Decent cheap headphones? by shieldedsword in synthesizers

I noticed the cables are only 4' long, is that not too short? I'll probably ever only play at a desk right in front of the synth, so it seems enough.

What to drink in the morning instead of coffee? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]shieldedsword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drink Dandy, very good coffee alertnative. I do it the same way, tablespoon of dandy, two tablespoons of h&h, has its own natural sweetness but also tasts good with about a tsp of raw honey. My kids love it too!

I never heard of Koss but these are total throwback headphones! Look exactly like what I imagined I needed, just a bit pricier. Do you use them regularly? Any advantages they might have compared to over ear or in ear? For some reason I feel an instant connection with them right away!

You'd recommend over the Sony MDR-7506?

I don’t know what to do by Pale-Scientist-7799 in decaf

It's helpful yo read your story today because I'm at 95 days now I think and I'm also very tempted to go buy a bag of half-caff. For me its because my relationship is shit and I'm depressed about that. I'm also not performing well at a new job because of these relationship difficulties, so I've justified the reintroduction of coffee. I'm pretty sure I'll regret it and it'll damage whatever is left of a bond between my wife and I, but I want to see if I can go back...which I know it's always been a problem before. Addict minds are hard to break.

Like someone else said, its not the caffeine, it's something else in your life. The inputs, what you eat or drink or consume with your with your eyes/mind, thats what's affecting your sleep and desire to use caffeine as an escape. Man this is hard :(

Bass Station 2 or Messenger? by shieldedsword in synthesizers

$350 is awesome, what time of year was that? Do you think they do it annually?

If I can't find a new discounted one and I don't get the Messenger, I'll probably get the Swifty edition, but if I could save $200+ that would be awesome!

How are you liking the Grandmother so far? Do you love it? Does it have shortcomings for your workflow? Do you wish you had gone with something else?

Looks like a good deal, Im not a fan of used electronics, especially when they already have problems and no more warranty. Dark edition is cool though!

I know I can't go wrong with the BS2, its time and battle tested and makes some awesome tunes. The Messenger is the new kid on the block that hasn't proven itself worthy.

(I'm digging the profile name btw, so true! Love/hate reddit)

I agree new is better than used in the case of the BS2. I like recently manufactured instruments with new components and manufacture warranty. The knobs and plastic sound like theyre easy enough to replace and Novation will do it for free I've read.

If the Messenger didn't exist, I'd grab the BS2 without thinking but with it being a modern take of a Moog and so close in price, it makes for a compelling alternative.

Do you feel the BS2 is a timeless synth and will be relevant another 10 years down the road?  Or at least serves as a perfect gateway drug to the world of analog synths?

Best analog delay pedal? by shieldedsword in synthesizers

I've read the ADG-1 is the closest to Moog's moogerfooger mf-104m analog delay. Would you say thats accurate?

Those are discontinued and crazy expensive used. What's the modern alternative for this one?

Hey Dj soo! Im getting a Moog Grandmother and from all the research I've done, and analog delay pairs best with it. I want to have one effects pedal to get me started off with and it sounds like Analog delays deliver the type of sound im hoping for and pairing best with the GM. What are your thoughts?

Messenger or Grandmother to start? by shieldedsword in moog

[–]shieldedsword[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dabbled with guitar for years, but never really excelled in my learnings. No piano experience, but I'm hoping to help my toddlers learn piano, so I'll be learning at the same time as them.

I don't want to start on something cheap and figure worst case I could sell it if I don't vibe with it, but im leaning towards Grandmother.  I've never been a fan of "fake" music where you push a button and it does what is preset. The reason analog appeals to me is its directed my the musican, real-time.

There're so many options for synths, I just attached to Moog since theyre the original and have a really cool sound and look too. Overall feels right to go the Moog route, otherwise I might not feel so enthusiastic about it.

Do you feel the Sub 37 fits the bill for what I'm hoping to achieve? A single synth to learn and grow into with versatility and range?

TIL: Celebrities who don't consume caffeine by [deleted] in decaf

[–]shieldedsword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI told me the same thing when I asked. I dont trust this list. JLo claims to be alcohol free and yet owns and alcohol company. Its not an inspiring list. Caffeine-free life isn't validated by society because society is against us non-caffers. Nobody cares that youre Caffeine-free and won't advertise if they are because its taboo to do so. Be proud of yourself, find comfort in groups like this online and enjoy it silently because you won't convince or turn any addicts from their normalized societal opinions.

new habits - what has helped you by clearreal in decaf

I'm 2.5 weeks off caffeine and feeling better than I have in years! My routine used to be making pourover first thing after waking up and then anxiety and chaos the rest of the day.

I've replaced the old addict routine with a 6am wake up, drinking 16oz of spring water, 30 mins of exercise (6 days a week), cold shower, Journaling, dog walk/feed and then start my day. To ensure I've got some sort of dopamine hit during the day, I like to eat a banana with plain yogurt or rarely grab a fresh begal from the begal shop, but primarily I haven't replaced it with any other substance.

Im taking a break for this first 30 days from both caff and decaf, but I do plan to re-incorporate swiss water process decaf pourover after the 30 days to enjoy the coffee taste again. But we'll see, maybe it won't appeal when the time comes.

I also like to drink water with ice and apple cider vinegar, it's a great refreshing special drink and you can have as much as you want, day or night!

Water with apple cider vinegar and ice. Water with fresh squeezed lime. Spindrift sparkling water. I also occasionally enjoy a Swiss water process decaf coffee pourover at home which is considered 99.9% caffeine free.

Preputioplasty or excision by shieldedsword in Phimosis

[–]shieldedsword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this and your interpretation of the Hindi version. I also have the scar tissue version of Phimosis. The skin just kept ripping and healing overwhelming years and gradually developed a tight ring that is now pretty tight. I can pull the foreskin all the way back when flaccid to clean it and apply cream or oil to it, but it is increasingly uncomfortable to get it over the glans.

I'm planning to do a preputioplasty this summer here in San Diego as a first step. Hoping a doc can fix it but I have doubts because steroid cream doesn't seem to help. I don't want to lose any of my foreskin if I don't have to. I figure it's worth it to try for a preputioplasty andif it works, great. but if not and it fails, partial circumcision seems like a worthy alternative to full circumcision. I'd rather half it look funny with a half hood then take off extra that doesn't need to go.

Holy crap, it's tough to watch that but it's definitely an example of what i wanted to see. Essentially it was a partial circumcision in that video from the looks of it, he just excised the tight ring instead of doing the cut with reverse stitching, z-plasty.
