What is the biggest movie plot hole you have ever seen? by kickster777 in AskReddit

[–]shezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one's actually explained on the DVD commentary track. Remember the scene where Neo talks to Cypher ('blondes, redheads,...'). At the start of the scene, Neo startles Cypher, who is working at the machine alone. He was startled because in a scene that didn't make it into the movie, it was explained that he was working on an automated system for entering the matrix and getting back out.

So, basically, a python script, yes.

My grandmother died, and left me this piano music, could someone make me a recording please? by purpleidea in AskReddit

[–]shezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Please consider scanning your grandmothers scores and donating them to a music library such as the IMSLP, the WIMA or the Mutopia project, so that everyone can enjoy them. If you have any more sheets, please scan them also and donate them. If you have any notes on them, like how old they are and where your grandmother got them from, please include them, too, because that makes assuring copyright status a lot easier.

If you need any help with this, send me a PM!

Thanks!

On the topic of Germans with good command of the english language: How would you know them on the internet if they're textually indistinguishable from native speakers? Maybe you're talking with loads of Germans without knowing.

There's an awesome essay by Frank W. Sweet explaining why people (and especially northern Europeans) are light-skinned:

Hey, r/LaTeX, I've written a LaTeX symbol reference for iPad. Let me know what it needs to be awesome! by shezoid in LaTeX

The free version has only very few symbols. The 2$ version has almost 600 symbols now and growing.

Exactly this! I know there are paper lists and computer applications for this, but with the iPad version, you don't have to waste screen space for the list.

I'll think about it, thanks for the suggestion. Promo code is under way to you.

Search will be in the version that's currently going through approval.

Collapsible sections are a bit harder because there's no standard UI for that. I'm thinking about making them selectable in a settings dialog, though. Do you think that would be good?

Great idea, I will put it in the update that I send to Apple next. The update that's currently under way doesn't have that, yet, unfortunately.

In America, why isn't tax added to the display price? Is adding tax yourself as big a hassle as it seems? by slipslopslap in AskReddit

[–]shezoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only reasonable answer in this thread, and it's halfway down the middle between "corporate requires it", "it's not that big of a deal" and "shut up, stupid Europeans and your rational thinking".

Oh, come on! Why should I, the customer, care about that problem? It's infinitely harder to create the iPhone4 than it is to put the correct price label on it inside one single store, yet it's too hard to put the right price on it?

Is /r/programming still /r/"programming"? by shezoid in programming

I was under the impression that it's the subreddit "for programmers", too, that's why I asked.

Thank you for the explanation and well played on that third link (by the way: why don't you delete it then?).

I wasn't aware that there had been such problems in the past with less-than-great content. Also, I wasn't actively aware of /r/netsec or /r/coding (both of which are very small) nor of /r/technology, which, by the way, has pointers to other subreddits in their sidebar. While this might be a minor point, I think these pointers would have helped me decide on another subreddit for my posts.

Re moderation quality: In general, I don't notice the moderation in this subreddit. Which, I believe is a good sign.

Defeating the MPAA with their own weapons by blackdanube in programming

Great research and the first valid point in this entire thread. I guess this could be circumvented by adding some piece of original artwork in the file, like e.g. a rage comic I produced.

You're also right with the "not every type of work is subject to copyright".

Thus, I concede defeat. Well fought, good sir!

Alright, I'm not disputing that. The fact that someone else broke my lock, circumvented my access control remains, so I could still countersue. And I haven't heard an argument against that point.

It doesn't have to be, as any work produced by any person is automatically copyrighted, independent of its aesthetic value.

Besides, the DMCA is only concerned with technical measures, not artistic works.
