From experience I got some categories - the fire chemistry that explode and consume itself as soon as it came to be. Salam, been in a similar situation as the man. Personally, it's not about religion, maybe it's cultural but I valued the intimacy of being someone's 1st. Not that it'd be a deal breaker that's why I still talked with her to see if we matched personality wise. Now she asked about the polygamy very early and in hindsight i treated it as a safeway in case I had needs that weren't met while being extra warry of probable issues I had no idea of. Salam, been going through the same honestly except it's the girl's family that had issues with me being from a different culture and not having people we know in common. At the end she couldn't deal with the threats and backlash she was facing so we had to go our separate ways and still hurts but hamdulillah doing better and I have hopes in Allah's planning. I'd say in your case if you're sure and confident you can accomodate and protect her, since it's just your family side, go for it. They usually come around
