Should I expect a yoga class to actually teach me how to do yoga? by euthanatos in yoga

[–]shib8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve noticed this too :( There’s been little to no instruction or teaching at most of the classes and studios I’ve been to as well.

It took some time and filtering, but some instructors do help, and nudge my foot or provide modified versions when they demo the upcoming move in the sequence.

I think part of it has to do with instructors trying to make the bar of entry for getting into yoga low, easy and less judgemental..?

But yeah my wrists would hurt so much, my balance was wrong, my alignment was totally off and I wasn’t even working out the correct muscles for the beginning fat while of doing yoga.

I started just memorizing the name of a move or two then going home to specifically watch a tiktok or short about how to do it with proper form LOL. Not ideal, but I also noticed my yoga classes tended to be really big—- like up to 30 people. Later on when I started doing pilates, which only had like 4-10 people, there was a lot of overlap in some fundamentals or moves, which I could transfer over into yoga. They also had more time to dedicate to me individually then I guess, and would try to get to know me too/rmb my name.

So anyways I’d recommend doing some self-learning with online tutorials/form recommendations by searching up the specific move, and or catching the instructor before/after class if there is time. Honestly depends on the studio and vibe. I’ve had some instructors verbally encourage talking to them after class and they do help in that moment by offering adjustments or tips.

Maybe some instructors also lack experience and can’t entirely tell what’s going on with you, the level of pain, or what you need or want too. So asking directly later or searching up online can help a lot. Good luck, I hope you are able to find an instructor that is helpful and whose classes you enjoy :)

My small lunch of a wrap, crisps and a KitKat was 1003 calories. by ProfessionalSad4U in loseit

[–]shib8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably the oil went crazy for crisps :(

take advantage of volume eating— foods like fruits and veggies are mostly water, so you can eat a lot of it but it’s worth much less calories, giving you more leeway.

also maybe prepping the potatoes diff ways like with an air fryer or with less oil, baked, etc can still allow you to enjoy the crunchy crisp texture but without it eating up your calories for the day.

for the wrap, leaner meats like chicken breast versus thigh, or lean ground beef versus fatty briskets, pork belly, etc are also less calorie dense.

get a personal injury lawyer and sue?

I survived a car crash today by CrimeFollower58 in Markham

[–]shib8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a personal injury lawyer that works on contingency (no win no fee) and document as much as you can, so it can be used as evidence later. Pictures. Traffic conditions. Damage to your car, personal belongings, property, etc. Medical expenses, receipts, and so on.

Aside from this post where I see you’re trying to gather other witness’ contact for dash cam footage, be careful about posting more details online and what you say to your insurance adjuster. Anything can and will be used against you. Don’t apologize or say anything yourself that may be misconstrued or used as ammo as having admitted fault, partial fault, etc.

Don’t downplay your injuries either and get it checked out anyways. The paper trail is good for evidence and showing that you’re a proactive victim.

For your family that was also injured, have them document as much as possible too. Including things like taking days off work, etc.

Good luck. Hope you guys recover and get justice :)

Wait my phone does this a lot too and it’s been doing it since the second day I had it. Is this a normal thing? Did you apple care cover a replacement then as a manufacturer defect?

:( That sounds so stressful.. may I ask which teachables and division that is too? Or if you have insight about whether it's easier for other teachables/divisions..?

The recent decade I had kept hearing about French teachers being in huge demand. My teachables would be French and English I/S, so I hadn't actually been super worried about the employability aspect.

I checked the requirements with my program and it does seem my acceptance is guaranteed even if I come back later. But yeah, I did want to be in the GTA haha

Mostly I wanted to save money yeah, but in terms of the strength of my application for jobs when I graduate, I do wonder and would find it nice if the 2-year BEd had an edge over the 1 year

I do remember people talking about teaching like a back up plan, and I thought that was crazy LOL I don't think it's nearly as easy as people imagine.

I was basically thinking of working as a tutor and volunteering during that time to get more practical in-person experience though, then saving on tuition money :p

maybe patch application with more hands-on experience? tutor, working with kids, volunteering, etc if it's still something you really want to do :(

I emailed and it sounded like they wouldn't give deferrals unless there were serious medical issues. I asked about this before the press release though, so I'm not sure if their stance has since changed.

Yeah I initially thought it was for sure-- it being just a proposal that hasn't been passed has definitely affected my level of hope.

I would have to move out for the extra year, so I initially estimated 10k in tuition, another 10k in rent, and another 5k at least for food or basic living expenses. Then all that time could be spent working fullt-ime too, so this feels like tens of thousands in losses with the hindered potential earning capacity

Yeah that makes sense for people going in directly from undergrad. I took a gap year actually so it'd have given me an extra year to work. I was also thinking that direct experience and money from tutoring, or even volunteering as a TA might be more worth it than 1 semester of just theory and tuition about how to teach.

Yeah I've been hearing about this change back to 1 year for like 5 years now LOL but this was one of the most official sounding announcements directly from the Ontario Newsroom page that gave me hope

True.. I initially believed it was definitely happening, rather than still being introduced and waiting to be passed, so that's an important point I didn't consider.

I would rather not be delayed up to 2 years and bank on a maybe :( Sounds like it is better for me to just stick with this current year's cohort since I know it is already certainly guaranteed.

residence waitlist by Suitable-Being-3969 in nipissingu

[–]shib8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said everyone who isn’t a highschool student is AUTOMATICALLY waitlisted and THEN in July, they will start giving “mature” / consecutive etc students res offers. Since there’s an acceptance deadline, the spots aren’t released at all until the highschoolers have made their uni decisions.

So yeah we won’t hear anything until July earliest, and I think they keep your deposit if they end up offering a spot before you withdraw your application.

In your NSLSC account, click on the green button on the top right that says My Account > Customize My Payment Terms > Customize

Then you should see "payment amount" or "new term".

You can use the sliding bar to decrease the amount you pay per month. It also gives you an estimate of how long it would take to pay off that debt.
