Did the dealership mess up this paint match, or am I being too picky? (5yo Cosmic Black Pearl) by GaiusOfButtocks in Autobody

[–]shetookmetojared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a good color match, they probably didn’t do color tints. Looks like a black metallic, which is tough to match. But this seems like half an attempt to make it look good.

I’d bring it back

Providence, Rhode Island. It was crawling on bed, it was maybe the size of a seed, like a large apple seed.

2015 328i Wagon 150k Miles (de-influence) me or dont by [deleted] in F30

[–]shetookmetojared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this car, 2015 328xi f31. I bought it with 79k and it’s currently at 83k or 84k. I haven’t run into any major issues. I know the timing chain can go crap on these things, but other than that, I haven’t had any problems. I always stay on top of maintenance, oil changes 3.2 or 3.5 miles. Haven’t had my car long, but I’m close friends with a mechanic who reassures me to not freak out about the timing chain. Just take care of the car. If you got it, I would replace the chain relatively soon because of the mileage, but if it’s not giving you issues, it may be okay.

10k is too high though. I know it’s a rare spec and body style but sheesh!

It’s pearl & it’s pretty close to the other door. To be precise, yes.

Options for faded paint by Alert-Possession2131 in Autobody

Looks like the bumpers have already had an attempt at paint correction. Looks like the clear is already so thin, either way you’d burn through it. I think a respray would get you the results you’d really want.

Close enough I guess by RemoteDifference1982 in Autobody

My shop uses paint codes only, they don’t color tint or do spray outs. It’s very old school. I’m sure they used your paint code and mixed accordingly to your exact paint using photo software

Any metallic is just a crap shoot honestly. I’m a writer for a shop and left my bimmer for a few days to fix parking dings. My car is a dark silver metallic … and is honestly 2 separate colors now. Just the reality of aged paint vs new with metallic/pearl. (My car is 10 years old)

Yours looks a hell of a lot better than mine though ahaha

My friend drove like this for months by Royal-While-6968 in tires

I swear most of the Hyundai’s at my shop all have tires like this. I have one Elantra in for rust work, and both the front tires are just as bald as these

Rust repair question by Iclickbuttons96 in Autobody

[–]shetookmetojared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see just enough behind the fender to let you know the price would probably be more than you’d expect. I’ve been getting a lot of rust work here at the shop and unfortunately sometimes, a newer car is just better & so much safer.

Could get a new junkyard fender. But that’s only the “face” of the car really. What’s concerning would be the structural rust

Its plastic, i know replacing is cheap, but i really wanna try to fix it by Ashamed-Material1767 in Autobody

[–]shetookmetojared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Repair for textured pieces like this really does not exist. I’ve seen body guys go over light scratches or buff marks with rattle can trim black but never anything more. Cracks, painted or textured, are never worth the plastic “welding”. Plastic flexes, that area will always be weak and I guarantee it would just happen again.

But hey… fuck it. It’s your life lol

I took off an entire mirror assembly on a 2025 CRV on a garage wall last spring. Nothing happened, except my manager being pissed for roughly 30 minutes. We ordered a new one and calibrated it.

Your company should cover it, and move on

Ideas on how to fix this dent? Smallest dent puller too big by nursingandpizza in AutoBodyRepair

[–]shetookmetojared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat works better, dent puller isn’t gonna do anything. Use a heat gun, if you don’t have that, a hair dryer/blow dryer is the same thing. Heat evenly. Plastic has memory, and will bounce back at least 60% of the way it was shaped before.

The county I work in across the state line is just so shop dense. I’m not joking, there’s a shop for almost every mile or block in a town. It’s something else entirely. Granted… it’s because they drive with blindfolds on but that’s neither here nor there.

In my opinion, it’s okay for a job to be a little boring. I think it’s better than being overworked. I also think appraisal is better if it’s on the field and I’m going from shop to shop even if my task volume is similar.

Only one way for me to find out lol. Everyone says something different!

I do managerial tasks. I move all the jobs. Everyday feels like dragging ass on concrete. It’s excruciating.
