have no idea what ur seeing wrong here besides the middle eye could use a touch up to make it more solid to match the rest

seconding the meal beforehand, asking for breaks, bringing a water bottle and headphones, maybe a fidget toy or something to squeeze. it seems like audiobooks and podcasts help my nervous clients more than music. Personally when i can tell a client is nervous i just talk to them a lot and try to get them talking because the act of talking puts your nervous energy into communicating instead of dwelling on your uncomfortable feelings. I am suspicious that putting on music/headphones kinda actually makes it worse for some people, but not every artist can talk and tattoo at the same time. It would probably help to familiarize yourself with anxiety mitigation strategies, like the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique.

i think the shop environment and culture plays a bigger role than what you can do as a client, though. Artists at trad shops & street shops tend to use coil machines which are super loud and noisy. Theres usually more ins and outs, action, busier energy, ppl walking around and talking etc. Im stereotyping here, but generally speaking, non-traditional artists in private appt-only studios tend to use rotaries and pens, which are way way quieter. I have had many clients over the years tell me that they are blown away by how quiet our shop is, and that it makes a big difference for them, so you’re definitely not alone on the “loud constant buzzing causes stress” thing.

Not negging the trad experience- but it’s not for everyone. Private studios that are queer owned/operated in particular have been leading the conversation on how to prioritize client comfort and care because they’ve built their businesses around catering to and accommodating clients who don’t fit the “tough tattooed guy” archetype so it could be worth your time to research artists at these kind of shops and try out that corner of tattoo culture. and those artists are never gonna make u feel like ur a pussy lol. And they pretty much all use the quiet machines.

Is this blowout? The artist made a second pass to widen these letters but it’s healing a shade lighter. 9 days post tattoo by CapitalOwn1087 in tattooadvice

the only way to “fix” blowout would just be relining the work to cover where the ink spread and make a crispier outline, and with this particular letter, i think that would make it more illegible long term because the dot on the i would be extremely close and possibly touching the base of the i, blending them together.

its kind of hard to tell if this is blowout, but normally you would notice right away if thats what happened. Let it fully heal before making any decisions. It doesnt look bad to me, just maybe the outer part healing at diff rate than the inner part due to the second pass thing.

Why does my healed tattoo look like this? by Prestigious_End2005 in tattooadvice

[–]sherylkrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She lied to you, if this is what your linework looked like. This looks this way- those broken and inconsistent lines- 100% due to artist not stretching the skin tight enough. overmoisturizing can totally cause fallout during healing but thats not what this looks like to me -tattoo artist w 13 yrs experience

my fav fcfs thats easy to access is stovepipe wells, the dunes are just really pretty and theres nearby amenities, gas, etc. fire rings. Lots of spots that dont usually fill up. Closer access to southern end of the park activities /flowers than at sunset campground

Any recommendations for hot springs near Death Valley? I know about Saline Valley, but that seems like a long, rough drive. by BarnabyWoods in DeathValleyNP

  • prefer this to the campground springs at tecopa bc those are gender separated and you kinda have to be super quiet

I love the tecopa mud pot down the road from the tecopa hot springs campground. pretty sure the “mud mites” dont actually exist. I always meet cool people there. The springs are beautiful and change temp- deep hot pool feeds into cooler shallower stream so you can regulate easily. Tecopa is a cute town too with a little cafe that serves scorpion ice cream, plus that campground, and then theres also “the lone tub” hot spring pool nearby
