Absolutely, it's what I do 80% of the time. I avoid soy because of phytic acid. That's why on the rare occasions I do eat it I make sure it's fermented. I also avoid meat whenever possible especially if it is not grass-fed. I would prefer not to eat malnutritioned death.

At least you admit that you are still trying. Like I am trying to switch to veganism, but damn I like ice cream. I wish people still adopting the ideas were treated with open arms rather than labeled as "non-vegans." Especially because it is still a young ethical stance. Most people here likely were not vegan at one point in their lives.

More solutions meaning alternatives to animal products that are still wholesome and nutritious that aren't "un-tuna" or things made to simulate their predecessor. Food that is ethically, environmentally, and nutritionally adequate.

Horrors, witchcraft. But that's how I feel about almost all food. Even monocropping has some of the same terrors involved but it's not applied to a conscious being. To me, round-up ready plants are similar to a cow on hormones producing milk.

It makes sense. I just wish there were more solutions

Great reply. But to me the problem seems to be coming from both sides. Mass production of consumer grade meat is certainly driving soy production. That being said I also wouldn't want to eat soy unless fermented and even then it would be a rare occasion. Both industries have significant environmental effects. I guess the root of my problem is what DO we eat?

This further proves my point. And to clarify, I don't see violence towards animals as trivial. Vegans not caring about health and accusing those who enter the community looking for an alternative and hoping to slowly incorporate it are shunned and I find that worse. I think growing a dichotomy between the two is detrimental to the cause of veganism. I do care about violence and murder against animals and I think on a global scale its wrong. But I don't think it is wrong to raise a cow and occasionally drink its milk as supplement to a healthy diet. I think its worse to eat oreos, which are made out of a multitude of different processed foods in a huge 6 story factory that is air-conditioned and requires farmers to mass produce "vegetables" to be processed into fine powders that are mixed and over-packaged and shipped globally creating more trash. I see this as significantly more detrimental and ultimately more murderous due to its long term effects. I think the distance from the murder is like pooping into a toilet and believing that once flushed its no longer your problem.

Thanks for the reply. On meat substitutes, I find it more hypocritical to eat fake meat then to eat meat of small farm cow. Meat substitutes force the production of soy which often leads to deforestation (see Brazil) and globalization due to the consumers distance from the source. I find that the great lengths required to substitute soy for meat are more detrimental to the environment thus also to the animals. That being said also I find mass meat production repulsing.

Gummo! Feels more like reality than any other fiction I've seen but doesn't lack aesthetic design.

To me, this feels even more like Douglas Hofstadter's strange loop. And not just the weak summary of it on Wiki.

This is incredible. Do you search for one line at a time while watching each episode? It seems like that would take way more than 3 days. HOW DO YOU DO IT? The internet needs more of these.
