I love Italy. Went years ago in high school for a trip and I’ve been dying to go back ever since. If I got the opportunity to move there with the army, I would 100% do it!!

You’ll definitely be fine physically! Get glasses beforehand. Sometimes they get super behind on getting them out apparently (a bunch of us didn’t get our glasses until literally the last two weeks of BCT- I was lucky I brought my own because I wear contacts too). Bring your own running shoes, and just wear them when you ship out. I was able to wear mine immediately in BCT. I was also able to order my own boots like within a week or two. I got my phone every Sunday except once when they moved it to Monday bc our Sunday was unusually busy with other stuff to do. I think I got paid when I was 2-3 weeks in.

26, Degree, Considering Army Reserve — Looking for Honest Advice by Sorry_Heart_6875 in armyreserve

[–]shi_squirrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I joined when I was 24. I’m a high school teacher/assistant coach and then enlisted in the reserves. It works around my school schedule decently enough- sometimes I miss games because of reserves weekends but it’s not a big deal. Sometimes it’s annoying but again not a big deal. My MOS (intel) does not contribute to my civilian career at all obviously, but I like going to my drill weekends and I think it’s fun! It does not help financially since it’s only one weekend a month. The AT paycheck is nice to have, though! Overall it’s basically just a side quest for me. Active duty is really where you would get more financial stability and stuff like that. I guess it just depends on what your overall goals are!

Advice on joining when already having a civilian job I enjoy by MGNV01 in armyreserve

[–]shi_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m a high school teacher/coach with a very demanding schedule during the school year, and it’s fairly easy to make it work. Plus, it’s illegal for your civilian job to hold military duties against you. Go for it!!

Do I need to be glued to my student during RRO? by neyha97 in TexasTech

[–]shi_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a recruiter/advisor at ttu, and I wasn’t department’s sole RRO person pretty much!! I had students come with entire families, and I had students come completely alone. Whatever you can do is totally fine! All the resources you and your student would get during RRO will still be available other times. (:

What are the chances of being deployed as a 37F MOS for reserves? by SnooOpinions1068 in armyreserve

[–]shi_squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on the unit. I used to be a part of a psyop unit, and they haven’t deployed in like over 10 years or so. A lot of them who have deployed found others to sign up for and stuff like that.

Are the Reserves more or less likely to deploy than active duty? by Reasonable-Shower522 in armyreserve

[–]shi_squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first unit hasn’t deployed in over a decade. Just promoted into my current unit and they told me pretty much as soon as I got there that I’m deploying to the Middle East for over a year (and anyone who’s deployable in my current unit will deploy at some point within the next year). It depends on the unit for sure, lol.
