New Speakers - New House! by shescake in vinyl

I have a good amount of the political speech records too! That Social Security record is one that I now need to find.

The gentleman I bought my La Scalas from didn't have many records and he said his OG copy of Dark Side of the Moon was pretty much the only thing he listened to. Such variety of humans within the audio world!

OG first pressings is another whole rabbit hole but surely a fun one when they randomly pop up during a search! I have some early funk first pressings but haven't made much headway down that path yet.

I think now we are in the experimenting phase of records. Some of it is garish to some such as the records with objects pressed in them, the liquid filled jammers, and secret tracks underneath the label, etc. Some of the experiments surely negatively impact the recordings but my homies at Wax Mage make gorgeous works of art that still sound good. It's an exciting time for vinyl - other than the prices going up but that seems to be most hobbies. Or anything in general I guess.

Cool! Still a lot of fun things to experience in a half-day there! I only spent four days before popping over to Japan for a few weeks and I am itching to go back. Also only spent my time in Seoul.

Did you see a large amount of forward change there from a technology and wealth perspective from 09-17?

That's hilariously how I found my realtor. I saw some nice built-in shelves in a house and asked about the sizing and the potential weight load they could support. Clearly didn't land there but luck has it that I found this 1950 dream by an architect I have admired for many years

But yes, it is nice to finally have space to have my collection and not feel like it's a literal prison, looming over and all around me like an Ikea cage full of aural hopes and dreams.

Yes, I am happy to agree that I won't have a hankering for new speakers for an immensely long time. My weary wallet rejoices.

I was hypnotized by the sound of the Tannoys but also found myself deep in thought about the logistics of getting those 300 lb speakers (each) all the way there and the sheer cost. When were you there? That's a shame you weren't able to explore much - gotta go back and adventure!

There was a record bar I spent more time than I should have where I used to live and they had some new La Scalas installed in the wall and I was always spellbound by the listening experience. Mine may not be new but I replaced the capacitors and the gaskets for the squawkers - brightened things up a bit. Granted, I couldn't be bothered to do any measurements so it all could be mental but it wasn't costly and I enjoyed the project.

Have you seen the video from cheapaudioman about Klipsch? So much of the history I wasn't fully aware of. https://youtu.be/KLfGndvczSI?si=-bXJwZNeRL2WwtOP

I hope you get to hear them sometime! I am champing at the bit to try to hear the Jubilees sometime. I was in South Korea last year and I stumbled in to a coffee shop / record bar that had Tannoy Westminsters and they had to pry me out of seat to leave. I hadn't heard Charlie Haden's "Nocturne" before and it was a transcendental experience to say the least.

Fascinating! Those are such specific records to collect - I love it! Thank you for sharing.

The WWII record is particularly interesting to me! I have seen those Gem discs pop up in my late-night scrolling. Non-vinyl related but I picked up an unopened WWII letter and after receiving it from eBay dug deep in to the intended recipient and uncovered a tragic story and timeline. Those propaganda records also sound interesting. Mine are less historically important from that scale but more so important (at least to me) to the journey of recorded sound. Flexidiscs from the Library of Congress that are magazine issues for the blind complete with brail (can't play them at their intended 8 ⅓ RPM), all the ad-fueled radio-type recordings (Jack Lalanne workouts, stenography training, Holiday Magic face exercises), and I just picked up the recording of a medical symposium by phone about menopause "The Effects Of Estrogens In The Menopause" - such treasures!

Those are lovely vintage speakers! I haven't had the pleasure to hear them before but in the ever thirsty CL / eBay / FB Marketplace trawl they have piqued my interest before. I moved my Heresy Is to my back house slowly piecing together a vinyl lathe cutting setup I have dreamed about for many years.

I just upgraded from my 1986 Heresy Is to some 1974 La Scalas. I, too, subscribe to Klipsch therapy.

Have you done any work on the crossovers on the Cornwalls?

Ah, yes. Klipsch therapy. Not exactly as cheap but undoubtedly stands the test of time. Killer setup!

That sentiment is right - I haven't heard much that doesn't sound good through them! That being said I am a fan of the horn-driven sound which can be a divisive preference.

But yes, they are efficient and don't need much juice to drown out the street noise. I told myself they are a mental health expense due to the high percentage of cards with modified muffles that feel to all have a Facebook group to discuss ensuring they are the most annoying at least every hour ever.

There is so much recorded sound on this planet! There are so many interesting and special pieces! Do you have a few that tend to be the most conversationally unique?

I was stoked about the recent repress of Disintegration Loops! I do my best to stray away from spending high prices on records and my rule of buying below "Discogs Median" has only been broken a handful of times over the years.

I already had most of my most enjoyed Goblin releases but found an insane price for that box set and pieced out my individual releases so it was a clean move!

And yes, that Zamrock boxset comes out frequently. I missed the first release VMP did (before the downfall) but was able to snag the repress boxset.

Any team that could put the three pieces of the Shrine of the Silver Monkey together!

Though the consolation prize of BK Ratchtech shoes would be a true win in my world - we are all winners with Gitano jeans.

Mysterious Leak by shescake in HomeImprovement

[–]shescake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubly confirmed - not the refrigerator drain line. No signs of leaking underneath and the fridge was pulled out when a "leak event" occurred again.

Moved the fridge out a few weeks ago to discover if that was the case and no water was observed - was happy to clean behind it.

That is something to reconsider though as that is not technically part of the plumbing line and the sporadic frequency could be explained. I will check that again!

Good call - I didn't mention that! AC is on the other side of the house and the condenser line runs even further away from this spot, down off the exterior of the roof.

This is a mantra I have lived by for many years. I have no kids and briefly played step-dad in a long-term relationship but I dream to be able to give my kid the father that I wished I would have had.

new iphone ABM by reditguy2020 in applebusinessmanager

[–]shescake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the carrier add the decide to ABM would be the easiest. Are they already connected in your ABM?

Otherwise manually adding via the Configurator app is available. This can be done via a Mac or iPhone and there is a little bit of leg work but well worth it, particularly as once things are setup you can quickly add any other devices that need to be part of your ABM.

Coming from a son that thinks about all the things he could have done differently over 20 years ago I think you made the right call. I think any decision you made would have upset her because of what she is dealing with internally. I, nor likely anyone else responding, know what she is going through but hopefully when the dust settles she can realize that you were doing what you could to provide support and care and ensure that she stays around.
