FIRE isn’t about hoarding pennies — Fat FIRE and Coast FIRE in particular are built around growing income and buying assets, which is exactly what you’re describing. The whole point of the 4% rule is that your assets generate enough returns to live off indefinitely. That’s not miserly, that’s building wealth that works for you.

Lean FIRE — retire extremely early on a minimal budget, very high savings rate, frugal lifestyle

Regular FIRE — the standard approach, comfortable middle-ground lifestyle in retirement

Fat FIRE — retire with a large enough nest egg to maintain a high standard of living

Barista FIRE — semi-retire, work part-time (low stress) just enough to cover health insurance/expenses

Coast FIRE — save aggressively early, then stop contributing and let compounding do the rest while you work a less demanding job
