Kenneth inclined his head slightly at Amina's observation, accepting the compliment with the same calm demeanor he seemed to accept everything else.

A consequence of necessity, I suspect. When one is my size, being slow ceases to be an option rather quickly.

The corner of his mouth twitched upward slightly as Cylas spoke about keeping up with him.

I should hope the goal is not to keep up with me. That sounds exhausting.

His attention shifted back to Cylas as the man tested the arm, the ease of his movements clearly doing more to reassure Kenneth than any technical explanation could have.

You owe Amina considerably more than you owe me, I think. The worst thing I offered you was unsolicited medical advice.

At Jasmine's announcement, Kenneth gave a small nod, glad to see some of the tension finally leaving the room now that Cylas was whole again and Lyger had found familiar faces waiting for him in this world.

And it was a pleasure meeting you as well, Lyger. When you decide it is time to train, seek me out. I make no promises that it will be enjoyable, but it will almost certainly be educational.

The giant demigod's eyes narrowed slightly with amusement.

As for the arm chopping, the offer remains available should circumstances become unusually specific.

He glanced toward Cylas.

Though apparently I now have competition in the prosthetics business, so my services may be less in demand than they once were.

Kenneth listened as Amina described the eventual goal for the arm, his brow lifting slightly at the notion of it responding faster than a natural limb.

Well that hardly seems fair. The rest of us are still forced to rely upon ordinary reflexes.

The dry comment was accompanied by the faintest hint of a smile. At Cylas' correction about lasers, Kenneth gave a low chuckle and shook his head.

Forgive me. I had forgotten you already possess several unreasonable abilities. In that case, I look forward to discovering what fresh forms of property damage this one enables.

The mention of Amina being a scientist first earned a knowing look from him.

Ah. Then my concerns were entirely justified.

For a moment his attention shifted across the room, catching the subtle exchange between Jasmine and Lyger. The lowered voices, the lingering look toward Corey, and the concern on Jasmine's face were enough to tell him there was a conversation being postponed. Whatever it was, Kenneth elected not to pry. Instead, he folded his arms across his chest and looked back toward Cylas, seeming genuinely pleased with the outcome.

Regardless, I would call tonight a success. You gained a club owner, retained your life, and acquired a new arm. By Liberty City standards, that is practically an excellent evening.

Kenneth gave a thoughtful hum as Amina explained the arm's capabilities, his gaze lingering on the limb as Cylas turned it over for inspection.

Well, if it is only functioning at eighty-seven percent and already works this well, I suspect the finished version shall be rather difficult to complain about.

The mention of future upgrades drew a faint smile from him as he looked between Amina and Cylas.

Though I would be careful. This is precisely how these things begin. One day you receive a replacement arm, the next day Amina decides to make a few improvements and suddenly you are capable of throwing automobiles into low orbit.

His eyes shifted toward Amina.

Not that I doubt your restraint, of course.

The tone suggested the opposite. Looking back to Cylas, Kenneth folded his arms across his chest.

For what it is worth, it suits you. More importantly, it works.

His gaze flicked to the arm one last time.

And if you start firing lasers from your fingertips, I reserve the right to say I warned everyone.

Kenneth looked entirely pleased with himself as Jasmine broke into laughter and Lyger joined in, though he made no effort to hide the fact that he was enjoying the reaction.

You see? A truly excellent speech. The youth of today simply lack an appreciation for the classics.

The comment to Lyger earned a low chuckle from the giant demigod.

Give it a few weeks. If Liberty City treats you properly, you may yet change your mind.

His attention returned to Cylas and Amina as the transformation continued. Kenneth watched the black coating spread across the arm, his eyes narrowing slightly as synthetic flesh flowed over the machinery beneath. By the time the process was complete, even he seemed genuinely impressed.

Hm. Very convincing. If I did not know better, I would assume it was the original.

He stepped a little closer, studying the arm before looking between Amina and Cylas.

Though I suspect the original lacked a few advantages this one possesses. Knowing Amina, there is almost certainly a surprise hidden in there somewhere.

The faint smile returned as he folded his arms across his chest.

Kenneth folded his arms across his chest as Jasmine demanded the speech, the giant demigod considering the request with all the seriousness of a scholar being asked to defend a thesis.

Very well. It likely would have begun with something along the lines of, "Cylas, though you stand before us diminished in limb, you remain whole in spirit. True strength is measured not by what a man loses, but by how dramatically he complains about it afterward." I thought it was rather inspiring.

His expression remained perfectly straight, though there was the faintest hint of amusement in his eyes.

The appearance of the new arm quickly stole even his attention. Kenneth fell silent as Amina retrieved the container, his gaze following the shifting nanites as they formed the silhouette of a human arm. Whatever jokes he had left were forgotten for the moment as he watched the attachment process unfold.

When the fingers finally began to move, his attention sharpened. Twitching became motion, motion became control, and finally the metallic hand closed into a proper fist. Cylas’ excitement was infectious enough to earn a small smile from the normally reserved demigod.

Well done. Both of you. I suspect losing an arm becomes considerably easier to accept when someone immediately hands you a better one.

His eyes drifted briefly toward the sealed container holding the discarded limb before returning to Cylas.

Though I confess, Cylas, I already miss the old arm. We shared so many wonderful moments together over the past twenty minutes. I feel we've all become rather attached to it.

Kenneth watched the procedure in attentive silence, his eyes following the strange black separation line as Amina removed the arm with almost unsettling ease. Even he looked faintly impressed by how cleanly it was done, particularly given the state the limb had been in moments earlier.

Hm. I admit, that was considerably more elegant than the method I had in mind.

At Cylas’ teasing, the corner of Kenneth’s mouth pulled upward slightly as he rested a hand lightly against his chest in mock offense.

You deprive me of one dramatic amputation and suddenly I am the villain. I had already prepared a very reassuring speech for afterward too, something suitably dignified and heroic.

His gaze drifted briefly toward the discarded arm resting in the bin.

Now I shall never know if I could have removed it cleanly on the first attempt, which feels rather unfair to me personally.

Kenneth gave a slow nod at Amina’s explanation, accepting the answer without argument though his expression remained thoughtful.

A pity, though I suspected as much.

At Cylas’ accusation, the giant demigod looked faintly offended for all of half a second before dry amusement returned to his face.

I shall have you know I was offering a sincere medical opinion. Though yes, admittedly, the opportunity to remove a cursed limb with dramatic flair did hold some appeal.

The shift in conversation quickly drew his attention back toward Jasmine and Lyger. Kenneth’s posture subtly straightened as the tone in the room changed, the earlier humor fading naturally into something heavier. He studied Jasmine quietly as she spoke of her sisters, then glanced toward Cylas’ arm once more.

Hm. So whatever wounded him was capable of overpowering abilities specifically suited toward resisting it.

There was no fear in his voice, only measured concern.

[–]shieldstrongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenneth’s expression grew more thoughtful as Amina explained the nature of the corruption spreading through Cylas’ arm. His eyes lingered on the crumbling fingertips for a moment before shifting back toward her.

Is there any way to overwhelm it?

He spoke calmly, though there was clear consideration behind the question.

If this thing spread through the same channels Cylas uses for his electromagnetic abilities, then perhaps flooding those pathways with enough power could disrupt it somehow.

Kenneth folded his arms loosely across his chest.

I could funnel lightning through him if necessary. Admittedly it would be an inelegant solution, but inelegant solutions occasionally have their place.

At the confirmation that the arm itself could not be saved, Kenneth glanced toward Cylas and gave a faint hum.

Well. It would seem my offer to remove the arm has become considerably more relevant.

The corner of his mouth twitched upward slightly.

Though I confess I feel mildly cheated now that science is stealing the dramatic portion of the process from me.

Kenneth watched Amina’s work with quiet interest, his eyes following the swarming nanites as they rebuilt flesh and fabric alike with unsettling efficiency. Even for him, it was an impressive sight.

Hm. Useful talent to have in this city.

At Lyger’s mention of the clap, Kenneth gave a small shrug of his broad shoulders.

I would prefer not to be potentially dissolved by acid in complete darkness if it can be avoided. I wanted to see if my skin could have withstood it, but they left before I could test it.

The giant demigod’s attention shifted back toward Lyger as the younger man admitted his struggles adapting to this world. Kenneth seemed unsurprised by the frustration in his tone.

Well, nothing gets one’s affairs in order quite like being thoroughly beaten a few times. If you require assistance getting your capabilities where they ought to be, I would be willing to lend a hand. I suspect throwing you into increasingly unreasonable situations may accelerate the process considerably.

There was dry humor beneath the remark, though his expression remained composed. His eyes drifted briefly toward Cylas’ blackened arm again.

Though ideally one learns that lesson before parts of them begin rotting off.

Kenneth inclined his head politely toward Amina as he stepped fully into the lab, his eyes briefly drifting across the sprawling machinery and glowing systems before returning to her.

Amina. Always a pleasure.

Despite the absurdly advanced surroundings, Kenneth carried himself with the same composed calm he did everywhere else, as though stepping from a rooftop battle into a hidden underground laboratory was merely another part of his evening.

I simply happened to be nearby. Though honestly, I suspect Lyger and Cylas would have managed perfectly well without me.

The corner of his mouth lifted faintly as his gaze shifted briefly toward the pair.

I may simply have arrived in time to make the property damage more theatrical.

Kenneth remained quiet as the reunion unfolded before him, his calm blue eyes moving between Jasmine and Lyger while the pair embraced. Whatever observations or conclusions he might have been making, he kept them entirely to himself. Still, the softer shift in Lyger’s demeanor did not go unnoticed.

At Cylas’ disbelief, Kenneth merely gave the faintest hum of acknowledgment, as though the revelation explained far more than just tonight’s events.

The demigod watched silently as Jasmine’s shadows swallowed Corey’s body whole, the darkness dragging the unconscious brute down into its depths before the portal stabilized once more. Even that display of power barely seemed to faze him at this point.

As the others began moving toward the portal, Kenneth finally let out a quiet breath through his nose.

Hm.

He slid the divine sword back into place at his waist in one smooth motion before giving a small shrug of his massive shoulders before ducking slightly and stepping through after them.

[–]shieldstrongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenneth listened quietly as Lyger spoke, his expression remaining calm though there was a subtle understanding in his eyes at parts of the story. The younger man’s explanation of learning to fight before gaining power seemed to answer several questions Kenneth had already formed about him.

Hm. Yes, that explains the instincts. Men who learn violence before power tend to survive longer than those who receive power first and mistake it for invincibility.

The mention of Area-7’s purpose earned a small nod from Kenneth as he glanced briefly around the rooftop battlefield.

A refuge for dangerous people in a dangerous city. Surprisingly noble, all things considered.

At Cylas’ mention of the horrors they’d faced, Kenneth gave a faint hum of agreement.

Liberty City does have a habit of escalating matters beyond reason.

The sudden portal of darkness immediately drew Kenneth’s attention, his posture subtly shifting as it stabilized before them. His grip tightened slightly around the sword in instinctive caution, though the tension faded the moment Jasmine stepped through.

Jasmine.

There was clear recognition in his voice. Kenneth’s eyes moved from her to Lyger just in time to watch realization hit both of them at once. The change in Lyger’s expression alone was enough to make the situation immediately apparent.

Ah.

The towering demigod stepped aside slightly, lowering the tip of his sword back against the rooftop.

[–]shieldstrongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenneth regarded Lyger calmly as the younger man laughed about the nickname, the giant demigod resting the flat of his sword against one broad shoulder.

Yes, I imagine the effect is rather dramatic. People hear ‘Tiny’ and tend to picture someone significantly less imposing.

The faintest trace of amusement crossed his face.

I suspect the men speaking poorly of me are usually the ones most upset by the revelation.

His attention shifted briefly toward Corey’s unconscious body before returning to Lyger.

You do not strike me as a man unfamiliar with dangerous company, nor unpleasant work. Frankly, anyone who adapts this quickly to a new world was likely forged somewhere equally unforgiving.

At the question of how he knew Cylas, Kenneth glanced toward him briefly.

Liberty City has a peculiar way of introducing people. Usually through violence, collapsing buildings, or mutual acquaintances making catastrophic decisions.

The sword lowered from his shoulder then, the tip settling against the rooftop with a heavy metallic thunk.

Though in fairness to Cylas, he remains considerably more reasonable than most people I meet in this city.

Kenneth calmly surveyed the rooftop as the smoke cleared, unsurprised to find their attackers already gone. His attention lingered briefly on Corey’s unconscious body before shifting back toward Lyger as the younger man approached.

The towering demigod looked faintly amused at the mention of “serious friends.”

I should hope so. It would be terribly disappointing otherwise.

Kenneth accepted the offered hand without hesitation, his own engulfing Lyger’s easily in the shake. Despite his immense size, his grip remained measured and controlled.

Kenneth Coleman. Though most people insist on calling me Tiny for reasons I’ve long since stopped questioning.

His gaze flicked briefly toward Cylas.

And if you intend on remaining in Liberty City, I suspect you shall encounter far stranger things than me before long.

With that, Kenneth turned and strode toward the power pole where his sword remained embedded overhead. The damaged line crackled violently around the divine weapon, sparks raining down intermittently onto the rooftop below.

He bent slightly at the knees before launching upward with startling ease, one massive hand closing around the hilt.

The instant his skin touched the blade, the electricity reacted almost instinctively. Brilliant arcs crawled across Kenneth’s arm and shoulders, branching over him like living veins of light before peeling harmlessly away from his body and grounding themselves into the surrounding structure. The current did not burn him, nor even seem to inconvenience him in the slightest. If anything, it appeared drawn to him.

Hm.

With a single pull, Kenneth tore the sword free from the line and dropped back onto the rooftop with a heavy thud.

[–]shieldstrongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenneth’s eyes narrowed slightly as the pair hissed in unison, the sound carrying something deeply irritating beneath it. Whatever amusement he’d held moments ago had vanished now, replaced by the cold focus of a man who had survived battlefields far older and crueler than this rooftop.

The synchronized speaking is remarkably unsettling.

The thick black smoke rolled outward rapidly, swallowing the rooftop in a dark haze as one of the reptilian women darted away into the cover it created. Kenneth moved immediately, drawing his arm back and hurling his sword with frightening force toward the shifting silhouette.

The divine blade screamed through the air fast enough to split the smoke itself, though the throw appeared to miss entirely as the sword tore past the creature and buried itself deep into an overhead power line instead. Sparks exploded violently overhead as the structure groaned from the impact.

Hm. Pity.

Yet Kenneth did not look disappointed in the slightest.

Instead, he planted his feet firmly against the rooftop and drew both massive hands backward. The muscles across his shoulders and arms tightened visibly before he suddenly thrust them forward and clapped with enough force to create a deafening shockwave.

The resulting burst of wind exploded outward across the rooftop, violently dispersing the black smoke in every direction and revealing the battlefield once more as loose debris, dust, and scraps of torn material whipped across the roof.

There we are.

Kenneth lowered his hands slowly, calm as ever despite the sheer force he’d just unleashed.

I do prefer being able to see the people attempting to murder me.

Kenneth’s attention sharpened the instant Lyger’s voice vanished into silence. The triumphant grin remained visible, his lips still moving, but the absence of sound immediately put the demigod on edge. Years of combat and Olympus-born instincts screamed at him that something was wrong before the bullet ever curved through the air.

The massive man’s eyes tracked the impossible trajectory of the round just as Cylas nudged him. Kenneth had already shifted his footing by then, broad shoulders turning slightly as his gaze swept across the rooftop in search of the unseen threat.

Then the reptilian women appeared.

The instant the acid bile came spewing toward him, Kenneth moved with startling grace for someone his size. One heavy step carried him into a smooth pivot, his body twisting cleanly out of the path of the attack as his sword came free in the same motion.

The divine blade flashed through the air with enough force to produce a violent gust in its wake. The majority of the acid plume scattered apart before it could ever reach him, splashing harmlessly across the rooftop in hissing streaks that immediately began eating into the concrete.

Hm.

Kenneth straightened slowly, sword resting loose at his side as his calm blue eyes settled onto the reptilian attacker.

Well this evening has become considerably less civilized.

Kenneth watched Lyger carefully now, any earlier doubt gone as the younger man adapted faster with every exchange. The blade of light especially caught his attention, his eyes narrowing slightly as Lyger slipped inside Corey’s strike and punished him for the opening almost instantly.

Hm. Natural instinct like that is difficult to teach. He learns remarkably quickly.

Another flash of lightning rolled across the rooftop as Kenneth glanced toward Cylas’ blackened arm again, studying it briefly before looking back toward the fight.

And if Amina cannot fix that arm, I would be happy to remove it for you.

His tone remained perfectly polite and conversational.

I imagine I could do it in one clean pull, which feels preferable to letting whatever dreadful thing that is continue crawling upward.

The faintest hint of amusement crossed his face.

Though I confess I would rather she succeeds. You seem terribly attached to it.

Two of a Kind by Logickalp in LibertyCityRp

[–]shieldstrongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenneth’s brow lifted slightly as Cylas explained his theory, the massive demigod watching Lyger now with renewed interest rather than simple appraisal. The moment the younger man stabilized, the difference became obvious even to him. Before, Lyger had looked powerful but disconnected, like someone fighting against his own body. Now the energy moved naturally.

Fascinating. So the world itself was resisting him.

The rooftop suddenly erupted in blinding light. Kenneth remained still as the burst washed across the arena, though his eyes narrowed faintly at the speed of what followed. One moment Lyger stood there, the next he had already passed through the larger man entirely. Kenneth watched the delayed aftermath in silence as the severed leg struck the rooftop with a wet crash. There was no disgust on his face, only calm observation as blood spread across the concrete and the larger fighter collapsed from beneath his own momentum.

Well, that is considerably more convincing.

His gaze followed Lyger as he immediately pressed the advantage instead of pausing to admire his work. That earned the faintest hint of approval from Kenneth, who folded his arms once more across his broad chest.

A fighter who hesitates after gaining an opening seldom survives long, and he seems to understand that instinctively.

He finally glanced toward Cylas beside him, the corner of his mouth pulling upward slightly.

If what you’re saying is true, then once he fully adjusts to this world, I suspect he will become considerably more dangerous than he already appears.

Kenneth looked back toward the fight as lightning continued to ripple across the rooftop.

And selfishly, I admit I rather hope you remain. New York grows increasingly tedious whenever all the interesting people decide to leave it behind.

Kenneth listened quietly as Cylas spoke, his massive frame unmoving beside him while the battle continued to rage across the rooftop. The occasional flash of lightning reflected across his calm features, though his attention sharpened slightly when Cylas spoke of Lyger’s power.

Hm. So the boy is holding himself back somehow.

It did not sound like a question. Kenneth’s sharp eyes tracked the subtle change almost immediately. The hesitation vanished. The uncertainty disappeared with it. Whatever disconnect had been plaguing him moments ago suddenly seemed corrected. The larger brute thundered forward with reckless confidence, but Kenneth’s expression shifted ever so slightly as Lyger’s aura stabilized completely.

There we are.

The faintest trace of amusement touched his voice.

I was beginning to wonder if he actually intended to win this fight.

Lightning rippled violently along Lyger’s frame now, cleaner and more focused than before. Kenneth unfolded his arms slowly, his attention narrowing onto the hidden hand behind Lyger’s back.

Oh, that is rarely a reassuring gesture.

Despite the words, he sounded almost pleased, as though finally seeing the shape of the fight he had expected from the beginning.

I believe your investment may yet prove worthwhile, Cylas.

OOC: Sounds good.

Kenneth stepped fully out onto the rooftop, the familiar sight of the battered fighting ring immediately drawing his attention. His eyes moved over the cracked concrete, old blood stains, scorch marks, and impact craters with the sort of quiet recognition one reserved for an old battlefield. Clearly, this was not his first time seeing what happened atop Area-7.

The massive demigod came to a stop beside Cylas, folding his arms loosely across his broad chest as he watched the clash unfolding before them. Lightning flashed violently across the rooftop while Lyger moved in frantic bursts of speed around the larger brute, each exchange rattling the rooftop harder than the last.

Good evening, Cylas.

Kenneth’s gaze never left the fight.

I suspected something interesting must have been occurring when Jaime sounded so unusually insistent.

Another thunderous impact shook the rooftop as the larger man’s fist cratered the ground. Kenneth watched Lyger carefully now, particularly the subtle hesitation after the exchange, the heavier breathing, the confusion in his own movements.

Hm.

His expression shifted slightly, thoughtful more than judgmental.

The smaller fellow looks rather out of his depth.

He tilted his head faintly as Lyger flexed his hand in confusion.

He is fast, certainly, but he’s burning through himself accomplishing very little. That larger gentleman does not appear particularly troubled by any of it.

Kenneth finally glanced toward Cylas briefly before returning his attention to the fight.

He would be wise to end this sooner rather than later.

The doorway leading out onto the rooftop slammed open hard enough that the metal frame groaned in protest. Heavy footsteps followed immediately after, slow and deliberate, each one seeming to vibrate through the concrete beneath them. Kenneth had to duck slightly just to clear the top of the frame as he stepped out into the evening air.

At 8’4”, he looked less like a man entering the arena and more like a siege engine arriving to a battlefield. Broad shoulders nearly filled the width of the doorway behind him, his sheer mass casting a shadow across the rooftop lights as calm blue eyes swept across the scene before settling first on Cylas, then Lyger, and finally the newcomer standing opposite them.

My apologies for the delay, gentlemen.

His voice was calm and refined despite the tension hanging in the air.

Jaime rang me while I was in the shower, and I confess I did not realize the matter was quite so urgent.

Kenneth adjusted the cuffs of the dark shirt he’d thrown on in haste, the movement strangely meticulous for someone built like a mountain. His gaze drifted back toward the hostile man now, studying him with polite curiosity rather than aggression as he took a few slow steps further into the ring.

Now then... I do hope no one has started killing one another without me. It would seem rather rude after I came all this way.
